PERSON OF INTEREST: Sarah Shahi and Greg Plageman Preview Shaw’s Season 5 Return

PERSON OF INTEREST has officially pinned down the return of Sarah Shahi’s Shaw.

“Sarah Shahi should be back by episode 5,” PERSON OF INTEREST co-showrunner Greg Plageman shared. “She’s a trooper man, she’s doing a lot. But she’s ready to go, she says I want to be back, and we’re very excited to have her.”

On the show, Shaw went MIA after she sacrificed herself to save Team Machine. Initially, she was presumed dead, but viewers have seen brief glimpses of Shaw — clearly not right — in the months since. (Shaw’s temporary exit was crafted to accommodate Shahi’s real-life pregnancy.)

And though PERSON OF INTEREST isn’t on CBS’ fall schedule, the airdate limbo could serve to bring back Shahi earlier than planned.

It’s been a long couple of weeks since the last episode of PERSON OF INTEREST, but finally, the CBS drama — arguably the best show on network television — returns with a brand new episode tonight.

With the traumatizing “trilogy” behind us (which saw the team, seemingly, lose Shaw, a little over a year after Carter died), Reese and Root are off on a trip in tonight’s hour, “M.I.A.,” to find out what the heck had happened to Shaw.

“I think we have the opportunity here to put a couple of our characters on the road in search of a final answer in terms of what happened to Shaw’s character,” PERSON OF INTEREST executive producer Greg Plageman teased last month.

“It’s definitely a Root and Reese [team-up] episode in 13, and given that Shaw is MIA, they’ll be spending more time together [beyond that],” executive producer Jonathan Nolan added. “We’re looking for more mayhem and more hijinks in the second half of the season.”

And so, TV life goes on. I spoke with Plageman and Nolan about how the team handles the next number that comes up, what the Brotherhood will be up to next, the war between machines, and more…

PERSON OF INTEREST’s Root and Reese are on a mission to find Shaw, and CBS’ tease for the next episode, “M.I.A.” it’s teased that their journey “takes them to a small town in upstate New York where it becomes apparent that not everything is as idyllic as it seems.”

PERSON OF INTEREST’s next episode, “If-Then-Else,” is a big one. In fact, when I spoke with POI star Amy Acker (Root), she gushed over the hour, saying, “It’s so different. It’s really different than any TV episode I’ve ever seen, and definitely different than a PERSON OF INTEREST episode. It was really fun, and really hard to shoot, but from what I’ve heard, people have said it’s their favorite episode of what we’ve done. So I’m really excited to see it.”

And based on the photos from “If-Then-Else,” it’s going to be really action-packed. Check them out now!

The PERSON OF INTEREST season premiere is less than a week away, and with the team needing to split up to stay alive at the end of season 3, the stakes are high when the show returns. But, thankfully, the hour is also legitimately fun as everyone attempts to find their footing in their new world.

I had the chance to watch “Panopticon,” and while I don’t want to spoil too much, I do have a few teases about what goes down…
