THE OFFICE Spoilers – Season Finale

THE OFFICE Spoilers

THE OFFICE season finale is only a few weeks away. I know, right? Way too soon. But if there is anyone that knows how to put together a kick ass season finale it’s the crew over at THE OFFICE. Need I remind you of the kiss that shook the world on ‘Casino Night’ or perhaps those heart stopping three little words: “It’s a date!”.

This year’s season finale is sure to have some big moments. Security had been super tight during the shooting of the finale, going as far as requiring the actors to turn in their scripts at the end of the day and having everyone who even set foot on the set sign confidentiality agreements. But why?

After the jump (because we would never want to spoil an innocent passerbyer) we’ll talk about news about THE OFFICE spin-off and some rumors about just what might happen during the super secret OFFICE finale.

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

THE OFFICE Spin-Off
My girls over at E! are reporting that OFFICE producer/writer/actor Mike Schur will, along with Greg Daniels, be heading up the new OFFICE spin-off which will be premiering after the Super Bowl. NBC wouldn’t confirm, but it makes sense, no? Let’s just hope we don’t lose Michael from the original (or remake of the original….you know what I mean). Mike Schur is one of my favorite writers and has written classics such as ‘The Alliance’, ‘Office Olympics’, ‘The Christmas Party’ …just to name a few.

THE OFFICE Season Finale Spoilers
In last week’s episode, Toby Flenderson stunned us all by declaring he’s moving to Costa Rica. (Although, he didn’t technically stand up and scream “I’M MOVING TO COSTA RICA!!” so I’m not sure if it technically counts as a declaration.) Anway, will we be saying goodbye to Toby? Well, if the title of the season finale (‘Goodbye, Toby’) is any indication we will be doing just that.

Oscar nominated actress, Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone), will be appearing on the season finale as the HR rep taking over for Toby. Michael is instantly attracted and that can’t be good for anyone involved. Since we know that Amy Ryan isn’t going to be joining the cast, my thought is that maybe Toby isn’t really leaving after all. Maybe it’s all a smokescreen. E!’s sources have said that Paul Lieberstein is not leaving THE OFFICE. But that doesn’t mean Toby’s not. It just means that Paul the writer is staying on. I guess we’ll all have to wait and see if Toby walks out the doors. (I hope not).

Michael Ausiello has a few spoilers today that I think are worthy of our discussion. Let me just say that I’m not convinced Ausiello is that in the know. He’s definitely been wrong about OFFICE spoilers in the past and the spoilers below feels to me like he’s reaching a bit, but let’s talk about it anway:

Q: Considering the title of the Office season finale is “Goodbye, Toby,” I guess it’s safe to say that Paul Lieberstein is the one leaving the show.

Ausiello: Kinda-sorta safe, anyway. But get this — that’s not the twist that prompted producers to turn the set into Fort Knox. Nooo. According to several well-placed birdies, whose decision to sing to me like the proverbial canary was clearly in breach of their confidentiality agreements, there are three even bigger plot twists that will profoundly impact Angela, Dwight, Andy, Jan, Toby, Michael, Jim and Pam. I will now possibly reveal what those three twists are among (or not) the following six options (Possible Major Spoiler Alert): an engagement, a death, an infidelity, a pregnancy, a fire and a coming-out. Let the wild speculation begin!

The Players: Angela, Dwight, Andy, Pam, Jim, Michael and Jan
The Scenarios: Engagement, Death, Infidelity, Pregnancy, Fire, Coming-Out

If I were to guess…

The Engagement: Jim and Pam (although I’m not convinced)
Yes, it feels kind of soon, but in THE OFFICE world these two kids have been together for about a year. And the guys bought a ring after dating only a week. He’s ready. But is she?

“…says Krasinski, “from a character standpoint, they’re perfect for eachother, and I personally would love to see them jump to wedding bells, though I think Pam has to work out some issues first.” Fisher adds, “What does Pam do with the fact that she’s been working at a paper company for seven years and is 30 and still answering phones.”‘

I can’t imagine a world where Jim would ask and Pam would turn him down. After all they’ve been through? She couldn’t break his heart again, could she? Plus, it’s Jim Halpert.

The Infidelity: Dwight and Angela
I think in a moment of weakness Dwangela reunite. Does Andy see them? Yeppers. We all know that Andy is just a distraction and Angela still really loves Dwight. Let’s get these two back together already!

The Pregnancy: Jan & Michael
I’ll be honest – I can’t remember the status of Michael’s latest vasectomy. Is he able to have children without another procedure? If so, I’m thinking it’s Jan that is pregnant. Think about it…Michael has been desperately alone (and horny) since Jan left. I think he abhors the idea of getting back together with Jan, but we also know he wants to have children (a fact that has come up at least twice since the episodes returned from it’s hiatus). The hilarity of Michael getting exactly what he wants (kids) at a high price (having them with Jan) will lead to some great storytelling.

A few other things to ponder:

  • Besides a Jim and Pam engagement, I can’t imagine any other scenario which would require THE OFFICE set to be under lock and key.

  • Jenna Fischer said that there will be a cliffhanger in the finale. She hinted that it wouldn’t be Jim and Pam (meaning if he does propose then she will give us an answer during the episode). But Jenna has been known to purposely lead us astray in the past (that little vixen).

  • I don’t think the BIG story will involve Angela. Why? THE OFFICE writers couldn’t guarantee with 100% certainty that Angela Kinsey would be available for shooting. She very easily could have gone into labor early. And I don’t think they would base their big finale on an actor that may not have been around to shoot it. Then again, they could have shot her scenes early…but again, no need to have the set locked down if they shot early

So yeah, I’ve spent WAY too much time thinking about this today. But I want to get your take on all the rumors swirling around.

And I’m being a little selfish here. See my friend Whitney is in labor and I’m going to go babysit my friend Jess’s (Whit’s sister) baby while she is at the hospital. That means I’m going to need something to do while the baby is sleeping and that something to do is read YOUR comments on THE OFFICE spoilers. See, it’s a win-win….win.

You know what I think? I think it’s going to be Angela and Dwight getting engaged. I haven’t heard anyone say that, but I think that is the engagement that is going to happen.

  3. cam3150 on April 30th, 2008 11:24 am

Don’t forget, Ausiello said a few columns back that one of the following WOULD happen for Jim and Pam this season: they would sleep together (which they’re already doing), they would get engaged OR they would elope. He said the groundwork for their story this season would be laid on April 17th (the ring), it would gain momentum on the 24th (tomorrow — yipee) and would climax on May 1st. He also said they would NOT split up. So they may not be involved too heavily in the finale at all.

Soooooo, if Angela and Dwight get engaged (which I think may be the twist) then, can we see Jim and Pam eloping? OR could it be the other way around? Could Dwangela elope?

Sorry, one more thing….in Kristen’s (E!) latest post about the finale, she starts to talk about the finale but then says something like, “Sorry, I was distracted by something shiny — you don’t want me to ruin the finale do you?”. TWOP’ers are speculating that her comment was a veiled reference to an engagement ring. We all know that Mr. Halpert (the most romantic boyfriend alive) happens to have one of those in his possession. Was Kristen throwing us a bone with her comment???

Yikes, my stomach hurts just thinking about it…

My heart will be crushed if Jim proposes and Pam says no. That will be another big blow on Jim Halpert’s heart. I don’t know how much that man can take.

  6. Emily on April 30th, 2008 12:52 pm

All I know is that sleep will not be possible for days (weeks?) following the finale.
    And that is good!

As much as I love Pam and Jim, I don’t think Pam is ready for marriage. She was engaged to Roy for a long time. She left Roy for Jim, but when he finally came back to town nothing happened with him so back to Roy she went. JAM have been together for almost a year now, but I still think it’s too soon for her.

So other possibilities: Michael could ask Jan to marry him since he’s striking out with any and all other ladies he comes into contact with. He’s starting to get a little desperate, and Michael does some insane things when he’s desperate.

Alternately, there’s Ryan and Kelly. That would be a total shocker and something the writers would definitely want to keep under wraps. Ryan doesn’t seem to be having too much luck with the ladies either so you never know.

  8. paige on April 30th, 2008 3:20 pm

what ever happened to darryl and kelly? they’re still together, right? maybe she’s prego!

  9. IrishPrincess on April 30th, 2008 4:25 pm

i was thinking kelly and darryl as well.
for either the prego or the engagement?

jan pregnant woudl be AMAZING. but oh so cruel.

  10. Kelsy on April 30th, 2008 4:36 pm

I think it would be a HUGE surprise to everyone if it was Jim and Pam ended up pregnant. No one has suggested that but they are sleeping together so its plausable. And there really is no bigger obstacle to overcome in ANY relationship then a baby! Could you even imagine?!

  11. Julie on April 30th, 2008 9:00 pm

That was my question that Ausiello answered! But for real, I agree with what you said. I spent the better part of the morning thinking of different scenarios… It’s pretty much understood that Jim and Pam are going to get engaged (yay!). Ausiello has told us before that they’re not breaking up. I would LOVE it if Angela were cheating on Andy with Dwight and I think that it is only necessary that Michael and Jan procreate if Jan is going to stick around. I mean, what more can we do with her if that doesn’t happen? I was listening to an interview with Melora Hardin who said that Jan “wasn’t going anywhere.”

  12. Mo on April 30th, 2008 11:27 pm

I think the “big twist” is that Jim and Pam ran off and got married already. The viewers will only find out after it happens.

  13. JGirl on May 1st, 2008 8:22 am

I really can’t see Jim and Pam eloping. Pam wants/deserves a real wedding, to make up for the one stolen by Phyllis. I also don’t buy the pregnancy theory for them, it’s too soap opera-ish.

  14. HealthcareHottie on May 1st, 2008 2:30 pm

Ok. Here’s my wild and crazy theory (which I’m sure will never happen, but it may make a few of you laugh):

Andy realizes that he’s gay and has an affair with Oscar (infidelity). Then he “comes-out” to Angela and breaks up with her. This leads Angela to find comfort in the arms of her true love Dwight; and shortly after discovers that she is pregnant. (Don’t you think it would be hysterical after hiding a real pregnancy in Season 4, the writers have Angela wear one of those fake pregnancy pillows for all of Season 5?)

Oh yeah, and Jim & Pam get engaged.

  15. Megan on May 2nd, 2008 12:05 am

For as long as we’ve had to wait for Jim and Pam to get together, do we really think they’ll make a wedding that easy for us? *hm* It’s just too obvious… smells a little sketchy.

So my bet is on Dwight and Angela (or maybe Andy gets the nerve to propose–who knows?). I’m already laughing at the awkward misery that is a pregnant Jan. And here’s a kicker…what if Ryan comes out??

*cue oohs and ahhs* …right? right? You’re seein’ it now…

PS Can I just express how much I love this site? I’m so addicted.

  16. Travis on May 4th, 2008 9:44 pm

What about the death scenario? Ryan seems to be heading for an early demise with his substance problem and threatening Jim.

  17. Leigh on May 6th, 2008 10:17 pm

Speaking of Ryan and the possibility of someone having a drug problem, Whenever Michael and Dwight head to New York to party it up with Ryan, they take him back to his apt. because he is wasted. Remember when Ryan tells Michael that he has a friend who has a drug problem and asks for his advice on the matter. I think he is talking about himself. It makes sense, sometimes people ask for others advice about a “friend” with a problem and what they should do, but in reality they are really talking about themselves.
I dont really know what I think is going to happen with Jim and Pam which of course is driving me crazy! Its probably nothing but it made me nervous in last week’s episode ‘Did I Stutter’ the look that Pam gave Jim after he had just come out of the office where Ryan and Toby mentioned his job and goofing off and hanging around the front desk to much. She asked him if something was wrong or what he said and Jim kind of just said it was nothing, but she knows that he isn’t telling her something… I dont know…. I just dont know what to think of that.
I also think its to typical that a pregnancy would occur with Angela. So many viewers know that she was pregnant. Making her the target of the pregnancy wouldn’t a very thoughtful decision for part of the season finale plot twist.
Thats just what I think. However I really do think that if they involve the drug problem in the last 2 episodes it has to do something with Ryan. What kind of a random question is that to ask Michael of all people for advice. Ha Ha maybe Ryan still looks up to Ryan just a little bit.

  18. Jeremy on May 14th, 2008 12:51 am

Yes it was overly obvious that Ryan was talking about himself. Anyway, I never knew so many girls were such good fans of the office like I am. Where do I meet these girls. lol. Love the site.

P.S. I like the Ryan being gay theory. Good call. Can’t wait to find out.

I am so excited about tonight! It was great reading this post and all the commented theories.

I’m kind of with you all on the Jan pregnant thing. There would be SO MUCH to play off that storyline for so long. No character would handle that better (or worse, really) than Michael Scott. Haha

I hope Jim proposes. And I hope Pam says yes.
I’m sure Dwight and Angela will have something in the end – there was just WAY to much tension in the last episode.

Girls love the office!!! (Well, the office AND John K. haha – okay, and Stever Carrell is my hero).
