So I Just Got Off the Phone with John Krasinski….

So I Just Got Off the Phone with John Krasinski....

Did that come off casual enough, because that’s what I’m going for!! I’m kind of freaking out right now…what a thrill!!

Sometimes it doesn’t suck to be a TV blogger. Especially when you get to talk to one of your favorite actors, on a random Thursday night, just as you are watching him on TV. Well that’s exactly what happened tonight when I got to chat briefly with John Krasinski of The Office.

Now any loyal GMMR reader knows that John is my #1 TV boyfriend and I love him dearly with all my heart. But in all honestly, I really do believe that he is an amazingly talented actor who is on the verge on blowing up and taking over Hollywood. John is such an important part of why The Office is my favorite show, and why the show is receiving the attention and accolades it so richly deserves. Ok, ok, enough gushing on to the details.

Actually, wait, before I go any further, I have to give the world’s BIGGEST shout out to my friend Lauren (aka Geek Cheek/Blondesheep) for making this all happen. As some of you might now, Lauren came along with me last week to The Rachel Ray Show, and if it wasn’t for Lauren I would have never met Jenna Fischer. She was the one that told Jenna I was in the audience which prompted Jenna to come over and chat. And now exactly one week later, Lauren comes through again, but this time she’s hooking me up with JKras. I owe you…so big!! Last Thursday Pam, this Thursday Jim..yeah, it’s been a good week.

Lauren was kind of enough to set the scene for us. Here’s her recap of what went down…
Lauren was attending JEST FEST ’06 in NYC during which John was doing a reading from David Foster Wallace’s work.

Audio clip of John’s reading | Watch video from John’s appearance at JEST FEST ’06

She got a chance to talk to him for a few about “Brief Interview with Hideous Men” and his upcoming film adaptation. So she’s chatting with him…and then:

Lauren: I’m friends with Kathie from Give Me My Remote, and I had to say hi to you from her.

John: Oh my god, Kath is amazing. Do you have her email? I’d really like to talk to her.

Lauren: Well, do you want to talk to her. I can call her. (I had this all planned out ahead of time, I was going to get John to talk to Kath)

John: Yeah, but there are all these people waiting. Oh! I can probably just get to her through the site.

Lauren: (knowing that Kath would much rather John have her address in his hot big hand) I can write it down for you.

John opens to the back cover of his copy of BIWHM and has me write Kath’s email address right there.
So then I realized that the line wasn’t that long. That there was only about one person left, so I decided that I would go for it. I called Kath, first to make sure that I had her email right, and to tell her that John had asked for it. Then I asked, “Do you want to talk to him?” And we all know what that answer is. So I waited while John talked to the last fan, and then to DFW’s agent, then his editor, and then he said to them, “Here, I’ll walk you out.” I made my move, “John!” I said, “Would you . . ” [holding out the phone]. Then John says, “Is it Kath?” I nod, and then…

…that’s where I pick up the story. Ok, so by now I’ve had a minute or two to realize that I was moments away from talking to John Krasinski. Just enough time to make sure I was recording the call on my cell. I learned from my encounter with Jenna last week that as amped up as I was I wasn’t going to remember a damn thing. I hope John doesn’t mind that I recorded the call….oh shoot [/kevin]. I debated posting the full transcript because (1) I didn’t know if it was a little too stalkerish to do so and (2) because he said a lot of nice things about GMMR and frankly, I felt weird posting it. But in the end, I had to share it with you all, so here we go…

    John: Kaaaaaaath!

GMMR: Jooooohn! How the hell are ya? (yeah, I’m a Masshole through and through…I start off my conversation with JKras by swearing)

John: I am doing great. How the hell are you?

GMMR: I’m doing fantastic. I’m actually online right now hosting a LIVE “Office” chat for the East Coast kids.

John: No way? Unbelievable. Please say ‘hi’ to everybody for me.

GMMR: Will do. I really can’t believe I’m talking to you.

John: You totally rock! And your site totally rocks. And at any moment if you think what you are doing is in vain, or you aren’t sure that you should be working so hard at it, keep working, keep going – please know that we all love it so much.

GMMR: Wow! Thank you so much. That means a lot to me.

John: I’m so impressed at how much you care, and you are so nice to us, and we all know it. All of us on set. So thank you!

GMMR: AW. Thanks. I’ve actually been emailing (John’s publicist) about getting on your schedule for an interview, but I know you’ve been really busy lately. But I’m in NY a lot, and of course I live in Newton so…

John: Yeah, how cool. I knew you were there in Newton. Yeah, sorry, right now it’s a little crazy because I’m filming this movie and I have no idea what the hell I’m doing..[laughs] Just kidding. It’s been really, really fun.

GMMR: It’s going to be amazing. I’m so looking forward to it, and of course we’ll be following it on GMMR.

John: Really? Thank you SO [/jim] much. And yeah, if there is anything you ever need – to talk or an interview for the website or something, just let me know and I’m happy to help out. You’ve done so much for us, that I want to do anything to help you out.

GMMR: Thank you so much. That’s really nice of you. This is such a thrill.

John: And please say hi to everyone online for me. Everybody is so great! You really have no idea of how much of a difference you are making – so hopefully I’m telling you right now [laughs]
GMMR: That’s so great to hear. So maybe I’ll see you around Newton sometime.

John: Yeah, absolutely. Kath, have a GREAT [/jim] night

    GMMR: You too.

    John: Goodnight

    GMMR: Good night

In the words of William M. Joel…”and so it goes”. Talking to John was just incredible. Everyone involved with The Office is so kind and so appreciative of their fans. THEY are the reason that we are so invested in the show. It’s the reason that I’m so compelled to promote the show in any way I can. My interview with John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer is what help to put GMMR on the map, and is the reason that I have met so many great people and have had so many wonderful experiences over the past year. So thanks to the Dunder Mifflinites. Ok, now I’m off to listen to John’s voice as I drift off to sleep…kidding, kidding. Kinda. Here’s to hoping he puts my email address to good use.

Geez Kath – mutual love fest! 🙂 And you ARE awesome for all the time and effort you put into this site for us fans.

  20. GeekCheek on November 17th, 2006 2:34 am

And as this was going on, I was turning into a puddle watching John talk to Kathie on my phone. Although, I’m kind of feeling like a bridesmaid, here. I mean, yeah, they all remember Kathie, but never the girl that actually facilitated the convo. But seriously, I think the most genuine guy ever. Not fake at all. At least seemed interested in what I had to say–maybe because it was about his film and not, OMG I love you as Jim! Not that I don’t, but you know . . .

  21. StArZz923 on November 17th, 2006 2:39 am

OMG! I am so happy for you! I know I don’t post very often, but I’m a long time reader/fan of your blog, and as soon as I read the headline I got super super excited. Seriously, I couldn’t have been more excited even if it was me who got to talk to John Krasinski. Congrats, and may it be the first of many phone calls 😉

  22. Ronald Rios on November 17th, 2006 2:40 am

    daaaaammmmmmmn!

    Damn! Awesome!

    Daaaaaamn!

I met J Casablancas once, and we talk some shit for 15 minutes, and I know what the HELL you feel now!

  23. Julie on November 17th, 2006 3:16 am

I could not be happier for you. John seems like a prince of a guy, and I’m SO glad you got to connect with him after all the awesome coverage you give The Office.

Plus, way to go, GeekCheek, for bringing it all together!

  24. Kris on November 17th, 2006 3:49 am

    Holy God [/Pam].

  25. HealthcareHottie on November 17th, 2006 4:35 am

Damn GMMR & GeekCheek! first Jenna & then John, let us know when your feet start touching the ground again.

You seriously deserve it for all your time and effort in keeping us all up to date on our favorite show.

  26. GeekCheek on November 17th, 2006 4:53 am

I’m going to be paying for it tomorrow, wait, this morning, since i have to get up for work in 2 hours.

  27. GeekCheek on November 17th, 2006 5:00 am

I think that this is my favorite part, and when I turned into mush:

John: You totally rock! And your site totally rocks. And at any moment if you think what you are doing is in vain, or you aren’t sure that you should be working so hard at it, keep working, keep going – please know that we all love it so much.

I just stood there in awe, because as awesome as it is to read it, it was so great to hear him say it!

It is so important to have someone tell you that what you do matters, so to know that I was helping to let Kathie know that she matters is oh so special.

  28. Angelica on November 17th, 2006 5:22 am

As I am sure many are a wee bit jealous of your encounters over the last week, you totally deserve them because you keep the rest of us Office addicts connected and informed! Now we are wondering, who do you get to meet next? Congratulations and thank you 😉

  29. Jo on November 17th, 2006 7:59 am

I’ve never posted before but have read (and loved!) the site long enough to know how much of a thrill this must have been for you, and you totally deserve it. Thanks for all your hard work maintaining GMMR…..I’m so pleased that you’re now reaping the benefits!

  30. Sus on November 17th, 2006 8:30 am

Holy Mother of God, I am whorish with envy. I would have been completely incoherent the whole time.

You know, that’s probably the first time Holy Mother, God, and whorish have been used in the same sentence. 😉

  31. Amy on November 17th, 2006 9:20 am

So checking your site is the first thing on mind this morning after your big tease last night… wow… I am so happy for you! You have such a funny, warm, informative site, and you are in part responsible for my Office addiction.

So…how wonderfully delicious does his voice actually sound??

  32. jenny on November 17th, 2006 9:42 am

You rock. That’s it. That’s all that needs to be said.

  33. GMMR on November 17th, 2006 9:45 am

Sigh…still reliving it all. I still can’t get over how kind he was to talk to me.

  34. Jim Mosby on November 17th, 2006 10:12 am

    🙂 hehe. love it.

  35. Jane on November 17th, 2006 10:36 am

I was right behind Lauren on the line, and we were chatting. I actually took a pic of her and John. He really is the sweetest guy. You know how you think that celebrities won’t be just as great in person? He totally is. Cute, funny, the whole shebang. I’m glad Kath got to talk to him too. It wouldn’t have felt right is she weren’t involved in some way!

  36. majandra on November 17th, 2006 11:23 am

How sweet! And just an FYI, the GMMR interview was the first I ever read from the show. So, you did very much introduce a lot of fans to how awesome these two are as people, not just as characters on a tv show.
Plus, you’re a fan just like us so when I saw Pam mention you in her blog I totally squeed on your behalf.
Plus ALSO, you personally converted a brand new VM fan *points thumbs at self* “This Girl!” *crazed look on face*

  37. She on November 17th, 2006 11:33 am

Okay, he’s adorable, and wonderful and that’s no surprise.

YOU transcribed it! How frakking generous is that? Thank you so much.

  38. Emily on November 17th, 2006 12:18 pm

WOW!!!! What a totally sweet guy…like he could be anything but. Thanks, Kath for sharing your amazing experience! And thanks, Lauren or arranging it!

This is such a great site. I enjoy visiting it everyday. It was the first “Office” site I found and have been addicted ever since. Thanks for all your hard work.

Here’s to more Dunder Mifflin encounters…

  39. Katie on November 17th, 2006 1:04 pm

Man oh man oh man….. 😉

What’s really wonderful is how much the actors truly appreciate what the internet (GMMR, OfficeTally, NorthernAttack, MySpace, etc.) has done for the show. They understand that they have a really smart, funny audience full of real people, not some ambiguous viewing population they only know as a number. The best thing is that they are truly genuine about gratitude and knowing that makes watching the show even better.

  40. LaLa on November 17th, 2006 4:17 pm

Go GeekCheek for having the guts and determination to make this thing happen!

And congrats Kath on FINALLY getting to talk to him! I’m so happy for you! And all the nice things he said just shows what a great guy John is, wow. All The Office actors are so humble and sincerely grateful to the fans, and that just makes me love them more! 🙂

  41. Carly on November 17th, 2006 4:57 pm

I am… JEALOUS!! Haha! Maybe your next “date” with your #1 TV boyfriend will be… on speakerphone! EEE!!!!! Lucky duck. I wouldn’t even had said anything… I would just squeak and hang up. YOU ARE MY HERO!

  42. Becky on November 17th, 2006 5:29 pm

Thank you GMMR for turning so many people onto the Office. I think you’ve really helped the show in more ways then you’d realize.

I could never keep my composure if I all of a sudden learned I would be talking to John Krasinski in about a minute. Here’s to hoping you two stay in touch and you can get us some juicy details on BIWHM!

  43. sabrina on November 17th, 2006 5:38 pm

oh you lucky lucky person!! I kinda hate you right now.

John seemed so nice! That must of been surreal. I bet it hasn’t sunked in yet huh?

  44. Jen on November 17th, 2006 5:52 pm

HOLY COW!!! He seems so nice, omg, I am so jealous of you! I don’t think I know what I would do if I had the chance to talk to him….

great job GMMR, you so deserve it, all of your hard work blogging for all of us!

  45. Stephanie on November 17th, 2006 7:10 pm

I’m super impressed you were able to keep it together for your first real chat with your TV boyfriend! Congrats! Enjoy replaying it! 😉 Thanks for the details.

  46. GeekCheek on November 17th, 2006 9:36 pm

Sooooo . . . upon reading this for the umpteenth time, I feel that what I did seems a little stalkery. Waiting for an actor/writer/director after a book reading so that he can talk to your friend on the phone. That’s a bit creepy.

Then again, maybe it’s just the post-Jest Fest hangover that I’m nursing right now–i.e. went to the reading last night so had to do work when I got home and only got two hours of sleep before work this morn.

  47. Lauren on November 19th, 2006 1:51 pm

Geez…Kathie and GeekCheek! You guys are so lucky. John Krasinski sounds like such a sweetheart! Thanks for all of your awesome info on the office!!!

  48. Shannon on November 19th, 2006 9:34 pm

Wow! That is so great! He seems just as nice as I always thought he would be. Congrats Kathie on getting to talk to John and GeekCheek on getting to meet him!

  49. Deb on November 20th, 2006 4:25 pm

GMMR….I am so happy for you! Just getting a chance to read all this now and I can’t believe it!!!
    NICE WORK!! CONGA-RATS!

  50. Leslie on November 20th, 2006 5:24 pm

John sounds like a sincerely nice guy! That is wonderful that he called you! I love the show – what an incredible cast.

  51. duckyxdale on November 20th, 2006 11:47 pm

You can so tell I’ve been so out of it lately… I’m Kath’s BFF and I didn’t even know this happened! My life can suck right now but damn girl this is amazing!

Can’t wait to see you in a few so you can share the whole story in the only way it should be told… with you freaking out sitting next to me and almost dying reliving the event!

Glad you didn’t just blurt out: “I’LL HAVE YOUR BABIES!”

  52. GMMR on November 20th, 2006 11:50 pm

You know my phone call with JKras didn’t really happen until I get to share it with YOU my love!!!

And you know me SOOO well. Of course I said “I’ll have your babies”…but I thought it best to leave that embarrassing outburst out of the transcript!!

  53. Karen on November 22nd, 2006 8:15 am

So any news on the filming of Hideous Men? Are they filming in NYC?

  54. GMMR on November 22nd, 2006 8:20 am

Yes, they are filming in NYC, but that’s all I know. Sorry. I should have asked him more. In hindsight there are about a million things I would have said/asked him, but the call was quick….too quick 🙂
