LIVE Blogging American Idol

LIve Blogging American Idol

Ten minutes into and I figure ‘what the hell, I’m watching – I might as well as blog it‘.

It’s all about the British invasion tonight. Peter Noone and LuLu are mentoring the kids tonight. Don’t know who they are? Me neither. Well I know LuLu from her stint on “Absolutely Fabulous” but without that I would never have known them. Hey, I wasn’t around in the 60’s, don’t blame me.

Haley Scarnato is singing “Tell Him”, and I think this is her best performance yet. She was cute, adorable and really had fun with it. Nice job. Oh and look, Ryan Cabrera is in the audience. Paula and Randy really enjoyed her performance. Simon thought she was “naughty”. He thought it was fun, young and a bit shrieky but overall he thinks people are going to be talking about a lot more than her singing. (1-866-IDOLS-01)

Chris Richardson is not getting the love by Peter Noone. Mr. Noone doesn’t seem to have much faith in the boy. We’ve got a rather subdued Chris tonight, and I’m slowly falling in love. His voice isn’t rich but there’s something about this kid. If he were to bypass American Idol he would have a record deal based on his look alone. But going up against these great singers, he doesn’t have much of a chance. I thought he did a really nice job tonight. Randy thought it was beautiful. Paula thought he was smart with his song choice and it was sexy. Simon thought it was his best performance because he really controlled the song and made it his own. Yeah Chris. (1-866-IDOLS-02)

Stephanie Edwards is signing “You Don’t Have to Say to You Love Me”. Hmmm, I’m a little perplexed by her performance. I don’t think she was really breathing well and that affected how she held the notes. I think Stephanie has a great voice but she was really warbly tonight and she went off key more than a few times. I don’t think she held her own against the great band. Randy and Paula were a bit iffy. Simon thought she was losing her edge and a bit of her soul. And what? She’s only 19?! Really? I thought she was older than that. She looks like she is in her mid-20s. (1-866-IDOLS-03)

Ryan is wearing two mics and looks dumb. And when he tries to “act” it just doesn’t work. Stick to what you know.

Blake Lewis is up next. I get a bit nervous before Blake’s performances because I think he’s the guy that is going to be there until the end and I want him to do well. He’s singing”Time of the Season.” Peter Noone doesn’t seem to be down with Blake either. Go back to London Peter. Blake adds just enough beat box to keep it interesting and really fresh. I love his subtle dancing-it fits nicely with the song. It was a little slow for my taste (I like him on the faster songs) but I thought he nailed it. I really liked it…well done my friend. Randy loved it and gave him much props. Paula thought he raised the bar. Simon though it was a million times better than last week. He found a way to make the song contemporary without messing with the melody. Good news all around. (1-866-IDOLS-04)

Seacrest tries to dance, sing and beat box and it’s so frakking’ funny. Dude did Seacrest get a hold of Paula’s special cup before the show??

LaKisha Jones is singing “Diamonds are Forever” and I can’t say that I know this song. She’s rocking a hot green dress and some mad boobage. She looks amazing (who am I Paula?). I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I don’t really love this performance. The song sounded a bit cheesy and dated and it didn’t showcase LaKisha’s amazing voice. It sounded like something from a James Bond movie. Everything sounded a bit stuck in her throat in my opinion. Randy – OMG this IS a James Bond song. Randy didn’t love it. Paula loved her diamonds. Simon thought it was too old for her and it wasn’t his favorite performance. (1-866-IDOLS-05)

Phil Stacey is signing “Tobacco Road”…yeah I don’t know this one either. Should I? Wait, does Noone actually likes one of the contestants? Do good, Phil – do good. Not crazy about the song, but 99% of it was in Phil’s register and he sang it really well. I’m a big fan of his voice. Nice job Phil. You will get one of my votes tonight. Randy likes his upper register and thought it was pretty good. Paula wasn’t jumping out of her chair but thought it was good. Simon wasn’t crazy about it, and thinks Phil has something to worry about tonight. (1-866-IDOLS-06)

Here’s a problem – I keep forgetting about Jordin Sparks. Seacrest mentioned she was up next, and I thought “oh yeah, Jordin’s here.”

Jordin Sparks is singing “I Who Have Nothing” and it’s one of Lulu’s favorites. Holy hell Jordin is tall. This girl has got some pipes and I think she has the chance to really kick some ass tonight. In the words of Kelly Kapoor she was AH-MAH-ZING. I mean I got chills and may have shed a few tears. Brilliant. I will kill the judges if they don’t offer her anything but the highest praise. WOW, I will NOT be forgetting Jordin next week. All the judges loved her (they were afraid I was going to come over there and slap them otherwise). (1-866-IDOLS-07)

Sanjaya is up next. I wonder if he is loving the attention or embarrased that people think he sucks so bad that they are making him into a joke.

Fox’s new show “Drive” looks like “The Amazing Race” on crack. Peter Noone sucks and I hope he doesn’t come back.

Sanjaya Malakar is singing “You Got Me Going”. Ha ha ha he has brought some girl in the audience to tears. This is the most confidence we’ve seen out of him to date. He’s trying his hardest not to suck, I’ll give him that much. Simon looks horrified. He’s balls to the wall on this one and it’s cracking me up. Maybe the key to Sanjaya is that he should just scream the song. His best performance yet, for what it’s worth. Paula and Randy were supportive. Simon has had enough of Sanjaya and I think he figures the less he says the better. (1-866-IDOLS-08)

Gina Glockson had a strong week last week. Will it be 2 in a row? I have to say, I think I really like what LuLu brings to the show. Gina’s taking on “Paint it Black”. Ugh, not liking the opening – it was weird and almost creepy and almost a big behind the beat. So not a fan of this performance. I felt like I went to go see a bad band at a bar. I’m interested to see what the judges have to say. Randy and Paula seemed to like it enough, but Simon didn’t think it was vocally good enough. (1-866-IDOLS-09)

I’m bored already…is this show over yet?

Chris Sligh is up with “She’s Not There”. Chris walking through the audience, but he’s not working it. He’s walking through all these people and he’s just staring at the camera…weird. He sang it well, but I wasn’t crazy about it. I think it may be the genre. The judges enjoyed him but they weren’t overwhelmed. (1-866-IDOLS-10)

Melinda Doolittle is singing “As Long as He Needs Me”. Mindy Doo got a hair cut and it makes her look young, but I’m not sure if I love it. Her vocals are amazing, no denying it, but I think the song was a little old. And for the love of God STOP showing the crying girl. Just wonderful, but I’ve liked some of her other performances a tiny bit better. Randy thinks this is the best vocal. Paula loved it. Simon thought it was sensational with an impeccable vocal. (1-866-IDOLS-11)

And we are done. Time to vote kids. Who is getting my vote tonight?

Well I think Jordin, Blake and Melinda were the best tonight, so I’m going voting for them (with a few thrown in there for Phil). LaKisha should of course be around, and there’s no doubt in my mind that she will be there. I’m nervous that Sanjaya will continue to stick around as the joke because the campaign for him to stay around has been so strong. I bet there is some MAJOR animosity with the contestants as he continues to take spots away from better singers. I wonder.

Am I the only one who thinks Chris Richardson looks like he’s constipated when he sings?

  2. SaraPMcC on March 20th, 2007 7:30 pm

My mom used to sing “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” when we were kids, and my sister always cried and begged her to stop singing. It’s a great song, though. Not Stephanie’s best performance.

  3. Elena on March 20th, 2007 7:56 pm

Haha Ryan is a little crazy but he looks hot (not as hot as last week with his 5 o’clock shadow). Blake was great! I love him.

  4. Elena on March 20th, 2007 8:15 pm

    Jordin was amazinggggg!!!

I love how she towered over Ryan. He’s so small.

  5. SaraPMcC on March 20th, 2007 8:26 pm

Sanjaya, I have one word for you: Yikes. What WAS that?

  6. Cara on March 20th, 2007 8:30 pm

What was with that crying girl? I think she got more camera time than some of the contestants!

Is there something going on between Simon and Paula? He keeps giving her these really sexual, flirty looks … even though they’re disagreeing and arguing. Hmm.

  9. theTVaddict on March 20th, 2007 8:54 pm

Okay, obviously ‘crying girl’ has some sort of mental problem… it is just too weird. Why are the directors focusing on her?

Final note: Doolittle’s act is wearing thin… nobody is that nice.

  10. Jordan on March 20th, 2007 8:59 pm

I know this sounds awful, but I keep wondering if the crying girl is there as part of a wish program. God, that sounds terrible. 🙂 But seriously-advertisers pay millions for the amount of time she spent on the screen! And-she’s on stage!! OH MY GOD!

  11. Carly on March 20th, 2007 9:17 pm

    Jordin. Jordin. Jordin.
I watched it three times and just keep replaying it again and again AND i get chills every time.

Also.. the fact that the cameras kept focusing on that girl was horrific. They actually filmed her more than Sanjaya.

  12. Diddlee on March 20th, 2007 9:26 pm

Holy crap, in the middle of Lakisha’s song, I too said outloud, this is very James Bond. I guess props to her for getting the style?

    Chris R bugs me.

Sanjaya finally had a voice and danced in time…since he did good for once…he’ll finally go…bye Sanjaya.

To the crying girl…we’ll show you this in 5 years and you’ll want to die of embarrassment! Change your name and looks and never admit it was you!

  15. Carli on March 21st, 2007 12:30 am

Why is nobody commenting on what Ryan “accidentally” did onstage with his hand?! OMG, I was so embarrassed for him. The judges didn’t even know what to say.

My vote goes to: Blake, Jordin and Melinda. Same as every week. I just love them.

  16. Kris on March 21st, 2007 2:06 am

Wait, Carli, what did Ryan do w/ his hand? I must have missed this. What happened? Anyone?

    Anyways, i want Sanjaya off…now, please. That performance was absolutely horrible. Just…completely unbearable. He didn’t even sing the damn song! He just shouted it. Just…off. Sucks so much ass. If he had shown up audition week singing like that, they never would have let him go to Hollywood ^^;;

And that crying girl: WHAT was her problem? 😛 No offense (b/c, knowing my luck, she’s probably some sickly girl, etc.), but i got super annoyed seeing her face continually pop up on screen, crying. This girl wasn’t just shedding a few tears either. Go figure. I mean, it’s Sanjaya for freakin sake! ^^;; Is that mean?

GMMR, you don’t know who Peter Noone is?! *gasp* He’s the lead singer of Herman’s Hermits. I’ve actually seen him (and Herman’s Hermits) perform. They’re so wonderful and i love their music (and i’m 22). But i’m just teasing you 🙂

I agree w/ Simon though (and disagree w/ Noone): this IS a signing competition. Sorry. Let’s stick w/ the vocals here. Oh, and speaking of vocals, LuLu CANNOT sing anymore. I loved “To Sir, With Love” but, man, her voice is shot now. Yikes.

  17. Lauren on March 21st, 2007 2:25 am

I THOGUHT THE SAME THING ABOUT CRYING GIRL JORDAN! Lol…I said to my aunt halfway though “I think she’s like make a wish or something?” Horrible, but why else a) would be be in tears and think sanjaya was great? b) have more camera time than seacrest?

Jordin, Melinda and Blake were the best…I’m going to go ahead and predict LaKisha will be that person this season who gets voted off before they shouldn’t and everyone freaks out…I mean whats a good season without that? (Chris Daughtry, Constantine the season before, that Laytoya London and Jennifer Hudson…)

  18. srah on March 21st, 2007 9:25 am

I loved Crying Girl. Every second that CG was on the screen was a second that Sanjaya and Phil weren’t.

  19. dada95835 on March 21st, 2007 10:29 am

Crying Girl cracked me up! I couldn’t stop laughing every time they showed her! Oh, and I’d like Phil to go soon. That bald head and big eyes…he looks like an alien or something! Creeps me out. Jordin was fantastic. Melinda was awesome, as usual 🙂 I couldn’t believe Ryan’s obscene gesture either! My husband kept replaying it and cracking up!

  20. Jess on March 21st, 2007 10:52 am

Happy Birthday Kath!!! Hope it’s a great one. 🙂

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned Sanjaya’s sister in the audience…there was something written on the T-shirt she was wearing but I was so distracted by her boobs falling out of it that I have no idea what it said.

  21. srah on March 21st, 2007 11:04 am

For those who (like me) didn’t notice Ryan’s gesture last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouPtfFHSfQk

  22. Lauren on March 21st, 2007 12:52 pm

Agreed Jess. The sister’s boobs were all over the place!!!! And….HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you have a great day!
