The Office Thursday on GMMR

It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for – The season 4 premiere of THE OFFICE. Can you feel the excitement in the air? Is it 9pm yet? I’m counting down the minutes!!

Since it’s Thursday I guess it means it’s THE OFFICE Thursday on GiveMeMyRemote. With the new season comes new changes. Jan leaving Corporate, Jim asking out Pam…it’s only natural that things change over time. So with that I thought I would change up Office Thursday just a bit in the new season. Here’s the deal…if you love The Office enough to care about Office Thursday on GMMR then you probably take the time to check out OfficeTally.com during the week. And if you do then you are probably caught up on the latest Office news and gossip. So rather than post all the info here, I thought we could make Office Thursdays a little more about the true Dunder Mifflinites – YOU. As you’ll see we’re still going to be talking Office gossip, but I thought maybe this could be a forum for you to talk about your favorite show. So let’s get to it…

Tonight on The Office…
The Office: “Fun Run”“Fun Run” | 9/8c on NBC | 1-hour episode
A freak accident causes Michael to feel the office is cursed. He explores the religious beliefs of his employees before deciding to hold a charity 5K fun run. Meanwhile, further developments in the romances of Pam and Jim and Dwight and Angela are explored. (Pics | watch 6 clips from tonight’s episode)

Set the TiVos…

  • LIVE! Blogging with Greg Daniels | Tonight 10pm EST on NBC.com
  • Ed Helms on Late Night with Conan O’Brien | Tonight 12:35 on NBC.com
  • Angela Kinsey on The Late Show with David Letterman|Friday, Oct. 5th @ 11:35pm

LIVE! Office Chat…
After much debate I’ve decided to bring back the Buddy TV LIVE! Office chat for viewers on the East Coast. Come and watch the show along with fellow Office fans. Tonight is going to be a little interesting as I’m actually on the West Coast. I might not be able to stick around for much of the chat, but I’ve got some faithful Assistant to the Regional Managers that are going to help me out. The Office chat kicks off at 8:30pm EST…I hope you’ll join us. Click on the link below to set up a reminder or click here and search for The Office TVJ Session on BuddyTV.

From the Desk of Meredith Palmer…
Our favorite redhead is back this season with her weekly TV guide blog posts. This week Kate brings us behind-the-scenes on what award season is really like, the filming of “Fun Run” and some celebs that just happen to be Dunder Mifflinites at heart. (Read Kate’s blog)

More Office Thursday after the jump!

Dunder Mifflin Infinity…
dmi.jpgI’ve got another update to my resume now. I have just been hired as the Branch Manager for the MA-Chicopee arm of Dunder Mifflin. I’m glad to know that so many of you are going to be working with me at the Best.Branch.Ever!! I’m so enthused that so many Office fans are going to be participating in the online experience. I think NBC.com was a bit shocked at the response as well as they’ve had a few technical difficulties since launch. I think we broke their brain. I’m sure they’re working 24/7 to get everything up and running. I’m looking forward to playing along with not only my branch but others as well. If you want to learn more about Dunder Mifflin Infinity, click here.

And the Dundie Goes To…
Dundie AwardOk Office fans, it’s time to spill. Each week you’re going to voice off on a very important Office question. Think long and hard about this one (that’s what she said): If you could pick one episode and one episode only to convince someone to watch The Office, which one would it be and why?

The Office Fan Spotlight…
Here’s something new I thought we’d try out for Office Thursdays. Get to know your fellow Office fan as we put the spotlight on a new fan each week. If you’d like to be a featured in “the spotlight” just email me at info(at)givememyremote(dot)com, Subject: The Office Fan Spotlight. I will contact each of you individually about next steps. I guess I’ll start with me…(although I think most of you know me by now)

me_kras.jpgName: Kath/GMMR

Favorite Office Episode: A tough one, but I’m going to have to go with “Diversity Day” because that’s where it all started for me

Yay for the return of The Office Thursday!

I got a friend hooked on the show with The Negotiation, but it took some background explanation.

  2. Jo on September 27th, 2007 11:53 am

    OFFICE THURSDAY!!!

Hmm I’m going to pick The Alliance to convert new people. It’s got a little taste of everything. Jim & Pam pranks, Dwight insanity, Michael’s deep desire to be loved that turns into extremely awkward and inappropriate comments. Plus, dwight busts out of a box which is just hysterical.

Meanwhile, I can’t wait for nbc to start selling dundie’s b/c i want one for my office SO bad.

  3. Mosby on September 27th, 2007 11:56 am

Office Thursdays on GMMR, how I love thee!

  4. Kristi on September 27th, 2007 11:57 am

Awesome! I’m so excited for tonight… only 9 more hours!! I don’t know what i’m going to do with my day, gah!

  5. P. Rock on September 27th, 2007 12:02 pm

It’s here, the premiere. I know many people will disagree with me on this, but honestly, I was/am a huge fan of Karen and Jim…

  6. laci on September 27th, 2007 12:07 pm

welcome back, dunder mifflin. how we’ve missed thee…

intro to the office: “Office Olympics.” with the exception of an investigation (“The Secret” would be my #2 – it’s actually one of my favorites of all time, but a little too awkward for a first-timer…), it’s got everything: jim/pam, the beloved yogurt lids, michael’s gay-friendly condo, flonkerton, and this gem of a line, “your condo’s in america”. what a great episode.

    i think i just re-converted myself!

  7. sare81 on September 27th, 2007 12:10 pm

SO excited for tonight!! The first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning was, “YES! THE OFFICE PREMIERE IS TONIGHT!!”
How will I last all day at work?!

  8. Lisa (aka lmr722) on September 27th, 2007 12:13 pm

Yeah for BuddyTV session making a comeback. I will be there!

    8 hours 45 minutes…

  9. Caroline on September 27th, 2007 12:17 pm

YAY! Office Thursday is back! I’m sooooo excited.

As for the episode I would use to convert someone, it really depends on who I’m trying to convert. For example, I converted my old roommate by showing her the tail end of Casino Night because she loves romance storylines. Then she demanded that I show her everything that led up to that point. So, I don’t know. I think I would choose “The Alliance” as a good starting point for any Office neophyte.

  10. prohibitionpirate on September 27th, 2007 12:21 pm

I would have to go with Booze Cruise or the Fire. Both were outstanding and showcased the entire cast doing what they do best, being amazingly awkward and hysterical. I love it!

  11. Emily on September 27th, 2007 12:25 pm

This is my favorite day of the year, I can’t wait for the premiere!!

I have converted many, many people into Office fans..my Season 1 and 2 DVDs have been well-loved. In my experience, if they were already fans of the British version, it takes at least Diversity Day and then maybe Health Care and The Alliance for them to realize the show’s uniquely American humor. For total newbies, the pilot is usually enough. But overall, I would always recommend that people watch Diversity Day to convice others to watch. Without fail, they all fall in love with the show. How could you not?

And that Office video is the best I’ve even seen…way to go, Mozartsfriend!

  12. Emily on September 27th, 2007 12:32 pm

I can’t wait, although I may be breaking the cardinal rule of Office Fandom, and I may not watch it tonight (being a good roomie is important…. being a good roomie is important).
Hmm… one episode. I think I would have to choose a S2 episode… Maybe Conflict Resolution? Drug Testing? Email Survellience? One of those. I love all three. How can I choose?
In general, when I converted people to the show they just watched whatever episode was on TV. I had one friend who insisted upon watching The Pilot, even though I kept telling her it wasn’t good.

I can’t wait until I get to see it, be it tonight, live (which I so want), or later… and not so live. 🙁

  13. Kari on September 27th, 2007 12:40 pm

I think the Christmas Party is a great intro for new fans. It’s got the whole ensemble, cute Jim/Pam, and Dwight’s elvish features. Plus Todd Packer.

  14. BonnieB on September 27th, 2007 12:45 pm

So where can we get a copy of Greg Daniel’s hilarious TCA acceptance speech that Meredith mentions? Sounds like something I’d love to read

  15. Lynzee on September 27th, 2007 12:53 pm

OFFICE THURSDAY oh how I’ve missed thee.

Wow there has been some great suggestions to first episodes. The Alliance is def. a fantastic pick, but I’m going to have to go sentimental and choose the one that got me hooked. The cold opener for the Booze Cruise is the most classic cold opener of all time. It’s simple, but so funny and immediately establishes the dynamic between both Pam and Jim and Jim and Dwight.

The rest of the episode perfectly catches everyone on the Pam Jim dilemma with her getting engaged again and Jim’s reaction, Michael’s obtuse-ness to reality with trying to dominate the meeting, Dwights endless desire for power and responsibility along with key insights to many of the other main players.

It might not be the absolute BEST episode ever, but it def catches newbies up to what’s going on in our favorite office.

  16. CrazyGringa on September 27th, 2007 12:55 pm

I would go with Diversity Day. I got a few of my friends interested in watching the show based on that episode and now they are hooked. So many great zingers and you can never go wrong with colored greens or collard people. Also, this was the show that I watched that made me spit out my water and got me hooked.

  17. Alyson on September 27th, 2007 1:12 pm

Yay for Office Thursdays on GMMR!

I think I’d have to go with the Fire, since it’s early on, and yet it’s still an excellent example of the fact that the Office is so great because of all the characters. It’s truly an ensemble show, and this showcases it pretty well. It’s got classic Dwight (as he completes against Ryan, Michael’s man crush), great Jim/Pam scenes, as well as Michael Scott being Michael Scott in the best possible way.

  18. Amy on September 27th, 2007 1:12 pm

Oh how I missed thee, Office Thursday!

As far as which episode I would choose to convert new Office Fans, is tough, generally I just bring the dvds and hit play. I think I would have to choose Office Olympics. Jim/Pam relationship is obvious so is Angela’s attitude toward the office and Michael and Dwight are out on a mission. There are too many good ones to choose from but I think I’d have to narrow it down to that.

  19. webeJAMmin on September 27th, 2007 1:18 pm

Drug testing was one of the funniest episodes that I have seen of The Office. My friends and I were hooked after that.

  20. Lauren on September 27th, 2007 1:19 pm

OFFICE THURSDAYS! All is right in the world!!!

    a) the Love Today video rocks
    b) I can’t join the buddy tv chat tonight because I’m hosting a party, and I can’t let all my friends know the true extent of my Office obsession
    c) ok seriously, this is the best day ever! How pumped am I? Seriously.
    d) I think Office Olympics–hysterical, shows how the show is about both day to day life in the office, and takes the characters outside a lot, and shows that funny is often mixed with touching moments too.

  21. Michele on September 27th, 2007 1:25 pm

I am so excited I think my family is considering seeking professional help. :0) It is such a hard choice because there is no BAD episode. I would narrow it down to Health Care, The Dundies, The Injury or The Client. So many laugh out loud moments, great Jim + Pam, great Jim + Dwight, crazy crazy Michael. 7 1/2 hours to go. Woot!

  22. Becky on September 27th, 2007 1:26 pm

So, the first episode i ever saw was The Fight. The very beginning where Dwight’s desk is missing – and it’s in the bathroom. HILARIOUS!!! My husband and I were like – what is this show? (We had flipped over there because my Fox channel was messing up Bones)

The next one was The Client. The whole thing with the three of them at Chili’s and then Michael closing the sale. Also all of the Jim & Pam stuff. The look he gave the camera after he said that he had other plans but this was ok too. And then the rooftop scene.

At this point I’m ordering the Season 1 DVDs so I can see what I’ve missed.

And then there was Diversity Day in my life. “You don’t call them collared people – that’s offensive” I nearly hurt myself laughing – and then there was the head on the shoulder and the little Jim smile. And I was in love with Jim Halpert.

And then (back in Season 2) I see Email Surveillence and the karaoke and the party and the bedroom scene.\

So, those sucked me in. I like Diversity Day for other people. Also – Casino night I think would be good.

I’m so happy it’s back on tonight. And four hour long episodes in a row. I might faint. 🙂

  23. mg714 on September 27th, 2007 1:31 pm

I am way too excited for tonight – there’s so much Office news out there I’m hardly getting any work done today! Oh well – all for the greater good! 😉

There are so many good episodes to get people converted to The Office – I think Diversity Day or The Dundies might be good ones to start people off with.

I’ll definitely try to make it to the Buddy TV chat but I really want to focus on the whole hour so may not end up chatting much. I love Office Thursdays!

  24. AMM on September 27th, 2007 2:13 pm

Going to a friends tonight “to watch Greys”. Her boyfriend and I will be in another room watching The Office.

My conversion episode would be The Injury. It was the one where I laughed out loud the most.

  25. JennyL on September 27th, 2007 2:54 pm

YIPEE!! I’m counting the minutes too.

I would have to pick Woman’s Appreciation. I just think it’s the funniest lines at the beginning, and it has me cracking up through the whole thing. That’s a hard thing to pick though, b/c Basketball and the Injury are also SO classic. And then there are the classic JAM episodes, too.

Look at all the great episode choices here! Man this show is awesome. 🙂

  26. P. Rock on September 27th, 2007 3:01 pm

Episodes I have to pick are Diversity Day, which is still my favorite. But, also a great place for any newbie to start with is The Dundies…what more could you ask for from an episodes. Pam drunk, Jim pining after her, Stanley’s lack of interest in the awards, Michael putting on the performance of a lifetime…

  27. Psappy on September 27th, 2007 3:12 pm

I missed Office Thursdays! The episode I get my friends to watch in order to get them hooked is “Health Care”. From Hot Dog Fingers, Count Choculitis, Spontaneous Dental Hydroplosion, to my favorite Office line ever: ” I still have a vagina”.

  28. Beth on September 27th, 2007 3:51 pm

I don’t think I realized how much I missed The Office Thursdays until right now, seeing all the great stuff, reading peoples posts…oh my, i’m feeling a bit overwhelmed right now! It has definitely been hard to get work done…

Anytime I try to get people to understand the wonderfulness that is The Office I either show them The Alliance, Drug Testing or The Injury. I started watching with the dvds of season 2 so those episodes are what brought me in and kept me coming back for more…those are just classics in my book!

  29. silsont on September 27th, 2007 4:07 pm

If I had one episode I would recommend to the uninitiated, it would be “The Injury” hands-down. Still my favorite episode because I believe it hits on all cylinders and is the essence of Michael and The Office crew (except maybe Dwight, ’cause he was actually very sweet in the epi).

BTW, I recommend this episode all the time to the newbies.

  30. Clare on September 27th, 2007 4:26 pm

Office Thursday… I think I’m going to faint. No, seriously, pass out. It’s too much.

  31. natasha on September 27th, 2007 6:50 pm

Easy choice for me: The Dundies. Drunk Pam, ridiculous Michael, the first kiss, and God in this Chili’s tonight. I think this episode sets up the overall dynamic of the Office for anyone. Jim/Pam, and Michael being both a terrible boss and a sweetheart in his own way at the same time. Also, my personal favorite episode, which I will watch 109890234 times, so I dont mind watching it over and over with soon-to-be converts.

  32. Matt R on September 27th, 2007 7:12 pm

So nice to have Office thursdays off.

If I had one episode to convert someone it would have to be “The Client”. It’s got Jim and Pam’s fake date, the entire office reading ‘Threat Level: Midnight’, Michael showing that even though he is incredibly inappropriate he is also a darn good salesman, the entire Michael/Jan thing, ‘Dwigt’ and Dwight saying the phrase “My Uncle bought me these fireworks.” Fantastic all the way around.

  33. Courtney Martin on September 27th, 2007 7:42 pm

f you could pick one episode and one episode only to convince someone to watch The Office, which one would it be and why?

after thinking long and hard about this (thats what she said) I would have to say The Alliance. Why? well let me tell you, it shows us loyal dwight shrute fans and newcomers the hilarious scenes better jim and dwight, how they act with eachother.. with hilarious results. Also, gives us Jim and pam moments, which come on we all loooovee!!!!!!!! And I dont want to continue going on for quite a while about this but come on.. moving a watercooler near your desk and hiding in a box, thats classic!!!!!
