PERSON OF INTEREST is in an unusual situation as it gears up for its upcoming fifth season: not only is the series being held until midseason, but its episode order count has been reduced from the normal 22/23 installments per year to, reportedly, 13 episodes.

At the show’s Comic-Con panel, POI creator Jonathan Nolan acknowledged they don’t know if the upcoming season will be the end, but “we’re very proud of the show…[and] if it’s the last season, no one is going to be disappointed with the story we tell.”

Before the panel, PERSON OF INTEREST star Jim Caviezel (Reese) shared he’s just focused on making the best show possible.

“We are where we are because every damn episode is so damn good,” he explained in the video below. “We don’t think about out there. We stay right here in the moment, today.”

Check out what else Caviezel, Nolan, and Michael Emerson (Finch) had to say about the shorter season, as well as co-showrunner Greg Plageman’s take on why this could actually be a good thing…

PERSON OF INTEREST took a little bit of a detour from the looming wars with the last episode as Reese set out to solve one of Carter’s unfinished cases (and he nearly died in the process). But as we approach the final two episodes of the season, things are about to explode.

“As usual, we get to the end of the season, [and] we like to break things,” PERSON OF INTEREST co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan laughed.

And with those broken things to come, some familiar faces won’t make it out of the season alive.

It’s been a long couple of weeks since the last episode of PERSON OF INTEREST, but finally, the CBS drama — arguably the best show on network television — returns with a brand new episode tonight.

With the traumatizing “trilogy” behind us (which saw the team, seemingly, lose Shaw, a little over a year after Carter died), Reese and Root are off on a trip in tonight’s hour, “M.I.A.,” to find out what the heck had happened to Shaw.

“I think we have the opportunity here to put a couple of our characters on the road in search of a final answer in terms of what happened to Shaw’s character,” PERSON OF INTEREST executive producer Greg Plageman teased last month.

“It’s definitely a Root and Reese [team-up] episode in 13, and given that Shaw is MIA, they’ll be spending more time together [beyond that],” executive producer Jonathan Nolan added. “We’re looking for more mayhem and more hijinks in the second half of the season.”

And so, TV life goes on. I spoke with Plageman and Nolan about how the team handles the next number that comes up, what the Brotherhood will be up to next, the war between machines, and more…

PERSON OF INTEREST blew things up multiple times in season 3, and now the show is coming back for its fourth season with the team split up: Reese, Finch, Root, and Shaw are off-grid to keep safe from Samaritan, while Fusco has been left behind.

I spoke with PERSON OF INTEREST showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman about the show’s pacing this year, the team losing their sanctuary, the AI’s Cold War, and more. (Though, in an amusing twist of fate, technology did work against us: Nolan lost phone reception a few minutes into the interview, so most of the chat is solely with Plageman.) Keep reading to see what they had to say…

PERSON OF INTEREST has doubled down on exploring its more serialized elements this season, and the stakes have never been higher. (Poor Carter.) But on the bright side, in spite of the mourning many fans are going through, the show has never been better.

I sat down with PERSON OF INTEREST bosses Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman to talk about their desire to make “a great compelling story,” potentially shooting shorter seasons, filming outside of New York, and what’s to come for the second half of the season…

PERSON OF INTEREST: Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman on Season 3, Moving to Tuesdays, and More

September 19, 2013 by
Filed under #1 featured, Person of Interest

PERSON OF INTEREST is making a big move: after spending its first two seasons on Thursdays, the series will make the move to CBS’ very popular Tuesday lineup this year.

And it’s not like the people behind the series are taking this move for granted: PERSON OF INTEREST creator Jonathan Nolan shared that they have very big things planned for fans.

“We came into this season knowing two big pieces of where we were going,” Nolan shared. “It’s going to be an exciting, exciting season. We got some big questions, and hopefully, some big surprises.”

To see what else I could dig up about POI’s third season, I spoke with Nolan and executive producer Greg Plageman about the show predicting this summer’s real-life government controversies, adding two more series regulars to the roster, and more…
