THE OFFICE Recap: Fun Run

September 27, 2007 by

Jim & Pam

WOW! Just wow…there are no words for everything I’m feeling right now. Do you know that we live in a world where Jim Halpert & Pam Beesly are dating…and are happy? I can’t stop smiling (and neither can they). How great was it to see our OFFICE friends tonight. Things just see right with the world. And the best part? There’s another new episode next Thursday too!

So I don’t think there’s much of a need to recap tonight’s episode, because come on…I know you all watched it. And I’d like to say that I was able to jot down every single important moment but for the first time in forever I (a) watched the show with other people and (b) watch the show only once (although we did have to TiVo back a few times to rewatch some swoonworthy scenes and to hear some lines that we laughed right over.)

Because it’s reeeeaaaaally late, I’m going to be completely self indulgent and talk about some of my favorite parts of tonight’s episode. Then you can remind me of all the parts I forgot to mention. I can’t wait to get home to watch this episode a few more times. Be warned, the following has no rhyme or reason to it (did I mention it’s late?). Oh and before we get started please know that I am fully aware that The Office is NOT only about Jim & Pam, but you’ve gotta give me a little room here to live in the moment, deal?

Jan & Michael are living together and Jan has seemed to really embrace her new role as house-girlfriend. No sign of the apocolypse with those two but then again it’s only the first episode.

Angela & Dwight have some issues. Well I guess I should say that they have more issues because they’ve always had issues. I was a little thrown by Dwight and Angela tonight. Angela seemed really different. Where was the judgemental gal that we came to love? She’s been replaced by a hot blonde with cute bangs who wears sheer shirts to work and asks Pam for relationship advice. Who is this woman and where is the real Angela Martin? And Dwight? Did he suffer from another concussion tonight? I don’t know if Greg Daniels and crew are taking Dwight in a new direction this season but I thought he was a bit darker than he has been in the past. Maybe it was just me but Dwangela seemed a bit odd tonight. And did they break up? Say it ain’t so.

TOBY FLENDERSON ROCKS MY WORLD…’nuff said.

Cheers to the writing staff for giving Kate Flannery some really great scenes and not cutting them. I’m of the camp that loves when the whole office is utilized so it was great to see Meredith have a upfront role that didn’t involved her flashing the ta-tas or boozing.

I’m pretty sure that whatever teeny, tiny affection I once had for Ryan Howard will be gone…soon. I feel a strong sense of loathing coming on. Maybe it’s just the beard (probably not).

Jim and Pam kissing in car

Um, have I mentioned that Jim & Pam are dating? And kissing in cars? And holding hands? I can’t…I just can’t!! There was a lot of squeeing heard ’round the world tonight. Can we PLEASE talk about Jim Halpert’s face when Pam burst out to the cameras that they were dating and they are happy. I didn’t think it was possible to love John Krasinski more than I already did, but let me tell you – it’s possible. My affection for that boy reached new heights with that face. For the love of Creed Bratton just let these two be happy!

The boys of Dunder Mifflin showed some skin tonight. If this is going to be a new trend I just want to say thanks!

Ok, so here’s where you are going to garbage at me. If I’m being completely honest, the episode felt entirely too long. The girls and I kept noticing scenes that would never have made the cut had it been a half hour show. You know I hero worship Steve Carell but with the cast as large as that of The Office I don’t think there was a need for some many Michael-intensive scenes. There were some sections of the show that really dragged a bit and seemed almost gratuitous. I’m not complaining really, just pointing out something that I noticed.

Sorry this is such a lame blog but I’m literally falling asleep on my computer. Never a good sign. But before I sign off and leave YOU to tell me YOUR favorite moments of last night’s premiere, maybe I leave you with the best quote of the night… “I’m not superstitious, but I’m a little stitious”. Fabulous!! Doesn’t that just need to be on a t-shirt? Lucky for you it is (funny how that works).

The Office t-shirt, I’m not superstitious, but I’m a little stitious

I had one of those really great nights. Good dinner, with good people and lots and lots of laughter, and that was before the show even started. So to K, K & J – thanks for a fantastic evening and thanks for making a Boston girl feel at home in Hollywood. There’s no one I would rather watch The Office with…well unless John Krasinski invites me over, then I’d ditch you broads in a second.

Oh and I have mentioned that I’m happy that Jim & Pam are together?

  7. Kim on September 27th, 2007 10:05 pm

HA! I knew it! 😉 I just knew that’s how jim and pam were gonna play it….SO AWESOME! I love this show so freakin much it’s insane.

  8. Jake R. on September 27th, 2007 10:08 pm

It was ok. I thought the pacing of the episode was medicore, and Angela’s storyline was sort of lame (although I thought Angela the actress did brilliantly with the material). The PB&J stuff was sweet, and certainly the most fulfilling part as a fan. By the way, even though I thought it was just ok, it was still the best/my favorite thing to watch on TV all week!

  9. Emily on September 27th, 2007 10:09 pm

That look Jim gave Pam when they finally admitted they are dating…totally swoon-worthy!

Other high points: Ryan channeling Jan in that first phone call with Michael, Jim and Pam’s new nickname PB&J, and “dangling participle.”

    Absolutely Angela’s best episode.

  10. King on September 27th, 2007 10:10 pm

I absolutely loved it. I laughed out loud the whole time. JAM was so awesome, too.

  11. Kristi on September 27th, 2007 10:12 pm

Oh. My. God. Best episode EVER! I don’t know if I’m biased or what but my God, it was amazing!! Every single second of it!! The hand holding, the kiss, the adorableness!! Ahh!!! I can’t make words …

  12. Laura on September 27th, 2007 10:18 pm

So, let’s give it up for PB & J!! Such an amazing episode- Michael calling Toby Satan, and then just being “stitious” not “superstitious,” and Andy’s unfortunate nipple crisis 🙂 I loved Kevin at the beginning with his “Are you kidding me??”- and by far the best moment was the look Jim and Pam shared after they admitted they were dating. This just proves what we’ve known along- Jim and Pam together is even better than the “will they won’t they.” Thanks, The Office, for proving all those “Moonlighting” curse people wrong- brilliant!!

  13. sabrina on September 27th, 2007 10:22 pm

    what happened to karen?

  14. mg714 on September 27th, 2007 10:24 pm

all i can say is absolutely a wonderful start to the fourth season! I can’t stop smiling! Probably will have more to say after I regain my composure from the excitement. 🙂

  15. Jen on September 27th, 2007 10:38 pm

    “we’re dating, and it’s great.”

PB & J= Love for the next 8 months + ever.

Oh, no, Dwangela. I am seriously worried.

Can’t wait to see more from Jan, love it.

    Oh Karen, where art thou???

  16. sarah on September 27th, 2007 10:48 pm

    Yay Jim and Pam!
    But my OTP dwangela…
    NO!
In a way, it’s a good thing Dwight did that for Angela so Sprinkles would be out of her misery.
But goodness, did he take his jerk pills or what?

Yeah, comfort Pam when she cries.
    but not your own girlfriend.

But whatever, I can be distracted with Kevin’s awesome-ness for the time being

  17. Steve on September 27th, 2007 11:01 pm

    Completely wonderful in every way.
    Man. They did that right.

Need some time to reformulate an opinion, but this one is definitely in the top 5 episodes yet.

  18. Jo on September 27th, 2007 11:01 pm

ooooh they were soo cute. points for hand holding and touching her face to kiss her!!

oh i’ll be sad if Dwight and Angela break up though.

  19. Carly F on September 27th, 2007 11:40 pm

Loved loved loved LOVED!!! Support the Rabid, people, come on!! GMMR, I think that calls for a t-shirt…

  20. JennyL on September 27th, 2007 11:43 pm

I LOVED it. I was laughing until I was crying, shocked at some points (like when he hit Meredith!), and gaga over JAM. How perfect is Jim Halpert?!!! My sister didn’t like the episode that much – she felt it was trying too hard to be funny. I loved it though. Every episode should be an hour!! 🙂 🙂

  21. Pate on September 28th, 2007 12:13 am

10 out of 10. Loved it. Busted out laughing when Meredith hit the windshield. The handholding was adorable. Tons of funny!

  22. ad2121 on September 28th, 2007 1:19 am

ehhh… Kind of wished they would have ended it last season… I found the Jam bits a bit blah and unrealistic… Kevin, Oscar, Creed and Kelly stole the show

  23. Lauren on September 28th, 2007 5:06 am

    amazing…”we’re dating”

    GUYS!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE office writers—don’t ever take this away from us EVER!!!!!!!!!

  24. Karen on September 28th, 2007 5:45 am

LOVED IT ALL !!!!!! Definately a different feel from last season. Of course I loved the PB&J stuff but I gotta say I was loving Kevin and Creed- I laughed out loud for an hour!!!!

  25. Lisa on September 28th, 2007 6:00 am

Way better than last season’s opener!!!! Haha! I loved everything about this episode, yay for Jim and Pam! I am so happy! I watched the part where she picks him up like 15 times during the commerical break! Haha! I love them. I loved Toby at the end of the run. I loved when he asked Kelly where they were and she said I dunno 5K from the Office, and Toby’s response: He couldn’t make it a circle?

I loved Angela, but she did seem weird. I dunno everything was perfect. =)

  26. BrokenBrain on September 28th, 2007 6:15 am

Loved it…great stuff from the supporting cast. I loved the sexing up of the cast because it seems like a jab at Grey’s…maybe that is just me. But do agree that the walk part was a little slow and found myself wondering “Why does either Jim or Pam have a wallet with them?”

  27. Jen on September 28th, 2007 6:15 am

These screenshots have completed me. Last night completed me. PB & J!!

Where do I find those screenshots over at MTT? I can’t seem to find them.

And Toby won the race. 🙂

  28. sabra_girl on September 28th, 2007 7:07 am

Nooooooooooo! I can’t download the episode ‘from my location’ (ie the UK). What am I going to do? No one over here shows The Office and I’ve been waiting so long for this – especially since I’m a hardcore Jam-mer. This is a disaster!

  29. JuliaGulia on September 28th, 2007 7:57 am

Kath, did I ever mention you are a god? (& no, not one with the body of a porcupine or walrus) Right after the episode I thought to myself “I NEED TO READ GMMR.” & albeit it was a little late, & however much you think it stinks, this post completed my life.

THANK YOU. That’s all I can say right now. :]

  30. robin hood on September 28th, 2007 7:59 am

pssst, sabra_girl: If you go to fanpop (dot) com and search for the office, there might be a happy video surprise waiting for you;)

As for the episode- best. ever. And I for one loved all the scenes that usually wouldn’t have made the cut, it allowed the plot to develop at a much more relaxed pace, where you really weren’t sure what was going to happen (I looked up and saw that it was halfway over, and the fun run was yet to be seen!). The more Office the better, I say!

  31. AmyK on September 28th, 2007 8:17 am

So good to have our friends back… and Jim and Pam on speaking (and kissing) terms.

When do you think they’ll address where Karen went?? Also, I wish they would have made some mention of Jim moving back to his old desk. I was kind of surprised to tune in and see him sitting there. I hate that we missed “two months” of Jim and Pam reconnecting.

  32. Melody on September 28th, 2007 8:34 am

My heart still does a dance and then drops all the way down to my stomach every time I think about Jim grabbing Pam’s hand. That was…amazing.

  35. samanthemofthesun on September 28th, 2007 9:10 am

Dawesome. Totally. Critically, I agree that it was a bit slow moving for an office ep, but I give it a 95 out of 100. And what about Pam’s new look, for heaven sake! She looks so beautiful…They both do. Being in love just does that for people!

And I loved Stanley, Creed and Oscar going out for beer….

  36. Ellen on September 28th, 2007 9:32 am

I loved the episode – and I am glad that they are giving a nod to the documentary format (like the *adorable* scene in the conference room with Jim and Pam, and that freakin’ hilarious scene in Meredith’s hospital room with Dwight and the doctor.)

Kevin just cracks me up. PB & J is just brilliant.

I melted into a puddle with the Jim/Pam cuteness – can we clone Jim Halpert?

  37. jDub on September 28th, 2007 9:34 am

I agree that there was too much Michael (all that stuff about “the head of this and the body of that” and his dehydrated monologue) but he did have the best line of the night. I paused for 5 minutes to laugh about “little stitious.” Come ON!!!!! When they showed the kiss, I said, out loud despite being alone in the room, “Is that IT?!?!?!” But is wasn’t, and Jim’s face when Pam admitted they were dating was worth the wait. Still not as good as her face at the end of “The Job,” but outstanding. The hand-holding, the estate sale, I am so happy. The Office is back.

  38. pb&j on September 28th, 2007 9:40 am

Ok, loved them going out for beer, but Oscar was having wine! Loved that attention to detail! I’m so excited Andy was back, everything he does is hilarious. Loved this episode, want them all to be an hour, they could have cut the drawn out monkey-faced-porcupine-body-monster bit, but that’s it!

  39. Ducky on September 28th, 2007 9:52 am

What about Dwight’s sideburns? He’s frakkin’ lost his mind. Go Angela for staying mad.

And I don’t want hate mail here folks, but while it was cute to see Jim and Pam together, it in no way made me squee with giddy delight. I’m in the camp that thinks destined couples should never really get together and I’m still a firm believer that the way The Office (UK) handled it was the best.

Tomatoes should be reserved for actual physical interactions not internet hatred.

    Yours, Ducky

  40. Erin on September 28th, 2007 10:06 am

I was very disappointed with last nights episode!! Especially after how great Earl was. My fiance was like, what the heck, it turned into Friends! And he was right, whats with all the makeup, cute clothes, and Angela’s SHEER BLOUSE???? I can understand glamming up Kelly, b/c it really did improve her character, but I don’t want to lose all my favorite characters. As excited as I was for PB&J, Pam changed. Jim changed. It was almost like some of their chemistry was being forced.

just my opinion, but i am going to re-watch season three again.

  41. Emily on September 28th, 2007 10:08 am

Ducky, I sort of agree with you. Jim and Pam moments do make me squee, but I’ll always prefer the years before they got together.

I trusted the writers after Casino Night to not screw things up, and I trust them now.

  42. tessahessa on September 28th, 2007 10:15 am

I think the problem in getting the couples together in other shows is that they were the ‘leads.’ This is not true in this show. They are part of a (damn good) ensemble, and I think it adds another element to the show that will be fun to see – how do they react to the office now that they are romantically linked.

My favorite moment of the whole show was a different Jim face – the one he threw back to the camera when he ‘had’ to carry the lamp. It was like carrying that lamp was proof that they were together, and he loved it.

  43. Merrie on September 28th, 2007 10:23 am

I liked the episode. Like you and most of the awesome readers of this blog, I thought the episode was about 15 minutes too long, but that’s OK. It still worked. I actually felt like I was sitting on one of my office meetings during Michael’s whole “body of a hippo, head of a eagle ” (or whatever) rambling. Very, very happy about Pam and Jim, and hope their colleagues don’t find out about it for a bit. Kevin’s reaction in the beginning was just like mine after both said they weren’t dating. I was going to quit the show if it was true! (Well, probably not, but I would have been disgruntled.)

My favorite line of the night was Michael telling Ryan everything is fine because of Double Jeopardy and Ryan saying I don’t think you understand Jeopardy and Michael answering in the form of a question.

Yeah Office actors, writers, crew, etc. You were Dawesome!

  44. dcm211 on September 28th, 2007 10:39 am

ok so i couldn’t really watch last night =( because my roomie had people over in my dorm room and stuff so i saw the kiss in the car and some running but that’s it… i’m very sad. does anybody know where i can find the episode online or something?

  45. Clare on September 28th, 2007 10:40 am

Well, that was the best hour of television I’ve seen in a long time 🙂 The funny is back, big time. And don’t even get me started on Jim and Pam… please… guh… soooooo good!! 🙂

  46. dcm211 on September 28th, 2007 11:08 am

ok so i didn’t really get to watch it last night. does anybody know where i could find it online or something? pleeease!

  47. Mary on September 28th, 2007 11:16 am

    SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Oh sweet Mary, Martha and Joseph. That was so amazing. Could Jim and Pam be any cuter! Dwight seriously pissed me off though. I mean, Angela was just balling her head off and HE PATTED HER ON THE HEAD?!?!. What is that? I would think that if you are calling someone monkey, there would be some hugging. Toby, love you. Jan, looking good in a t-shirt. Kevin cracks me up “Are you kidding me? They are totally hooking up..” Creed is 82 years old. Damn he looks good. And Meredith, so great.

Now, for the bad. I though an hour was a little too long. I mean, there were some funny parts, but…I don’t know.

  48. Marie on September 28th, 2007 11:21 am

dcm211 – I read somewhere that NBC has decided to put its shows on the NBC website, in full but including commercials, for one week after each episode airs. I haven’t actually looked at the site lately, but I’m sure I read it this past week in TV Guide or Entertainment Weekly, and I believe it applies for all NBC shows – Heroes, Friday Night Lights, and of course The Office, three of my favorites! So check out the NBC page. 🙂

  49. CrazyGringa on September 28th, 2007 11:25 am

I just have to say that my favorite moment in the show was Jim and Pam’s joint TH. They looked so freaking adorable and happy! I know there were many funny moments in the show but I just have to give the top spot to them.

Favorite quote goes to Pam: “I didn’t see where it started, but I saw where it ended”

  50. Lynzee on September 28th, 2007 11:29 am

    Hey GMMR-

I feel a little blasphemous saying this, but I felt it was too long too. I mean we didn’t even get into the fun run until the last 15 mins. There was ALOT of stuff killing time before that. For a show titled Fun Run I felt like they could have developed that part a lot more.

    Notes:
    -Not NEARLY enough Andy
    -Too much Michael
-I think they’re verging on Sitcom land. I went back and watched epsidoes from the first season and it totally gives you the mockumentary vibe that I feel is now fading from our beloved branch.
-AND PLEASE PLEASE: Pam and Jim are so freaking cute, I hope the writers let them be happy for a while.

Only 6 more days until a new Office!

  51. amyryd on September 28th, 2007 11:36 am

    Hey Kath,

You won’t find me throwing trash – I thought that the whole “what religion are you/head of a monkey body of a porcupine” segment went on WAAAAYYY too long.

With that said, I think I am still on a sugar high from the sweetness of Jim and Pam!! Their joint talking head was fan- FREAKING-tastic!! I love, love, love Jim’s face when he is so unabashedly happy. Aahh…that was nice.

  52. Mary on September 28th, 2007 11:54 am

    Erin and Ducky –

Even though I see both of your points, I think that I am seeing the Season 2 Jim and Pam (with bennies of course). As far as the Friends things go, and thing that with new confidence comes new style. I know that when I feel really good about myself, I tend to “sex” it up a bit. I take time the time to make sure that I look good, go out on a limb with clothes that I wouldn’t normally wear. And I think that is the case with Pam. She has a new found confidence that she never had. And since she found that confidence in her before she dated Jim, it can be a lasting confidence. But, even better, she is with the man she loves, and that joy just exudes out of her.

As for Angela, I think she was in a sheer blouse last year during the Christmas episode. Am I wrong/

  53. Melanie on September 28th, 2007 11:58 am

You’re very right — everything seemed a little different, and not just Pam and Angela looking ADORABLE in the office. But Dwight and Angela were definitely a bit out-of-character tonight, and that bothered me and my roomies too. That sideplot was a little weak, I thought, and the sheer blouses and the weirdness of their interactions bowled me over. Plus… isn’t Jim the only one who knew about them being together? That scene between Pam and Angela really threw me off.

But, on that note, all the actors and actresses were great last night!

And, um… where did Karen go?

  54. Mexicanity on September 28th, 2007 12:07 pm

I loved every second of it! I’m am one VERY happy Office fan this morning!! Like you GMMR I can’t stop smiling and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!!

  55. Ducky on September 28th, 2007 12:17 pm

Melanie, Angela told Pam about her and Dwight last year — remember they went to the fast food place?

Lynzee, you nailed it… the show now feels sitcom-y. They need to get back to the mockumentary feel, tootsweet!

  56. Merrie on September 28th, 2007 12:20 pm

Pam knew about Dwight and Angela long before Jim found out. She discovered it in Season 2. She just never said anything because people thought the same things about her and Jim.

  57. Carli on September 28th, 2007 1:03 pm

I loved the Support the Rabid bracelets and Michael not being superstitious but a little stitious! LOL And PBnJ were were adorable. I was getting a little mad in the beginning…I should’ve known.

  58. Jillene on September 28th, 2007 1:16 pm

I was sooooo happy for Pam and Jim. The scene Iliked the best when Pam blurted out and they were a couple. Jim looked shocked! Classic. I am so happy for them. I don’t know what is going to happen with Dwight and Angela. I would not have trusted Dwight with all those directions. I watched it and recorded it so I can watch it again.

  59. mg714 on September 28th, 2007 1:37 pm

I feel blasphemous about agreeinf with GMMR’s point about the hourlong, too – there was a point during the hour where I did think it was dragging a bit, but I did love having more than just a 20 minute episode. I don’t know about them having all the hourlongs right at the beginning of the season – I kind of wished they could have spread them thorughout the year instead.

But overall, yes, I absolutely loved the developments in this episode. JAM, of course, but it was interesting to get a larger glimpse into Dwight and Angela’s relationship. I also hated Dwight’s actions and his response to Angela being upset, but it is setting up an interesting storyline. I really hope they don’t break up, though – Rainn and Angela work so well together. I can’t wait to see more of Jan spiraling out of control – her confrontation with Pam was hilarious. I also am glad Meredith had more of a role finally and this year I’d love to see all the supporting characters get some more moments in the forefront.

One thing I loved about the episode was that they brought back some old characters – the IT guy from E-mail Surveilance, Elizabeth the stripper from Ben Franklin, and Billy Merchant! I love that The Office doesn’t forget its “past.”

Oh – and I’m really looking forward to next week’s episode, especially to see the Ryan-Kelly confrontation finally! I am so glad The Office is back and off to a great start for the fourth season.

  60. FrauFinch on September 28th, 2007 1:44 pm

wow…i’m a long-time reader, first-time poster, and the point that’s bringing me out of my shell is this: what’s up with the documentary crew pulling pam and jim aside to show them the footage of the car kiss? as far as i know, something like that has never been done before. it felt like the show was using the “documentary” footage as evidence to out an office couple (even though we’ve seen tons of footage of angela and dwight that they supposedly are not aware of, since they continue to hide their office romance, even in their talking heads). hmm. it just felt strange to me, and i, too, miss the true mockumentary style (which, in my mind, is what made the office uk so perfect and believable). i’m fine with the u.s. version being what it is (which is totally awesome), but something just felt icky about that “reveal.”

also, i agree with all that have voiced a desire for more andy bernard. come on, people! nipple chafing?!? unbelievable. 🙂

  61. Megan on September 28th, 2007 1:47 pm

I loved last night’s episode. It’s been a long summer without our favorite show and they came roarin’ back last night. I trust that the writers will keep us happy and laughing this season.

The only thing I really missed about last night’s show was the Jim/Dwight dynamic. They are my favorite two characters and their interactions are priceless.

Also, I’m going to throw this out there, but I’m wondering about a possible love triangle with Dwight-Angela-Andy. I know, I know! It’s crazy talk, but think about it… Dwight killed Angela’s cat and Andy was “sensitive” enough to ask Angela about Sprinkles. I see some development happening…

    FrauFinch –
Great point about the documentary crew. Here’s my thought on that. Last year, when Tanster and I were on the set, Greg Daniels specifically asked us if there was some possible confusion that the show was a documentary. With all the one camera shows out there today, he was interested to know if they should make more of a point of showing the documentary crew. That was the very first thing I thought of when I saw that scene last night. The second thought I had…why would the documentary crew every interfere that directly with the people they were filming. Third thought…I didn’t give a shit because it was an excuse to see Jim and Pam kiss again.

  65. K on September 28th, 2007 1:57 pm

    hahaha 🙂

  66. FrauFinch on September 28th, 2007 2:11 pm

ha! don’t get me wrong, i loved the seeing the kiss, and seeing jim and pam’s reaction to seeing the kiss! p.s. gmmr, i just squealed when i saw your response! to me! you’re, like, my hero. thanks for this site–it is the perfect fix for procrastinating grad students like myself.

  67. CFO (not my initials) on September 28th, 2007 2:15 pm

Here’s my thoughts on why they documentary crew showed the footage.
I think they did so just for Jim & Pam, like they probably have become relatively good “friends” since Jim & Pam acknowledge them so often. I think they were pointing out that Jim & Pam were “caught” but that the crew was not going to show that to anyone else. Except for us, the viewing audience. It felt to me that the documentary crew was still going to protect their secret from the rest of the office.

I thought the episode overall was great. It was so nice to be back on the air again!

Here’s a question: Did Pam really download the naughty celebrity video, or did Jim do it to set her up as a prank & she played along? That seemed unlike Pam to download that.

I loved Dwangela, but I would equally love to see jealous Dwight if they break up & Andy moves in on Angela…
‘Cause Andy cared enough to ask about the cat…

  68. Katelyn on September 28th, 2007 2:20 pm

For me the crew showing Jim and Pam the footage didn’t seem that weird. The crew has interacted with Pam before, showing her that Dwight was eating the candy bar that Angela had gotten out of the vending machine. I agree with CFO. The crew is around enough that they know them well.

Also, I must say I’m glad they finally made a joke about Pam being Pamela Anderson if she had married Roy. I have been waiting for that.

  69. Sara on September 28th, 2007 3:51 pm

To add to the “reveal” debate:

I don’t think it was was weird at all. To me, the camera crew probably associates best with Jim and Pam. (Probably even are almost friends with them, I mean come on, they’ve been there for YEARS). I saw it as the crew kind of calling them on their BS. I couldn’t see them doing that with Dwight and Angela, but with Jim and Pam, they seem to be closer to them anyway. Hope that rambling makes sense. 🙂

  70. mg714 on September 28th, 2007 4:10 pm

Just wanted to add my opinion re: the documentary crew showing JAM the footage – I didn’t really think it was weird either, just something different but it didn’t take me out of the show really. I think it was just a clever way to show what was going on with Jim and Pam.

Also, forgot to add in my earlier post to thank GMMR for holding her Buddy TV chat last night – it was fun. I’m glad also that you got to watch the show with a great group of fellow TV and Office fanatics! But how come you all weren’t at the cast’s premiere party as well? 😉

  71. Beth on September 28th, 2007 4:13 pm

I definitely see everyone’s points on it slowly starting to change from the first 3 seasons but if this is ‘real’ like we are supposed to believe it to be, the characters will change and grow and interact differently with each other from the first 3 seasons. People do change their hair and wardrobe, among other things! I’m also not worried about not knowing what happened during the 2 months we ‘missed’. They will give us flashbacks either with talking heads or video.

Kevin was absolutely wonderful last night…stole the show for me! Besides of course the amazing, wonderful, marvelousness that is the PB&J relationship. I hope they try to keep it a secret…YEAH FOR SEASON 4!

  72. PBnJ on September 28th, 2007 4:17 pm

CFO: I think Andy, Angela, and Dwight are going to be the new love triangle that has been mentioned. The whole Dwight euthenizing the cat thing was perfect to me. He is a farm boy and clearly has no emotional attachment to animals. And I loved Andy asking about Sprinkled because it seemed like the first sincere moment of interaction he has had with any other character.

As for the crew showing them the video, I loved it. I agree that Pam and Jim seem to have more of a reationship with the crew, especially after they followed Jim to Stamford. It felt believeable to me that they would confront them with it. I don’t think anyone else knows yet.

  73. jenn on September 28th, 2007 4:32 pm

I’m feeling very satisfied with this (TWSS). I loved Kevin’s: “Are you kidding me?” That made me laugh very loudly (poor neighbors). I really like the docu crew “outing” Jim and Pam. The crew had had to sit there for years watching these 2 who were obviously so much in love, maybe even before they knew it, right along with us. I think it was a perfect reveal. I like how the crew is sort of like a good confidant, they are trusted and I believe they will keep Jim and Pam’s ‘ship a secret until they want to let everyone know. It sort of made me think back to when the crew sort of clued Pam into the Dwight/Angela thing in S2 when they pointed out Dwight was eating the candy Angela bought. Loved that!

Ok-did not like Dwight killing the cat. WTH? How will Angela ever forgive him and how could he expect her to? Drama!

And Michael with his head of a …, body of a … thing. I kept thinking “wonder twin powers, activate!”.

Pure joy! I’m beyond happy we have our friends back! And it’s already a lighter, opposite feel from season 3, which I think will be a relief. I love to laugh at this show, and it hurt me a lot last season.

    Wow! sorry so ramblingish!

  74. JennyL on September 28th, 2007 6:25 pm

I was so busy all day at work today, this is the first time I’ve gotten to check your blog. The pic you have up of Jim, totally blushing about them dating? Perfect. I also am more in love with Jim Halpert than I ever was! It was a great episode, and I have been giddy about it all day!!

  75. Matt R on September 28th, 2007 6:36 pm

I really liked the episode. But I feel it will work better in syndication when it is split up as two separate eps. As an hour long it did feel about 10 minutes too long. And most of that 10 minutes was Michael. Don’t get me wrong, he had some of the funniest moments of the night, but I felt they were overdosing on his TH’s.

LOVED the Jim and Pam stuff. They were happy and interesting but I think the writers did a good job of not making them overly cutesy. They hit a nice tone.

I will agree with the others that Dwight felt off in the ep. Killing the cat was absolutly in character. But the fact that he wasn’t too sympathetic to Angela seemed odd after what we saw of him in S3.

And it goes without saying that Kevin was gold every time he was on screen. His comprehension of PB and J was priceless.

  76. FrauFinch on September 28th, 2007 6:37 pm

good point, jenn, about the crew members being confidants to jim and pam, and i definitely like that we, the audience, are “in the know” while their coworkers are not (though kevin is most definitely on to them). 🙂 i guess i was just commenting on a boundary breaking down more completely than it has in past seasons, and wondering if we’ll see this continued interaction between pb&j and crew.

  77. MJ on September 28th, 2007 11:05 pm

I loved it. Your close up picture of Jim & Pam kissing in her car, he even has his eyes closed. I really hope they stay together.

  78. carly jaye on September 28th, 2007 11:46 pm

i was actually thinking of this today & wanted to see if i could get some answers…i was a bit confused when angela comes to pam about her relationship issue aka dwight killing her cat…i know that pam knows about dwangela but i didn’t think that ANGELA knew that pam knew…did that make sense? did i miss something?

also, i TOTALLY think that they’re going to do a love triangle w/ dwight/angela/andy. i know some others mentioned it but i’m just adding to it. as soon as andy mentioned springles, i was like, “ooooo dwight is on angela’s $hit list & now andy’s making his move!!”- plus he hates dwight…it will be so full of tension i can’t stand it, haha

  79. janet on September 28th, 2007 11:49 pm

My favorite moment was when Pam said…” I didn’t see where it starts, but I saw where it ends” !!!! LOVED IT!! I agree, there was too much Michael. It was stale and forced. But still a 9 out of 10 epi!!!! If been squeeing all day and will continue till next week.

  80. carly jaye on September 28th, 2007 11:56 pm

whoops- sorry! i hadnt read through all of the comments…

ducky- do you mean when angela asked pam to get coffee with her & they went out? i didn’t think she told her about her & dwight…she said, “a friend of mine…”- i mean, pam knew it but i didn’t think she ever directly told her

i didn’t get to see the episode! =( does anybody know where i can find it online or something? please help!

  82. Sam on September 29th, 2007 1:40 am

No, no… this episode was awesome. Office maniacs need not feel the need to criticize the show if, in their hearts, know that it’s still the same greatness it’s always been.

I’ve gone down that path before– trying to agree with some of the critics or friends who like it but don’t love it.

But, no, I’ve learned to embrace my inner Office obsession fully and completely.

And there wasn’t a single scene in this episode that didn’t appeal to that inner person. It was perfect. PB&J are awesome– Jim and Pam haven’t changed per se. They have grown, and it makes sense that they would. Basically, some of their greatest character flaws (timidity, inferiority complex sometimes, and general blue feelings about their lives) had to be overcome for them to get together and admit their feelings. The process of working toward this relationship made them better people.

And I am definitely not in the camp that thinks couples shouldn’t get together. It worked for the BBC show b/c they had 13-14 episodes and then the end. American TV– for better or worse–doesn’t work like that, and seven seasons of Jim-Pam angst will not be fun to watch. We got a hint of that last season. Imagine the dreariness of Season 3…forever.

So instead…transfer that angst to Dwangela. There, it’s hilarious! This couple has been the most consistent and level-headed relationship featured in the show. It’s time to mess with that for our viewing pleasure.

Oh, and watch through again. There really isn’t too much Michael. I thought this episode worked a lot better as a 1-hour than The Job did. Some of those Dwight scenes in the finale were very slow. My only problem? That deleted scene with Toby and Kelly should never have been left out. One, because it’s awesome. Two, because it explains Kelly’s awkward response when Toby wins.

  83. AdditionbySubtraction on September 29th, 2007 7:13 am

Angela talking to Pam about her relationship didn’t seem off to me because she overtly asked Pam for advice regarding Dwight before, in The Return. She tells Pam that she misses Dwight, and Pam tells Angela that she should tell Michael about their relationship. So Angela is definitely aware that Pam knows 🙂

Loved this episode; I really can’t wait to see where they will take things in the fourth season!

  84. Lisa (aka lmr722) on September 29th, 2007 10:46 am

Hey, I’m a tad late to the discussion but just wanted to say thanks to GMMR for hosting the chat, it was so good to be with the regular flans for this.

I totally loved the film crew confrontation. IMO, it was a long time coming (twss). They caught Jim’s profession of love in CN, they filmed Pam breaking down in the hallway, they tried to intervene by asking Jim the unseen hypothetical question at PW, and filmed Jim asking Pam for ‘the date’. They know these two kids are madly in love and couldn’t help themselves. They, like us, just had to know.

  85. deanna on September 29th, 2007 7:54 pm

  87. DarthMom on September 29th, 2007 11:12 pm

Somebody help me! When Angela asks Pam for relationship advise and then talks about Dwight possibly killing her cat, it is obvious that her and Dwight are a couple. When did Angela find out that Pam knows about her and Dwight? Did Angela, at some point, confide in Pam that she and Dwight are together? I have no recollection of this happening! I know that Pam has known since the beginning and I know that Jim saw Dwight and Angela making out in the office last season. But I didn’t know that Angela knew that Pam knew! Am I making any sense? Can someone please explain? I’m so confused!

  88. DarthMom on September 29th, 2007 11:17 pm

Nevermind! I should have read all the previous comments before I posted my question (they’re just so many!). I need to go back and watch The Return. My memory sucks.

  89. Mere on September 30th, 2007 1:11 pm

I was very excited for this premiere and LOVED IT!

But I have an observation that is besides the point that everybody was acting a bit off character. I figure they are just comming out of the summer and everybody is happy, and it’ll die down eventually..

BUT! Have you guy’s noticed Jim’s Hair? When they showed him talking with Karen, his hair was all neat and done. And then later in the episode, his hair was like messy and grown out just like how it was in season 1. Did anybody else notice this? I believe this is a good thing because either a: Pam and Jim had a good night before they came to work the next day, b: because Pam loves Jim just the way he is, or a and b together!

  90. Give Me My Remote on September 30th, 2007 1:20 pm

The Karen/Jim fight was a flashback to the day or days after their trip to NYC for the job interview. His hair was different was because it was a few months before.

  91. AmyK on September 30th, 2007 4:44 pm

One more comment about the film crew confronting Jim and Pam….I think they did it, in part, to do Jim and Pam a favor. I think they wanted Jim and Pam to be okay with the PDA in front of the camera. Jim never would have held Pam’s hand at the Fun Run if they were still trying to hide it from everyone. I think the film crew wants this relationship to work as badly as we do and just wanted some sweet relief from the angst!

  92. Derek on October 1st, 2007 12:55 am

I’ve watched it about four times now, just to make sure I missed absolutely nothing.

I laughed, good and hard, during this episode. Our show is definitely back, and as mentioned above, I trust the writers of this show, practically with my life.

I’m surprised no one mentioned Michael saying “Prinkles”! It’s stuff like that that leaves a stitch in my side! Also, the Oscar/Kevin moments were brutally funny, like when Oscar was trying to get Kevin to stop saying, “I bet you were!”

Also, does anyone else notice how Frat Pack humor occasionally comes out in Michael’s monologues and one-liners in the series? His head/body speech in this episode specifically.

  93. HealthcareHottie on October 1st, 2007 4:58 pm

I didn’t get to see this ep until Sat. night. Thank you NBC for making the episodes available online for free – it’s about time!

First, let me say that I thought the ep was A-MA-ZING! I’m so glad to have The Office back.

Amy – I like your theory about why the doc crew outed Jim & Pam. Karen & Roy are out of the picture and enough is enough already. I think they let Dwight & Angela play their little game because it’s amusing for them and for the audience; but with Jim & Pam it was getting downright painful. I like that they are keeping it their little secret so PB&J don’t feel they have to hide from the camera crew and we get little details like them immediately dropping hands as soon as they noticed Michael sitting on the grass. I wouldn’t mind if it was kept secret from the rest of the office for a good amount of time, although with Kevin’s not so subtle sleuthing they might be exposed sooner than we would like.

Kath ITA with you about Dwight, he was like Dr. Jekell & Mr. Hyde during the whole episode. In some scenes he seems like normal Dwight, when he’s talking to Michael in his office and when he’s leaning against the building and Angela comes out to ask him to feed Sprinkles. (I loved the look he gave the camera when she told him about the fungal cream, but that confused me b/c it meant he knew they were being filmed and wouldn’t that be a give away that he knows that the camera crew knows about their relationship? It was still a great look though.) Then in the conference room scenes he was almost acting anamatronic (is that the right word?), like someone else was controlling his thoughts and actions; I thought it was weird.

I also loved the conference room scene with Jim, Michael, Pam & Dwight planning the Fun Run ceremony. C’mon, bat birth control?? How is that no one as mentioned this yet? I was ROTFL. I loved how Jim & Pam were playing around with Michael talking about the big check and hiring nurses by the hour (I liked that they brought Elizabeth back BTW). Then Dwight finally makes a really good, normal suggestion (which was also kind of out-of-character) and Michael says, “Have you seen that kid? He’s not going to college.” I could not stop laughing at that.

The best line of the night I thought was Pam’s “I didn’t see where it started but I saw where it ended line.” And when Michael said to think of him as one of her models I was waiting for her to follow with a line like, “Michael, I usually draw fruit.” It looked like Jim/John was trying very hard not to laugh during that whole scene. I think whenever we see him looking down like that he’s trying to hold it in; I’ve noticed that in several scenes.

I agree that the conference room scene with the religions and the weird hybrid animal gods could have been left out, but all in all I felt it was pure Office gold.

OK, enough out of me – That is all.
