How I Met Your Mother Recap

Things pick up as we left them last week with Marshall, Ted, Barney and Robin sitting in McClaren’s (surprise surprise) laughing and having a few beverages. Robin heads out, and the boys quickly congratulate Marshall on checking out her ass as she left – a sign he is starting to move on from Lily. Even Robin is excited about the news..

Ted: Marshall was checking out your ass.
Robin: Thanks, I felt like I was having a bad ass day.

You know who else thinks Robin has a great ass? Lily. Yup, Lily is back in New York and at a stunned Robin’s apartment. So much has happened, so much drama, and Robin gets right to it. She looks Lily right in they eyes and tells her…that she loves her new dark hair. [GMMR sidenote: I LOVE her new hair color…she looks fab]

Lily and Robin go apartment hunting and Lily shares all the tales of her wonderful time in San Francisco. Things seem a bit fishy, because really could everything have been that good? Hmmm.

Barney decides that it’s time he takes Marshall out to meet some women. But Marshall’s a bit skeptical since he hasn’t been on the dating scene since he was 17. But Barney is determine to make this happen. At the bar, Barney leads off with the classic, “Haaaaave you met Marshall?” Much to Marshall’s dismay, Barney took the girl home.

And that my friends, seems to be the story of the weekend. Marshall finding the confidence to talk to a girl only to be completely cockblocked my Barney at ever turn. Whether it be through charm or even magic, these girls seem to forget Marshall and end up home with Barney.

Marshall gives Barney one last chance under the condition that Barney leave all of his tricks (magic or otherwise) behind. They try a new bar this time, a college bar, with the goal of picking up younger girls who would be impressed by their “maturity.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I mean come on, Barney has the maturity of a horny high school sophomore.

Barney strikes out right away with some cheesy “chemistry major” pick up line while Marshall though floundering, meets a girl that he instantly has chemistry with. She implies that she’d like to see him again.

Marshall freaks out, stuttering and babbling like an idiot. He should have given his phone number to her or gotten hers. Failure. Barney comes to the rescue and gets her number on Marshall’s behalf. But on the cab ride home, Bad Barney strikes again and decides that he too thought the girl was cute and doesn’t feel like handing the number over to Marshall.

Meanwhile, Robin tells Ted that Lily is back in town and that she appears to be happy with her life. As someone who has known Lily for a long time Ted thinks Lily is miserable and regrets her decision to leave Marshall. They place a wager on who Lily is being honest with. And the only way for them to get Lily to show her true emotions is to get her drunk. Tequila shots all around.

The drunkards are interupted when Lily gets a phone call saying she didn’t get the apartment she wanted. A hysterical Lily can’t seem to stop crying….over the apartment. But as we all know, Ted Mosby is pretty perceptive and it’s not long before Lily finally breaks and declares that the apartment is a metaphor for Marshall.

We painfully watch as Lily as comes clean about the huge mistake she made leaving the one man that she loved and completed her. All her fantastic San Fran stories were all nonsense…she hated San Fran. As it turns out, she was just babbling on and on about San Fran in the hopes that someone would bring up Marshall.

Lily finally admits that she wants him back. Ted says that Marshall will take her back in a heartbeat, but he demands that Lily be sure about what she wants. He won’t risk his best friend being hurt again.

Later that night, Marshall & Barney head out on a double date. It seems that the cute single college girl just happens to have a twin sister. Marshall is having fun, and really hitting it off with this girl. Well, until Barney tells Marshall to go home because the twins have agreed to a threesome with the Barnster. As it turns out, “agreed” is a bit subjective. Seems that Barney is the only one with threesome in mind.

As Marshall leaves the bar, he runs into Lily, thus a setup for the most heart wrenching moment of this season so far (and yes, this is only episode 2 but anyway). A tearful Lily begs Marshall to take her back . Marshall told her that she ripped his heart out and put him through hell for the past three months. He can’t take her back right now, as he needs time to find out who he is without Lily.

Our favorite comedy couple (next to Jim & Pam of course) decide that they need to take some time to talk and really catch up. They both seemed at peace with each other and where they are at the moment. Lily tells Marshall she will do anything to try to help correct things. Anything? Hmmm.

Tonight “anything” includes Lily storming into the bar and throwing a drink in Barney’s face all while screaming “You gave me Chlamydia you jerk.” The twins look on in horror. Not a minute later Lily returns sporting a a new hat and another drink that will eventually end up in Barney’s face…”you gave my twin sister chlamydia you jerk”. Hee. Giving chlamydia to one girl was one thing, but twins? Well, that’s too much for the blondes to take and they storm off. Well played Marshall…well played.

A special GMMR THANK YOU goes out to “Jim Mosby” for this week’s recap.  Stand up and take a bow “Jim”!!

Willow’s hair was AWESOME. Yeah, ok so her name is Alyson, but that dark hair brings back some fond memories of evil Willow back when she was all evil and sexy and ripping people’s skin off because the effed with her girlfriend. Good times.

I’m actually not a huge fan of the hair. I don’t DISlike it per se, but I liked it better before.

Lily and Marshall are definitely one of my favorite (non-ish) couples.

I liked her hair, it was cute. Then again i’m normally the sucker for brunettes.

And as gaggy as it is, I love Marshall/Lily and Ted/Robin. Though we all know Robin and Ted won’t last……and they still pale in comparison to my favorite (not yet-ish) couple haha.

Lastly, I’ll take my “bow” but, I can’t take all of the credit. GMMR deserves just as much or more credit 🙂

The hair WAS cute. Thought I was the only one who noticed. Alyson Hannigan’s real husband is going to be on the show soon, right? Alexis Denisof?
