VERONICA MARS Series Finale Recap & Spoilers

VERONICA MARS Series Finale

Much like Miss Mars herself, my life has been keeping me pretty busy these days.  With the work I have to do today before heading out to a charity event tonight, I think this is going to have to be the last post of the day (well at least until I get home late tonight).  I thought I would post this now so VERONICA MARS fans can chat about tonight’s SERIES finale before and after the show.  I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Part 1 spoilers
Someone secretly passed along the script for Part 1 (“Weevil’s Wobble But They Don’t Go Down”) of tonight’s 2 episode series finale of VERONICA MARS. Please let me be the first to say that it’s 100% possible that the script has changed since I first received it months ago. But in case it hasn’t, here’s a few tidbits to get you excited for tonight.

  • Mac tries to give Veronica some advice on dealing with her relationship with Piz. Seems Piz still isn’t too stoked about Veronica’s blase attitude about being away from each other all summer
  • When Weevil is picked up out of a lineup and arrested he asks Keith for his one phone call…and calls Veronica
  • Wallace is stalked but only because someone wants him to join a secret society…think Skulls and Bones
  • Dick continues to feels guilty about Cassidy’s death
  • A little shout out to “The Office” tonight with a sweet “that’s what she said” moment
  • Mac and Dick share a moment
  • Logan and Piz have it out over something Piz may or may not have done

I must have been in denial about this being the series finale because I totally forgot to set my dvd recorder for tonight and am out of town! Do they still put the show up afterwards on The CW’s website or on iTunes?

  4. Mannie on May 22nd, 2007 3:42 pm

mg714 – they do put the episodes up online, but I think it takes a day for them to get them up.

I can’t wait for tonight. I still am hopefull Rob will do something for the fans, either tell us how he would have ended it or make an extra episode for the box set or the movie thing.

Wow. Just wow. So many call backs to season 1. And Roni is 1000x funnier when she’s out for blood. Loved the line about Rob Thomas.

  6. Jenny on May 22nd, 2007 9:31 pm

WOW. It’s over. o.v.e.r. And so much left unsaid/unsettled. Loved the look Veronica gave Logan after he beat up that guy. Hated how we wont get to see the conclusion of the show the way Rob Thomas would have wanted to end it. So many loose ends. Poor Keith. Poor Veronica. Poor Logan. I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S OVER.

  7. LinZ3214 on May 22nd, 2007 10:46 pm

Ugh!!! I can’t believe they let go of such an amazing show!! This was such a fantastic episode and I just don’t know what I am going to do on Tuesday night’s without this show. Stupid me for getting attached to a show that was too good for the dumb public and networks to get behind.

  8. sim on May 22nd, 2007 11:20 pm

Sad…that’s all I can say…so much left up in the air. The show was going in such a great direction for a next season to just end. It’s still hard to believe it won’t be coming back after seeing some of the shows that are still on – again…sad.

  9. BritniML on May 23rd, 2007 12:12 am

So what the hell? Why did it say season finale and not series! I am so sad that it is over! This was my all-time favorite show! Even over Greys… and thats alot! There was so much more to this story I cannot believe that they would drop it. The shows that they are replacing it with do not sound nearly as great as V.M.

    I am so sad!

  10. JD on May 23rd, 2007 12:47 am

WOW. What a sad day indeed. All I really wanted was closure. I just really wish they wouldn’t have ended on a cliff hanger. I know Rob Thomas(great inside joke btw) said that he didn’t want to make it easy for CW to cancel VM by giving them a series finale but still. One thing I am happy about and I might be a minority is that Veronica did not get back with Logan. While I think they were cute when they first started dating, I really think Veronica deserved better. He was really passive-aggressive and they were always having problems. I’m not a shipper of any one couple but it is clear as day that Piz treated her better than Logan and had a much sweeter demeanor than Logan. That might just be the girl in me that loves geeks and good guys but I really don’ t think I’m wrong in saying that they were cute together(the chemistry didn’t hurt either). I guess it doesn’t matter because It’s over and now it can live forever in our dvd box sets. Today is a sad day indeed.

Where was this show for the last 18 episodes. At least the show went out feeling like the show that it was. I seriously debated even tuning in. I’m glad I did. Now I wish there was more. I hope the find a way to tie up all the loose ends.

Also what was with the CW pushing this as the SEASON finale and not SERIES. Why get my hopes up when you killed the show??

  12. Min on May 23rd, 2007 7:34 am

Ok Kath pointed out the call back to The Office with that’s what she said but I think it was in the second episode where Dick goes up to Logan and does the fist thing and does the little explosion afterwards. Did anyone else catch that? I was definitely thinking Benihana Christmas when I saw him do that.

  13. Min on May 23rd, 2007 7:38 am

Ok Kath pointed out the That’s What She Said line in episode one but did anyone else catch the second reference or what I thought was anyways. Dick goes up to Logan and does the first thing with a little explosion noise afterwards. I was really thinking Benihana Christmas. I loved the finale however, we’re left kind of hanging with everything at the end and what was up with CW promoting it as the season finale thats just cruel and unusual punishment to tease us VM fans like that.

  14. Thursday Morning on May 23rd, 2007 7:41 am

Ok, according to Ausiello and Kristin, the reason why it said season finale was because they techincally have until June 15th to make the decision to whether or not pick VM up as a mid season starter. Even though its highly unlikely, 7th Heaven did get another season at the 11th hour.

I cried. Literally cried last night. So much that Rob couldn’t do…LoVe wasn’t resolved, looks like Veronica’s involvement with the Kane family cost him his sheriff’s job, AGAIN (oh the irony), didn’t even get to see what ends up wtih Mac, Wallance, Weevil (and that dang machine!), and Piz.

I seriously felt empty last night when the credits rolled. Granted, I thought the first hour was slow, but the last hour, pulling out all the stops and bringing back Clarence (yay!) and daddy Kane….I was seriously ready for Duncan to come out of the shadows.

There were some hit or miss moments, but at this point in my grief, I couldn’t begin to list them off….

  15. kilwiggle7 on May 23rd, 2007 8:29 am

When the credits began to roll, I was in shock… I didn’t know what to say or do. I admire Rob Thomas’s vision to make it difficult for VM to be canceled, but given everything that happened last night, I just wish we had a little more closure.

Is there anything we can do- short of a huge miracle to get a few more episodes? A half-season pick-up would even be ideal…

  16. Thursday Morning on May 23rd, 2007 8:41 am

Well, 7th Heaven got that miracle last year…maybe the response Dawn is receiving now will influence her. But if you read Kristin’s article today, she hears its done done. And apparently the reason why Dawn is taking her time with the announcement is to heed off angry fans. Like we are going to forget between now and June 15th?!?

At first I thought Dawn was cool. Now, I dislike her very much. Please, give Beauty and the Geek another chance (and apparently there is a date a farmer show? huh?), but get rid of the highest quality written show you have. The only one that had wide critical acclaim. The only show that doesn’t make you look like a bunch of losers who cater only to the younger crowd. Please, give OTH another chance. It seems shows like V Mars and Everwood, GREAT shows, aren’t your fortay.

  17. kilwiggle7 on May 23rd, 2007 9:07 am

It’s the shows that make teens look like all they do is have sex and party that get picked up, yet when shows actually make a female a strong character with morals and values, it gets shut down. (Don’t get me wrong, i was an OTH fan, but that’s before I found the awesomeness of VM)

granted, the ratings were worse for VM than for OTH, etc. and since that is the case, is that indicative of where this world is heading?

May 22nd is a day that will go down in the books as a day of grieveing for me… Every year, I’m going to remember the sadness i felt…

  18. Mannie on May 23rd, 2007 9:46 am

Unless VM pulls the numbers the 7th Heaven “Series” finale pulled in that year, it will not be picked up by CW, and since they didn’t call it the series finale, I doubt it will. I’d rather know this is definately the last episode (like I did for GG) than not know. That makes me even angrier, so I don’t know that that idiot in charge of The Cancellation Waiting network thinks she’s doing not making fans angry.

  19. Jenintx on May 23rd, 2007 10:13 am

Hmm, I have very mixed emotions about last nights episodes. I enjoyed it while I watched, but the minute it was over I felt sad and kinda depressed. Freakin CW, not letting me know what happens to V, Keith, Logan, Wallace, Mac, Piz, hell even Dick and Parker. It worked wonderfully as a season finale, but really crappy as a series finale. Don’t think I’ll ever have faith in the CW to watch another of there shows even if it’s quality(heck, especially if it’s quality) for fear of exactly this sort of crap happening. Finales are supposed to leave you happy(The Office) or on edge (I liked Ugly Betty’s) but this is just…so…sad.

  20. kilwiggle7 on May 23rd, 2007 11:29 am

Ausiello is reporting that Rob Thomas would be up for a movie version of a VM ending… I’d totally go see that… let’s make tons of comments on his page to help this prospect along… i’ll try anything at this point!

  21. Brianna on May 23rd, 2007 4:05 pm

Personally I didn’t like the series finale. The ending feels like there are so many loose ends to tie up. I guess they are going for “a real life doesn’t end after two years with happy ending” thing but i still didnt like the unresolved issues thing. Just like Gilmore Girls. tsk, tsk,CW.

  22. kilwiggle7 on May 23rd, 2007 4:50 pm

It is tsk, tsk CW- not VM or GG writers or cast, etc… the loose endings is because the CW doesn’t cater to the shows it has on now. It screws over the viewers, plain and simple.

  23. Dillynjtx on May 24th, 2007 12:27 am

I DON’T UNDERSTAND!!! THERE ARE TOO MANY LOOSE ENDS!!!! Why is it over? it just doesn’t make any sense…is it because of me not being able to tune in on Tuesday nights? Look i’m sorry ok! I’m a very busy nursing student, i usually watched the episodes online in the middle of the night after studying for my anatomy class….LOOK I’M SORRY OK!!! Please come back!
    PPPUUUUUHHHH–LLLLEEEEAAASSSEEE!!!
it’s one of my only escapes from school

  24. Theresa on May 24th, 2007 2:06 am

I am sooooo about this movie finale idea. That would almost appease the deep sadness caused by the lack of resolution in the final episode and the cancellation of this awesome show. What can we do to promote this idea?!!!

  25. webMistress on May 27th, 2007 1:41 pm

I would love to see a VM movie. See my take on the finale at http://mytvmusings.com/2007/05/27/veronica-mars-series-finale/

  26. Harprit on September 30th, 2007 3:43 am

WHY???? It’s September and I’m sitting here all excited and waiting for the new season of Veronica Mars…only to learn that it ended for all time last season! How did this happen?? I love this show more than ANY other and they go and cancel it??? I don’t understand it, I really don’t. All i can ask is why? WHY?
