Monday Night TV Redux - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Monday Night TV Redux

January 23, 2007 by

Monday night is becoming like a second third job. There were so many quality shows on last night. We had the winter premieres of Heroes, Prison Break and Studio 60 as well as 24 and How I Met Your Mother. We’ve got full on recaps coming your way for most of shows so if you missed them, no worries – we’ll hook you up.

Warning, what you are about to read is my “I woke up too early and can’t fall back to sleep so I thought I would jump online and blog about what I watched on TV last night” babble. You may never get these moments back so read at your own risk.

Heroes…

I haven’t been able to find the time to catch up on Heroes, and I’m wondering if I should really try. It feels like more of a chore at this point. I haven’t completely given up on it yet. I have a few days off at the beginning of February, so I will try my best. I supposed I could just go back and read all of Julie’s Heroes Recaps, but with the show like that, I’m thinking I should put forth my best effort that actually see it on TV, right?

24…

Don’t shoot me but I haven’t caught up on the first 2 eps yet, so I had to TiNo this one until the weekend. I know, I know, I was supposed to catch up on 24 this past weekend, but despite the amount of time I spend watching TV, I do have friends and a life and I was busy most of the weekend. I will watch though. I promise.

Prison Break…

You already know that I liked this one since I praised it the other day. Michelle has a Prison Break recap which I will post in just a few minutes. I was bummed not to see Tequila Tancredi, but I know what to expect in coming eps, and believe me kids, it’s GOOD. Dude, how creeped out were you with the T-Bag scenes, ew…just ew. You know how actors are sometimes afraid they are going to get typecast for a role? Robert Knepper (T-Bag) has got to be a little worried about that, right? I mean he plays the lowest form of humanity so well…and with such an extensive vocabulary. He must have done well on his SATs. Stedman is dead, and to be honest I didn’t see that coming. I thought he would have a bigger role this season.

Ok here’s my question. If Steadman didn’t kill himself and went to the press and admitted everything. Lincoln didn’t kill him, and there was an elaborate government conspiracy…the works. Wouldn’t Michael and Lincoln still be screwed? They’d be sent back to prison for years and years (many more than Michael was probably originally given). Despite his good intentions, Michael did in fact commit a crime to get him into prison in the first place. And then he assaulted the Warden and helped murders and rapists escape jail. Even with Linc cleared of murder, they would both serve some serious jail time. This is what I stay awake thinking about.

HIMYM and Studio 60 babble after the jump

How I Met Your Mother…

This was one the weakest eps I seen from a normally hilarious show. Of course this is also the week that I was begging my friend Steph to give it another shot (she had seen it in S1 and didn’t like it). Let’s hope she decided not to listen to me this week. I will say that the fangirl in me didn’t mind seeing a half naked Barnibus Stinson. Who knew Doogie would have turned out so hot. The Ted storyline was boring, as are most of the storylines where we have to see Ted at work. Good things happen at the bar, just keep them at the bar. Jim Mosby will be around later today with a recap.

Studio 60…

No apologies from me…I flat out love this show. I love the characters, I love the setting, and I love that they are focusing a little less on the “Studio 60” show and more on the romantic comedy side of things. That being said, I think there is ZERO chemistry between Harriet and Matt. The NBC promo department is working hard to shove this ‘ship down out throats but I’m just not buying it. I need to understand what they were like when they were a couple to really understand their interactions now. Matt just seems desperate.

Speaking of desperate, wow Danny has gone a bit overboard with this whole Jordan crush thing. The idea of getting “recommendations” from big wigs from Hollywood and beyond is charming…in theory. My heart deflated when Jordan confronted Danny and told him how embarrassed she was and how inappropriate it was seeing that she is his boss, but I really couldn’t hold it against her. Danny is borderline creepy. But I’ll tell ya, watching those scenes, I couldn’t help but think of the years and years Josh Lyman wasted by not pursuing Donna Moss earlier, and it was nice to see “Josh” be so aggressive.

Bring me MORE MORE MORE Tom and Lucy. Those two are too cute for words. I’m going to be bummed to see their faces when they realize that their first date has already been ruined by Jack promising Tom as the date of McCow’s daughter. Yeah, didn’t we already have that storyline not too long ago. Jack wants something from McCow (I dont’ know his name so that’s what I’m calling him) and the only way to get it is to ensure that his college-aged daughter has some quality time with Tom Jeeter. Let’s come up with something else, alright Mr. Sorkin? But more Tom and Lucky dates in the future would be great. And am I crazy but doesn’t Nate Corrdry (Tom) remind you a little bit of Martin Freeman (Tim from The Office UK)? Maybe it’s just me projecting, but I think I see it.

Ok I’m done now…recaps are on their way. Read them, love them, comment on them.

Haha, when he was asking her out, I thought the exact same thing! They have the same style hair, though Tom’s a little taller than Tim. O and look, even their names are similar. I love her on this show.

GMMR please don’t give up on Heroes. It really is an amazing show.

Wow… you were a lot nicer to Studio 60 than you were to HIMYM. Neither one impressed last night, and both episodes were weaker than the show had been in December, but at least HIMYM delivered some solid laughs. Then again, my biggest problem with Studio 60 is Jordan and for some reason I seem to be the only person watching the show who doesn’t like her. And a big YES to more Tom and Lucy – too cute!

does dead steadman mean more Thatcher Grey? that’s all i could think about last night.

Okay, I love Heroes, but sometimes…it drags. I won’t lie. This was another episode where not a lot happens. Although I loved the stuff with Hiro and the sword.

Loved seeing your thoughts on all these shows. I agree that you shouldn’t give up on Heroes. I’m in the same situation with 24. I still have to catch up on last Monday’s episodes in addition to last night’s, but hopefully I will do that this weekend. I wasn’t too crazy about HIMYM either last night and wished that I had caught Everybody Hates Chris instead; though I do usually love HIMYM. However, I could not get back into Studio 60 last night – I don’t get the whole Jordan/Danny storyline. I think the show just wants to pair everybody up.

I agree that HIMYM was not at its finest last night. I worry that the show has lost some of its greatness now that Ted and Robin are together, even though we all know Future Ted does not end up with Robin. So I want the dynamic of Ted looking for Ms. Right back, but I don’t want Ted and Robin to be finished.

And while I’m on the subject of wishes, I’d like Lily to be a redhead again. The black hair makes me think of “Evil Willow” from Hannigan’s Buffy days.

I am probably the only one, but I’m really into the Danny / Jordan story on Studio 60 – I was torn last night at Danny’s “No” both creepy, but still made me heart go all flip-floppy because he’s a persistent bugger.

It was a shame about HIMYM – because the clips I’d seen made it look hilarious, but yet… it wasn’t so great after all.

I have not watched last nights ep of Studio 60 yet.
But so glad there are other fans out there.
I agree about Matt and Harriett’s chemistry. Non-existant, very brother/sister.
In fact, I am not crazy about Harriet in general (sorry TNK, I know you love her). I just don’t think Sarah P is funny. But characters can grow on you, so who knows where this is going.

Ya know what? There is too much good TV to watch on Monday nights. PB, Heroes, 24, Studio 60, and HIMYM are all noteworthy (although if HIMYM wants me to watch it enough to get into it, it’s going to have to move to a new night).
I was busy last night, but taped PB and 24 and am getting Heroes from the internet (it’s really cool of NBC.com to put it online). In the interest of also having a life, I think I probably am going to stop watching Studio 60, because I consider it to be good but not great. It just never gets me very excited. I would be interested in reading a recap though!

So, GMMR, you don’t have to watch every show on TV. And so I will forgive you for not watching Heroes.
After all, whenever you commit to watching a full season of an hour-long show, you give up approximately one day out of your life to that TV show.

I thought there were some good parts to Studio 60 last night. I liked the boardroom scene; Jack calling that guy a Moron.

The online auction thing was cute.

The banter btw. Jordan and the new gal Hallie who “isn’t pregnant” and Jordan’s aversion to “Alternative Programming”.

I agree that Danny obsession with Jordan is creepy. I guess that’s what he meant by “coming for you”, but it’s a bit much.

I thought Lucy and Tom were cute too. I’d like to see them develop that more.

    GMMR,

    I flat out agree…Studio 60 rocks.

Studio 60…. and leave it at that. As far as I’m concerned, Aaron Sorkin should have his own channel! No one writes better dialogue.

They need to dump Harriet.. she just doesn’t work… and Jordan’s a drag. Actually, they need to find woman equal to the caliber of Matt and Danny. I thought Christine Lahti was an asset to the show.

Also… the lawyer said she was with same firm Sam Seaborn had been with on West Wing…. how wild is that?
