Team GMMR’s TV on DVD Wishlist

December 16, 2008 by

With the holidays just around the corner most of the presents have been bought and wrapped. But if you are looking for the perfect gift for the TV lover in your life, then perhaps giving the gift of TV would bring just the right amount of holiday cheer.

To help you find the perfect gift this holiday season, Team GMMR is sharing with you their TV on DVD wish lists. Because nothing says Christmas like hours and hours (and hours and hours) on fantastic television.

What’s on YOUR TV on DVD wish list this year?

  1. Friday Night Lights (Season One)
I went with FNL for number one because to me it was a perfect season of television – probably the most perfect season ever. The acting, writing, directing, casting – it was all top notch. I have also lent my copy of season one to many people who have subsequently become die hard fans of the show. If you haven’t watched, you are seriously depriving yourself!
  2. Dawson’s Creek (Season Four)
  3. Arrested Development (Season Two)
  4. Freaks and Geeks (The Complete Series)
  5. Veronica Mars (Season One)

  1. Chuck
I recap this show and it’s just sad that I don’t own it (yet!), and besides, you know it has some mean extras on it.
  2. The Office (Season Two)
  3. Flight of the Conchords (Season One)
  4. Freaks and Geeks (Complete Series)
  5. My So-Called Life (Complete Series)

  1. Arrested Development (Season 2)
  2. The characters were so crisp then, the show totally hit its stride, and the circular humor is just devastating. Love it.
  3. The Office (Season 1)
  4. Freaks and Geeks (Entire Series)
  5. Sports Night (Entire Series)
  6. Bones (Season 2)

  1. Battlestar Galactica (Season 4.0)
I’ve waited as long as I can wait for season 4.5 to start and still have a month to go. And I’m DYING for some extras.
  2. The Wire
  3. The Shield
  4. Lost
  5. Mad Men

  1. Undeclared (The Complete Series)
I still haven’t recovered from this show being taken off the air, I loved it!! Judd Apatow’s Undeclared was an absolute joy of a TV series. I never saw “Freaks and Geeks” I know, I know the horror, so this show introduced Jay Baruchel, Seth Rogan, Jason Segal to me and now they are some of favorite male actors right now. This brilliant show may have not been “good enough” for the Fox network, but I hope it finds its way to my DVD player.
  2. 30 Rock (Season 2)
  3. 30 Rock (Season 1)
  4. Flight of the Concords (Season 1)
  5. Arrested Development (Season 3)

  1. Wonderfalls (Complete Series)
  2. Mad Men (Season 1)
  3. Dead Like Me (Complete Series)
  4. Californication (Season 1)
  5. Scrubs  (Season 1-7)

  1. Sports Night (The Complete Series)
As a West Winger, I remember watching this Sorkin classic before The West Wing started, but after it was too late to save the show. Now, with a 10 year Anniversary edition, I feel like I should rewatch these and complete my obsession.
  2. Mad Men (Season 1)
  3. Battlestar Galactica (Season 4)
  4. Studio 60 (The Complete Series)
  5. Arrested Development (The Complete Series)

  1. Freaks & Geeks (The Complete Series)
Though I wasn’t an original watcher and jumped on the bandwagon kind of late, I absolutely adore this show. I have watched the entire series thanks to Netflix twice in the last year. The cast is awesome and the soundtrack is even better.
  2. Arrested Development (The Complete Series)
  3. Veronica Mars (The Complete Series)
  4. Gilmore Girls (Season 7 – Though my least favorite season, it’s the only one I need to complete the show in my collection but c’mon, Lorelai would NEVER marry Christopher if ASP was still there)
  5. Roswell (Season 1)

  1. Sports Night
I failed to catch it the first time around but with the demise of Dirty Sexy Money I’m going to need to get my Peter Krause fix elsewhere.
  2. Arrested Development
  3. Mad Men
  4. My So Called Life
  5. 21 Jump Street

  1. Six Feet Under (Complete Series)
I want this due to the high regard fans have for this show. I hear nothing but praise and acclaim and missed out due to not having any premium cable channels. I also love the packaging of the set.
  2. Psych (Season 1)
    Chuck (Season 1)
  3. Friday Night Lights (Season 2)
  4. Everwood (Season 2)

  1. The Wire (Complete Series)
This show has been recommended to me for years by friends and popular columnists. There is no time like the holidays to enjoy murder, corruption, and street justice!
  2. The Greatest American Hero (Complete Collection with Cape)
  3. Murder One (Season One)
  4. Fraggle Rock (Complete Series)
  5. Weeds (Season One)

  1. Smallville (Season 5)
I love the red kryptonite storyline and the introduction of the Green Arrow, Lex and Lana’s quick marriage and the overall change from high school to the real world (so to speak!).
  2. Californication (Season 1)
  3. Veronica Mars (Season1)
  4. Everwood (Season2)
  5. Once & Again (Season 1)

And finally, my picks.  Now I must confess that I personally have enough TV on DVD to keep me going well into my old age, but a few more wouldn’t hurt, right?  Thanks to a Black Friday Amazon.com deal, I just picked up what was previously my #1 TV on DVD choice – the complete series of “The West Wing” – so here’s the shows that are currently rounding out my TV on DVD wish list.

  1. Dawson’s Creek (The Complete Series)
Believe it or not, I don’t own the complete series on DVD.  I’m going to have to take a roadtrip to Capeside soon.
  2. Friday Night Lights (Season 2)
  3. Sports Night (The Complete Series)
  4. Six Feet Under (The Complete Series)
  5. Battlestar Galactica (The Complete Series…thus far)

So you’ve seen our wish list, now what about yours? Tell us YOUR what TV on DVD you’d like to see under the tree or around the menorah this holiday season.

My Top 5: I’m a bit addicted to TV on DVD, but there are still some I need.

    1. Lost (Season 4): Gotta complete the collection
    2. The Office (Seasons 1&2): I need them to complete my collection!
    3. Veronica Mars (The Complete Series): Thanks to Netflix, I’ve seen it all, but who doesn’t want to visit Neptune every once in a while.
    4. West Wing (The Complete Series): I have a friend that I routinely borrow these from, but I need me some Josh Lyman.
    5. Mad Men (Season 1): Love it!
Roswell (The Complete Series): Just re-watched Season 1 on Hulu and am re-hooked.

Kath, Amazon often has buy one, get one half off deals for old TV series with lower prices. That’s how I scored my Dawson’s Creek collection.

  2. Courtney on December 16th, 2008 1:24 pm

Kudos to all the Freaks and Geeks shoutouts!

    Here’s mine:

    Eli Stone Season 1
    The Office Season 4
    Undeclared Complete Series

Anything else would probably mean I’d be starting to collect an entirely new show, though I do want Wildfire Season 3 when it comes out in March!

  3. mcsaint on December 16th, 2008 1:25 pm

    1. Pushing Daisies (Season 1) – The only show I will watch multiple times on Tivo before finally, and painfully deleting.

    2. Freaks and Geeks (Complete Series)

    3. Veronica Mars (Season 1) – Best season by far.

    4. Spaced (Complete Series)

    5. Closer (Season 1)

  4. Britton on December 16th, 2008 1:31 pm

There are so many choices! For starters:

    1. Pushing Daisies, Season 1 (It’s absolutely shameful that I don’t own it yet, but I hope that changes…)

    2. Bones, Seasons 1 & 2

    3. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Season 3

    4. Chuck, Season 1

    5. The Big Bang Theory, Season 1

    6. Wonderfalls, The Complete Series

Hope y’all have a great Christmas!

  5. Emily on December 16th, 2008 2:16 pm

    Bones – Season One
    Pushing Daisies
    House – Season 5 (I think)
    Monk – Season 6
    Psych – Season 2.

And… whatever isn’t under the tree will probably be bought with my own money.

  6. Jamer aka Jamie on December 16th, 2008 2:25 pm

There were so many that could have been added to this list, but I asked everyone to keep it to 5. But now that we are in the comments, here are a few others that should have been on that list:

The Wire – The Complete Series
    Firefly
    Buffy
    Freaks and Geeks
    Growing Pains
    Felicity
…and the list goes on and on.

  8. Chelsea on December 16th, 2008 2:32 pm

I had asked for 30 Rock: Seasons One and Two and Bones: Season One, and already got both, so score!

    But I still want:
    Sports Night: The Complete Series
Six Feet Under: Seasons Three, Four, and Five
    Alias: The Complete Series
    Bones: Season Two

  9. Amrie on December 16th, 2008 2:33 pm

I am ridiculously addicted to TV on DVD. I have a list of about 40 that I need, but my top 5 for this Christmas is:

    1. Lost Season 4
    2. Grey’s Season 4 (to complete the collection)
    3. House Season 4
    4. Bones Season 3
    5. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 3

But seriously, my wish list has another 45 or so on it!

  10. Rae on December 16th, 2008 2:48 pm

Team GMMR… I’m totally blaming you when I win the eBay item I just bid on all as a result of having read these lists and going to Amazon to see what’s on mine.

I actually have a lot of the shows I want right now but I’d be happy for more…

    1. Alias, Complete Collection
    2. Lost, S4
    3. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, S3
    4. Fastlane
    5. Avatar: The Last Airbender Books 1-3 (this is a cheat as they don’t currently have a “complete collection” of these yet but they don’t have that of Dawson’s either and Kath list it so what’s good for the goose…)

Bonus: Damanges S1 and Popular S1&2

  11. Rae on December 16th, 2008 2:48 pm

DAMAGES! (I spelled it wrong that time too. D’oh!)

  12. Billiam on December 16th, 2008 2:49 pm

Ones I love but don’t own:
Freaks and Geeks, Firefly, Veronica Mars

I’m slightly behind on fav shows of mine:
    Scrubs 6-7, Office 4, 30 Rock 2

Shows I really need to actually watch:
The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Dexter, Mad Men

  13. anne on December 16th, 2008 3:31 pm

    1. BSG: the complete series – I really *need* to own this.
    2. The Wire: the complete series
    3. Mad Men: season 1
    4. Sportsnight: the complete series
    5. Arrested Development: the complete series

  14. bubblewrap on December 16th, 2008 3:48 pm

I already own so many but…

    1. Bones Season 3 (I actually know I’m getting this one lol)
    2. American Dreams Season 1
    3. The rest of Cheers (I only have the 1st season)
    4. Robin Hood Season 2

  15. Phyllis Vance on December 16th, 2008 4:05 pm

I already own too much tv on dvd (all of The Office, Chuck, Flight of the Conchords, Firefly, and I just bought Arrested Development today because of the deal…) but, if people wanted to buy me more, I wouldn’t complain.

    1. Thirty Rock
    2. Battlestar Galactica
    3. Coupling (BBC)
    4. Alias
    5. Extras

  16. Nicole on December 16th, 2008 4:34 pm

Rae – what did you bid on?? You have to share with the class…lol. Also, good call on Popular!!! I loved that show and need to own it on dvd.

Also, if my list were longer it would definitely include some Gilmore Girls, Flight of the Conchords, The Office, Chuck and Pushing Daisies. Also, I would have to include some retro stuff…Golden Girls, Who’s The Boss, Roseanne (all but the last season) and for sure Designing Women…..I was only a kid when it was on but I loved it and it’s still funny as hell and NOT AVAILABLE ON DVD….what’s up with that??

  17. Chelsea on December 16th, 2008 5:47 pm

A head’s up to anyone looking for Arrested Development: all three seasons are about $29 at Amazon, but the deal is just for today.

  18. Jen (HIMYM) on December 16th, 2008 5:56 pm

I loved Popular too! And I got to meet Josh Ford a long time back. I’ve got his signed pic somewhere.

There are so many that I already own and since this was a wish list, I couldn’t praise Freaks & Geeks since I own the yearbook set.

Kath, any time you need a Dawson fix, let me know. I have all of them, including the separate series finale. Though, any P/J episodes are probably a bit more worn out than the rest 🙂

  19. Hilary on December 16th, 2008 8:02 pm

    1. Chuck (Season 1)
    2. 30 Rock (Season 2)
    3. Gilmore Girl (Season 1-3, 6-7)
    4. Robin Hood (Seasons 1 & 2)
    5. Arrested Development (Complete Series)

I asked for the second season of Psych, so I think I’m getting that. But I still have a few more I want.

  20. Kimber on December 16th, 2008 10:49 pm

Oh, nothing says “I love you” or “I value your friendship” more than a wonderful TV on DVD collection … to me, at least!

This year I really, really, really want to see these TV on DVD collections under my tree: The L Word (S2 – S5), Friends (S1 – because it’s so classic!), Dawson’s Creek (S1- S4), and Angel (S3 – S5, since I own the first two but haven’t yet bought the rest). If I get at least one of those lovelies my Christmas will be complete.

  21. Stapler on December 17th, 2008 12:02 am

I’ve been wanting the I LOVE LUCY complete series. I watch it every weekend on TVLand, but the full DVD set has been $189.99 on Amazon – too rich for my blood. But I just noticed that Amazon dropped the price to $99.99! That I can handle. Check it out if I LOVE LUCY is on your wish list!

  22. Jessica on December 17th, 2008 12:47 am

I can’t believe that many people want Sports Night on DVD. I actually own the complete series and it is great. I have watched a ton. I also own My-So Called Life, probably the best show ever (behind The Office). I guess this proves I am reading the right site ;). So, Top 5…

    1. The Office Season 4 ( It is kind of a sin that I don’t own this yet. I have been laid off for the last couple of months so that is why I didn’t let myself buy it, but cross your fingers I will get it for Christmas)
    2. Six Feet Under (The Complete Series) Probably, my third favorite show ever.
    3. Gilmore Girls (Season 1,4, and 5)
    4. Pushing Daisies (Season 1)
    5. Dawson’s Creek (Probably the 1st and 2nd season)

This was kinda fun, no one I know actually loves TV as much as I do. It is nice to come somewhere where I feel normal ;).

  23. Jules on December 17th, 2008 1:22 am

Fun! I have to say, all those that want Six Feet Under (Complete Series), it’s amazing!! I have it (got it for the holidays last year) and have enjoyed every bit watching it with my best friend who’s never seen it and she loves it! 😉 Anyway, my list.

    1. The West Wing (Complete Series). Kath I’m so jealous you have that complete series! I own season one and I think I watch it at least once a month….
    2. Pushing Daisies (Season 1)
    3. Veronica Mars (Complete Series)
    4. Sports Night (Complete Series). Loved this show. I still miss it sometimes…
    5. 30 Rock (Season 1)

  24. Jules on December 17th, 2008 1:25 am

OK I know I just put up my five, but I realized I forgot what I really really wanted this year that’s a TV on DVD (besides TWW) and it’s The X-Files complete series. Despite the crappy last season, I think just being able to see David in his good days would make me happy. 😉

  25. SB on December 17th, 2008 10:11 am

I forgot to add Supernatural! OMG, love it.

  26. Patty on December 17th, 2008 11:17 am

I already own so much! But here is my list in no particular order:

    1. QAF S5
    2. Freaks & Geeks (whole thing)
    3. Who said Popular? I want that!
    4. La Femme Nikita S2-5

I would love to have the X-files on DVD but don’t see that happening in the near future. I also want all of Angel but that’s low on the list too.

  27. Philiana Ng on December 17th, 2008 12:58 pm

Forgot “Psych.” How could I forget the fantastic Shawn and Gus!!

  28. grumpyoldman on December 17th, 2008 3:35 pm

“My Three Sons, Season 1″….which the cheap you-know-whats have divided into two releases.
