Jesse Lee Soffer is returning to CHICAGO P.D.—behind the camera.
Soffer, who played Jay Halstead from 2013-2022 on CHICAGO P.D., CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO MED, and LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, will direct episode 12 of season 11. He posted a fun BTS shot on Instastory showcasing a sign with his name on it, as well as “prepping director,” underneath it, with the added text, “Back at it.”

CHICAGO P.D. star Tracy Spiridakos and CPD vet Jesse Lee Soffer hit up the picket line to show their support for the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike on Thursday, August 31 at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank. (The lot also served as the setting for a SUPERNATURAL reunion; Spiridakos appeared in an episode of The CW drama early in her career and worked with SUPERNATURAL creator Eric Kripke on REVOLUTION.)

After spending 237 episodes playing Jay Halstead in the Wolf Entertainment universe (189 episodes on CHICAGO P.D., along with guest spots on CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO MED, and LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT), Jesse Lee Soffer is embarking on a new adventure: directing.
Soffer, who left CHICAGO P.D. earlier this season, stepped behind the camera for the Wednesday, March 22 episode of the NBC drama, “Deadlocked.”

Though CHICAGO P.D.’s Upstead has been progressing mostly off-screen since they coupled up, the duo’s relationship takes center stage in the Wednesday, April 7 hour, “Signs of Violence.”
“We can’t always service this relationship or that relationship in a given episode—you got to just kind of trust, as the viewer that it’s going on behind the scenes,” Jesse Lee Soffer (who plays Halstead) acknowledged in the video below. “I don’t think you’re going to see any characters holding hands in the bullpen, while they’re at work.”
