Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Wednesday, February 18, 2009

February 18, 2009 by

I’ve got my game hat on and I’m ready for Wednesday night TV. Are you?  It’s going to be a late night tonight…I’m talking really late as I have to get through LOST, AMERICAN IDOL and DAMAGES. I promise I will do my very best to get reviews of each of these shows up as soon as possible either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Housekeeping…
Once again thanks to everyone for their participation in the GMMR survey (click here to take the GiveMeMyRemote.com survey). If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes to share your thoughts.

As I said yesterday, there will be some changes as a result of what I’m hearing.  Based on the feedback I’m thinking about ditching the home page all together.  I thought it was a nice entry into GMMR for new users, but there seems to be all kinds of confusion between the stuff on the home page and what people will find on the BLOG page (hint: it’s all the same stuff). Still debating that one – it took me a long time to get it live and will take me more time again to switch it around again. With a packed TV schedule, a full time job, sleep and trying to have some semblance of a life, there’s only so much time in the day.  Ha ha!  Someone cue the violins!

But enough about that, let’s talk about some of the highlights from tonight’s TV lineup, shall we?

American Idol | 8pm on Fox
Results from last night’s auditions. The top guy and girl and whomever is next in line with the most votes moves on to the Top 12. [GMMR: Did you watch?  Did you vote for your top girl & guy in the GMMR IDOL poll?  Go for it.]

Lost | 9pm on ABC
“316”
The way back to the island is revealed to members of the Oceanic 6, but there’s trouble ahead when not all of them wish to return.[GMMR: I’m going to attempt to write up my thoughts on LOST tonight so we can talk about it in the morning. Sorry that I let it get away from me last week. I’m so excited for another episode.  Looks like the Oceanic 6 are getting closer and closer to the island.  Reunited and it feels so good.]

Life | 9pm on NBC
“I Heart Mom”

A man is found beaten and shot dead with a mouth full of money in a house with no roof. Crews and Reese begin their investigation and discover the victim was running an elaborate construction scam that left his clients without roofs or money.

Damages | 10pm on FX
New York Sucks
As new tension develops between Ellen and Patty over how to proceed in the case against Ultima National Resources, Ellen provides the FBI with a new lead to bring Patty down. [GMMR: Based on the survey feedback received so far it seems that more people are watching DAMAGES than I thought. I’ll do my best to share my thoughts tonight. ]

Life on Mars | 10pm on ABC
Home is Where You Hang Your Holster
A councilman caught with a hooker in a police raid on a motel reveals a shocking secret to Sam. Meanwhile, a chaotic shooting breaks out at the precinct.

Also playing…

  • The New Adventures of Old Christine | 8pm on CBS: Christine is initially flattered when another scatterbrained mother at Ritchie’s school considers her a “rock,” but quickly tires of the responsibility of being responsible.
  • Gary Unmarried | 8:30pm on CBS: Gary faces an audit from the IRS and reluctantly takes financial advice from Allison s brother to address the issue.
  • Criminal Minds | 9pm on CBS: The team pursues a copycat murderer who is duplicating the methods of infamous serial killers.
  • Law & Order | 10pm on NBC: A Web site operator s death leads Lupo and Bernard to investigate a Christian subculture.
  • CSI:NY | 10pm on CBS: When the Mayor’s dead body falls from the ceiling, along with hundreds of balloons, at a charity fundraiser, Stella and her date find themselves in the middle of the crime scene and Mac goes head to head with Robert Dunbrook.
  • Top Chef | 10pm on Bravo: The final four chefs pull out all the stops in an effort to impress the judges before the finale.

May I ask…what will YOU be watching?

I don’t mean to be a nitpick but it’s been bugging me for a few weeks now. “Life” is on NBC not Fox. 🙂

It’s a great show by the way!

THANKS! I never noticed that before. That’s not nitpicking at all. Actually you’d be more justified in saying – “Hey asshat, get it right!”

  3. SB on February 18th, 2009 10:39 am

OMG, I love Top Chef. Are there any other watchers here?

  4. Jen on February 18th, 2009 11:25 am

I LOVE Top Chef!!! I’m so excited to see how the finale plays out. 🙂

  5. Jen on February 18th, 2009 11:27 am

And not to nitpick also, but Top Chef is down to the final four, not five. Sorry!!!

  6. SB on February 18th, 2009 11:43 am

Don’t be sorry, say it loud and say it proud–GonnoLeah is gone, and hopefully HO-sea is next!

  7. Jen on February 18th, 2009 11:59 am

OMG – agreed! Leah was a looooooooong time coming – I’m just glad they finally knocked her out. I’m ok with Hosea, but the way he fixates on Stefan is frustratingly annoying and it is going to bite him in the ass in these final episodes – can’t wait!

Thanks for the heads up no the errors. This is what happens when I do the Spotlight at 2am the night before.

  9. SB on February 18th, 2009 12:25 pm

HOsea and GonnoLeah just totally grossed me out with their disgusting cheating on their significant others. Fabio is my favorite, but Carla really grew on me. And Stefan is a dick, but he is funny and he does back up his ego, so I can enjoy it. And speaking of people who are kind of a dick, I sort of miss Jeff. I really think he should’ve made it to the final 4 over Ho.

  10. Jen on February 18th, 2009 12:35 pm

I’m loving on Stefan – yes, he is an ass, but he has the talent to back it up so I don’t mind it. Actually, I love it. I don’t understand why so many people despise him – they’re have been way worse participants on the show. Same with Fabio, but Fabio isn’t quite as rude – he’s just got the boasting ego like all the finals boys do. But I’m rooting for the Europeans to take it – they’ve both been pretty consistent, not to mention they both have the entertainment factor that makes you WANT to watch them.

Carla has definitely stepped it up, and I’m glad she’s stayed around as long as she has. I love watching when you get people like her who have the skills but just have to adapt to the show, and get better as it progresses.

Note to self…find someone to cover TOP CHEF next year. Thanks for the feedback!

  12. Patty on February 18th, 2009 1:28 pm

Carla has really grown on me and I really like Fabio. It will be interesting to see hwo this all plays out. 2 go home tonight, right?

  13. SB on February 18th, 2009 3:53 pm

Kath! Memememememe! I totally think I could do double duty! And Billy loooooves Top Chef (because the combination of Padma and food about makes his head explode), so I watch it live every week. Heck, if you want, I’ll cover the last couple episodes of this season for you. Just let me know. 🙂

Top Chef is the BEST reality show on television today. Well, besides Project Runway!!!
I’m just watching with my fingers crossed that Hosea will finally go home tonight!!!

  15. Nicole on February 18th, 2009 9:34 pm

Oh I love that there are so many Top Chef aficionados on GMMR!!! I’ve been hooked since last season, and I’m so into it again this year. I was so glad Leah got the boot last week, and I would love to see a Stefan/Fabio battle for top spot. You know they would love that too – it would be so fun to watch. I mostly hope Fabio doesn’t go home tonight because a night without his hi-larious quotes just wouldn’t be the same. They are so going to use one of his phrases on the annual t-shirt this year!

Criminal Minds is so good. I always watch it at night (after the kids are down) and last night I forgot to lock the doors before I started it. Creepy!

Also watched last week’s Psych (I can’t ever comment on shows the day they air since I watch at varied times). Dude. The joke about The Mentalist was so awesome. And the Mean Joe Greene-esque scene with Little Shawn was sweet. The rapid-fire banter on that show is what makes it so great. The 3 cops are the weakest part of that show (sorry to bust on Roday’s girlfriend). I think it would play better if they weren’t so cartoony. Just have Shawn and Gus be the silly ones. And give Gus more of a purpose, please! He’s just the tag-along for the most part. When he uses his Super Smeller then he is contributing, but how often does he have to pull that out? His knowledge of pharmacuticals is helpful sometimes, but still. How does he get as much access to police files as Shawn? OK, just took the long way through Tangent Town. Parking.
    Ignition off.
