Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls – GMMR Babble

Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars

Tuesday nights are all about the C-dub. The pairing of Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars has made this TV blogger a happy girl. And last night, both shows delivered stellar ep that had me squeeing all night.

Although we’ve got full episode recaps of both shows coming to GMMR this afternoon, I couldn’t resist not talking about them with you know. Hope you don’t mind. Think of this post as a GG and VM stream of consciouness (and by that I mean, don’t expect ANY quality writing ahead).

Ok, so Gilmore Girls…I am sorry but I am loving me some Christopher. He and Lorelai have incredible chemistry, and I personally think the maturity of their relationship has already surpassed that of Luke and Lor.

It’s nice to see Lorelai in a relationship where she can really be herself. To be honest, when she was with Luke there I never saw that spark that indicated that they were made for each other. But Chris and Lor? Well, as we say here in Boston, they are on fiyah!! Yes, this is about the time I duck and run for cover. I’m spoiled like 3 week old milk, so I know what’s up next for Luke and Chris, and I am crazy excited. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, and you want to be spoiled, click here. But I’m warning ya, it’s a big spoiler so be cautious)

So sweet of Logan to make an unexpected trip home. It was nice to see him and Rory reunited for the first time this season. Who knew that when cocky Logan Huntzberger showed up, he would be around for the long haul. Not me.

Jealous Rory was kind of cute to watch, but damn girl…you are editor of the Yale newspaper, I would think you could be a little more concise when making your point. Sometimes I feel that the writers go a bit far with the whole relentless chatter on Gilmore Girls. It’s almost as if they are saying “hey, this is what we are known for, better beat it with a dead horse”. And there is one quirk about Logan that always has bothered me. Whenever Rory is upset, he gives her this half grin that basically says “you are being ridiculous” – he’s done it before and I always find it a bit condescending. I kind of wanted to knee him in the groin. Oh, and dude, if you are having a serious discussion, find it in your heart to call her Rory. She’s not your kid sister, and the “Ace” is cute, but not all the time.

Over in Neptune, I was simply giddy over Veronica Mars. I dare you to find more witty dialogue in all of TV. Come on…show me. I was taking notes for my recap and there were about 20 good quotes I wanted to include from last night.

Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas) continues to steal every scene he is in. Dick may just be one of my favorite TV characters of all time. He straight out cracks me up, and you have to wonder how this kid makes it through life being that dumb.

Kristen Bell was her usual brilliant self last night – this chick is going to be taking home an Oscar someday, and we are going to be the ones saying “we knew her when”. Kristen is never false in her portrayal of Veronica, and she easily carries the whole show on the weight on her little itty bitty shoulders.

Jason Dohring…well there isn’t much I can say about Jason Dohring other than he is one of the most underrated actors on TV today. Seriously?! Take him out of Veronica Mars and throw him on a show on one of the main networks and he’d be a HUGE….HUGE star. Logan is so tortured. He wants to be a certain man, but it seems the harder he tries, the more life spits in his face. He’s going to break soon, and when he does he just might be beyond repair.

Oh and the sweetness of having the Logan/Logan crossover?! Icing on the cake. Matt Czuchry (Logan Huntzberger on Gilmore Girls), and Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls) played off each other with such ease. I’m sad to know that Czuchry’s role was a one shot deal. I mean, with Logan H. in London, he’s not in all that many scenes. Can’t he spend just a little more time in Neptune? Pretty please?

Ok…so I’m done with this nonsensical and poorly written babble. But I just had to talk about the shows with all of you. Ok…ready? Your turn…and GO!!

I thought Logan H would be a passing fad as well. I loved/hated him at first but he’s definitely grown on me. For a long time I was rooting for Rory to get with that Matt (I think?) character. The one she had the movie marathon with.

As for VM…I’m really not satisfied with the use of the secondary characters this season. It’s one thing to leave someone out of the ocassional episode for budgetary reasons but to have both Wallace and Mac show up for less than a minute in last night’s episode was just not fair. It’s a big fat tease and I hate that.

Other than that, I’m loving it of course. 😉 Though…and I never ever thought I’d say this…I wish they’d show a little less of the Veronica/Logan relationship. I don’t want it to get stale too quickly.

And I think I speak for everyone when I say “We want more Dick!”

    *cough* 😉

Actually, now that I think about it, I’m not even sure Mac was in the ep last night. Maybe her appearance was so fleeting it was completely forgettable. Not that it’s her fault…she’s awesome. 🙂

Last night’s GG was the funniest episode since season five. So many funny lines. The ending scene with them in the car was precious and hilarious. This episode was a great mix of everything that makes GG great: a little bit of town hijinks, plenty of Richard & Emily, limited Rory whining, great Lor & Ror convo, and zero turtle.

Meanwhile, VM was back in full form since she actually cared about the big mystery this week and Keith had a great B-plot, but there was no Mac, Wallace or Lamb again. I loved Logan’s smile while Keith and Veronica “fought”.

Ahh can’t read can’t read…want to but I missed VM last night due to GG recaping. I can’t believe that GG Spoiler! WOW!

GG was so good last night!! I’m actually digging the whole Chris/Lor storyline. I really love their chemistry. It was also neat how excited Emily and Richard were over the pairing Chris and Lor. Emily had me laughing pretty hard last night. I think DR is doing a great job writing. The more the season progresses the more and more it feels like the Gilmore Girls of seasons past.

Veronica! Loving this season. But I agree with Sus, not enough Wallace and Mac. So what if V has a boyfriend, she should still have time to hang with Wallace and hack into computers with Mac. I, too, wish Matt C. could have stuck around Neptune a little while longer. I think he was great as Logans half bro, even if he was faking it!

There’s too many characters on VM to show them all at once. We got Piz, Wallace and Mac in the beginning and now we’ve gotten more Dick and Weevil. As long as I get Veronica, Logan and Keith I’m good. Actually, as long as I get Veronica I’m good 😉 I felt so bad for Logan this episode. The poor guy just wants a family so bad.

I think this was the best episode this season – it just wasn’t quite “right” up till now. I’m a big fan of Luke and Lorelai, but that doesn’t mean I need them to be together. It’s sort of like Jim and Pam – as much as I want them together, I know the show will be 10-times better while they’re apart. And by apart I don’t mean in different states – that needs to change soon! Okay, so I’ll stop tangenting now. Yeah. I always liked Chris and Lorelai’s chemistry and I’m enjoying their stab at a mature adult relationship. Those last few moments of the episode in the car were perfect. Just perfect.
