A Title for the Grey’s Anatomy Spin-off

Kate Walsh, Grey's Anatomy Spin Off

Someone at ABC has leaked the title for the upcoming Grey’s Anatomy spin-off. Are you ready? Are you sure? Ok here we go. Drum roll please….it’s Private Practice*. Ugh, my thoughts exactly. I don’t know what goes into naming a show, but I think someone needs to hit that 30 second rewind button on the TiVo and try again. To me, Private Practice screams cheesy soap opera. Am I wrong? Then again, does the title of the show really matter?

News of the title came via our friends over at BuddyTV who also mentioned that the ABC big wigs cautioned that the title is only tentative and may change (they’ve got to test it with the public first I’m sure).

Kate Walsh will be leading the cast of Private Practice which includes Tim Daly (The Nine), Taye Diggs (Rent), Amy Brennerman (Judging Amy), Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars) among others.

“The spin off is being touted for its stand alone premise that will take Walsh’s character out of the realm of nightmarish medical emergencies and incorporated hospital trysts into a setting they think less hardcore medical drama fans will appreciate. In that sense, the proposed name for the Grey’s Anatomy spin off is quite apt, indeed.”

No word on when Private Practice will premiere on the ABC schedule, but the premise and perhaps some of the characters will be introduced during the 2 hour Grey’s Anatomy season finale on May 10.

Let’s hear it. Private Practice. Love it or hate it?!

It’s an alright title, but I wonder if it really does matter. There are a few shows that I love, but could live without the titles.

at least its not going to be called “addison’s anatomy” that just sounds,… wrong somehow

I remember when ABC was taking votes on what Grey’s Anatomy would be called. It was between that (G.A.) and “Complications.” And the rest is history. Maybe they should’ve done the same thing with “Private Practice.” It’s not horrible. Could have a double meaning, meaning the medical side of things but also their private lives. That’s my two cents anyway.

yeah I hate it too, but like Brad said, there are usually working titles, various titles in consideration, and changes along the way…so I’m not gonna write it off just yet.

oh, and on another note, I am really looking forward to this spin off. If it does well, I forsee major trouble for Grey’s

Hate it. As someone involved with marketing, I think they could do a lot better. It’s just…unimaginative and bland. But then again, maybe I’m still a little bitter about the spin-off.

Ok, so maybe I’m the only one with my mind in the gutter, but doesn’t Addison deliver babies…so isn’t PRIVATE practice a lit bit over-the-top for the show’s name? Yikes.

Private Practice. Yuck. It reminds me of that generic Medical Investigations show on NBC a few years ago (that I watched, but only for Christopher Gorham.) Terrible title.

It’s kind of boring, but I wouldn’t say that I hate it… But they definitely could do better… they may need more than just riding on GA’s coattails.

I do not care that much about the title. I care about the content of the show. I do think tge title is fitting though. Addison is leaving the hospital to go into privat practice. The whole point is the change from the hospital to the life, and environment of a private practice.
Makes sence. I and I saw the Greys anatomy, where its introduced, and it looks FANTASTIC. Brilliant.
