When Will My Shows Be Back After the Strike?

February 8, 2008 by

When Will My Shows Be Back After the Strike?During this weekend’s WGA meeting, the WGA board members will be talking to the guild members about the tentative deal they have worked out with the AMPTP to end 3+ long writers’ strike. Hopefully the deal will be a fair one and the writers will be back to work soon. But the end of the strike doesn’t mean the return of all our favorite shows. Some will return with new episodes this season, but many (including most of the newbies) won’t return until next September.

TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello put together a rather comprehensive list about the fate of some of the more popular shows on network TV. Of course all this information is for the most part speculation and some might change. But it’s a pretty good (informed) guess as to what’s going on with our favorite shows.

So if you’ve been asking ‘when will my shows be back after the strike’ then read on.

The two shows I want the most right now are Scrubs and Lost. Lost because of how awesome the new episodes are, and how badly I want to see the full season that Abrams et al. have planned.
Scrubs has always been treated like an unwanted stepchild by NBC (and I understand their reasoning, but it’s still aggravating). I don’t understand why the four pre-strike episodes have yet to be scheduled (at one time they were, and then NBC pulled them from the schedule!). And Bill Lawrence, even though he is devoted to giving us a finale of some sort, is not certain that Silverman will let him give the show its intended finish.
It also sucks that next week’s FNL could be the last one ever.
I don’t know why I’m not more excited for Office. I know I’ll enjoy them when I get them. But I hope it isn’t on at the same time as Lost. That would suck.

I’m worried about Friday Night Lights! Can you have or do you need to have a Save the Show post with some advice on what we can do? I can wait for the other shows (it is hard), but I would be crushed if FNL gets canceled! I know I’m not the only one!!!

Can I just say how excited I was to see “No new episodes. Ever.” of Bionic Woman?!?! Hee!

I don’t know, this list stresses me out a little bit, especially with a couple of favorites that are in their last season (Smallville, Scrubs), and as Billiam pointed out, I want them to be able to finish how they want to.

And all of these shows with futures TBD … also stress me out. I am too emotionally involved!!!! But at least I’ve come to the right place to let it out. 🙂

[…] With the WGA strike nearing the end, the big question now is what will this mean for the remainder of the TV season.  There’s been all kinds of speculation about which shows will and won’t return this year with new episodes.  Favorites like THE OFFICE and 30 ROCK will definitely be back and may have as many as ten new episodes.  Dramas like GREY’S ANATOMY and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES have also confirmed new eps for this season.  But not all the shows will be back. Check out this list to get a sense as to where some shows might end up after the strike: When Will My Shows Be Back After the Strike? […]

If this is the last season of Scrubs and ER, they should go out with a big blitz-advertising bang! The traditional “season” shouldn’t matter because they don’t have to worry about coming back in the fall and having a short off-season. Push the season into June to give the fans a proper send-off after all of our years of dedication. Of course, that won’t happen since everyone has their summer haitus movies to shoot and it would overlap their schedules. But these actors need to honor the shows that made them famous and in the position to move onto movies at all.
