TV Buzz: Haven’t I Seen You Before? Edition – Veronica Mars, George Clooney and More…

January 28, 2009 by

From remakes of old shows both on the big screen and small, to once again stealing from the Brits, to the return of an oldie but hottie – todays’ TV buzz proves the adage “everything old is new again”.  But the question remains, is it better the second time around?

Read on for buzz on THE A TEAM, VERONICA MARS, THE OFFICE, ABFAB, Clooney and more…

Who will be the B Team Taking Over for THE A TEAM?

Fox has announced the creative team that will be helming the upcoming movie version of THE A-TEAM. Joe Carnahan will direct while Tony & Ridley Scott will produce. Stephen J. Cannell, who was the creator of the TV series, is also on board as a producer.  The script by Skip Woods is being worked on by Carnaham and Brian Bloom (as in ‘I get lost…in your eyes‘ Brian Bloom, sigh).

Those involved say that it’s important to them to not make this to cheesy as they want to hold true to the original series.  But wasn’t the original A-TEAM just a little campy and cheesy to begin with? (Variety)

Are you ready for an A-TEAM movie?  Can the magic of the TV show be captured on the big screen? Casting calls?  Anyone come to mind that could play the legendary roles of John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, B.A. Baracus, Murdock, The Face?

Will VERONICA MARS PI Her Way to the Big Screen?

Speaking of the leap from the small screen to the big screen…I’ve been rather reticent about the rumors swirling around about the possible VERONICA MARS movie. I know everyone is all a flutter about it, but I’m not.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for seeing my VM friends again. I was very disappointed in the ending of the show and I would enjoy the chance to have some closure with Veronica, Logan and the rest.  But I don’t really buy that it’s going to happen.  Yes Joel Silver wants it done, and yes Rob Thomas said he is going to pen it, but do I see it happening?  Nope.  I don’t believe for one second that a studio would back and distribute a film that had horrible TV ratings on the lowest rated network.  Why would they do that?  I understand that this worked for “Firefly”/”Serenity”, but that was a show that had the full support of the Whedonverse.  I just can’t see the same turnout for VERONICA MARS.  I would love nothing more than to be wrong on this one.  Make it happen. But until I see a release date I’m not going to let myself get overly excited about this one.

Would you like to see a VERONICA MARS movie?  Who are the essential cast members that must return? Do you see this ever coming to life on the big screen?

Some not so ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS News

As we talked about waaaay back in October, Fox is looking to remake one of my very favorite comedies of all time, ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.  Of course I’m 100% against this (a) because the show is too perfect as it is and it’s can’t be duplicated and (b) how about we start getting some new ideas instead of just remaking British shows?! Or even worse yet, remaking failed shows of our own (yes, I’m talking to you “Cupid”).  I know this seems a bit bizarre coming from a girl whose favorite comedy is a remake of the UK version of THE OFFICE, but I stand my ground – I don’t want to see this happen.  But it’s full steam ahead.  The script has been written and the casting is underway.  Kristen Johnson read for the role of Edina last week and shortly after the show was picked up for pilot.  Ab…not so fab. (Variety)

Any other ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS fans out there that are with me on this one? Are you ready for the U.S. version of Patsy and Edina? Is it going to be LaCroix, sweetie darling?

Jim and Pam do Porn?!
Now as we all know, the NBC version of THE OFFICE is based on the UK version of the show.  But now it seems our OFFICE is the source of inspiration for…porn.  “The Office – an XXX Parody” is definitely NSFW (no nudity, but definitely foul language). Is this what Jim and Pam would be like if they were on cable? I’m not sure I want to see the Andy/Angela/Dwight triangle played out in this version of the show.

The One Where We Find Out Even More Needless Info About Celebrities

Wonder if you’re related to a famous celebrity?  Come this Spring you might just find out. Lisa Kudrow will serve as Executive Producer of “Who Do You Think You Are?”, a reality series that explores celebrities ancestral history.  The show is a based on a similar BBC series (go figure) and will be co-produced by the Brits who ran the original.  Sarah Jessica Parker and Susan Sarandon, as well as Kudrow, have already signed on.  Forget about being six degree of Kevin Bacon – maybe you’ll find out that you’re his fourth cousin! (THR)

I’m not sure that I care about Carrie Bradshaws’s great-great grandfather.  Do you? Whose celebrity family tree would most like to explore? (Ok that sounded way dirtier than it was intended).

George Clooney…’Nuff Said

Everything old may be new again, and in this case the old is still all kinds of sexy.  The rumors are true – George Clooney is reprising his role as Dr. Doug Ross on ER during an episode in this, its final season.  I so new Clooney would be back.  The man has nothing to lose by revisiting his roots. I think it was a good move on his part – it’s going to do amazing things for the show’s ratings…that night.  Now I’m not suggesting he join Jo, Natalie, Blair and Tootie for a “Facts of Life” reunion, but I’m glad Clooney is giving back a little something to the show that was so instrumental in his career.

Will you turn in to see Clooney back on ER?  I know I will.

I would go crazy for a Veronica Mars movie. Crazy, I tell you. But I too am doubtful that it will happen, and I don’t want to get my hopes up in order to have my dreams crushed.
