Say Goodbye to The Black Donnellys

Just this past Saturday night I was talking to my friends about the future of The Black Donnellys. Poor naive Ray and Rob thought that because The Black Donnellys was a well written, well acted show that it would stick around. If only. Word came down today that NBC pulled the mob drama about the hot Irish Donnellys brothers in favor of yet another reality show. Oh joy. Ashton Kutcher’s new reality show, The Real Wedding Crashers, will premiere in place of the Donnellys beginning Monday April 23rd at 10 P.M.
Let’s hope Tommy, Kevin, Sean and Jimmy Donnelly don’t go the way of Louie Downtown and Huey and never return. I’m wondering if I’m the jinx. It’s as if every show I start to really like and get invested in is just pulled from the air with no closure. And if I’m not the curse is it just perhaps that Monday 10pm time slot on NBC?

I really liked this show when it premiered. I thought the pilot was fantastic. But then, I started hating bits and pieces of it to the point where I even dread knowing it’s on. The characters get less and less likeable as the show goes on. And the mother drives me nuts. If I were a Donnelly who didn’t care so much about killing people, she’d top my list, blood relation or not. I’m actually sorta relieved that I don’t have to feel obligated to watch it in the next couple of weeks.
so is studio 60 coming back this season? they keep putting new shows in their time slot so I was just curious
Well, I guess I will hold off on watching all of the episodes I have saved in my DVR. I am NOT going to bother to go through and watch something else just to stand by and see it get yanked.

Wow-that is really sad. I’ve seen every ep and really liked it. It seems like it just premired-how could they pull it so soon? Were rating that bad?
I am so upset about this. It is such a great show. And then I hear the double whammy that How I Met Your Mother is in danger. I guess networks just don’t want good quality television on and would rather give us crap.
are you kidding me?! i JUST finished watching the first 7 episodes. it would’ve been nice to know this before i wasted my weekend getting into a show that’s getting cancelled.
There are far too many ‘reality’ shows on TV these days, we have the same problem in the UK. Networks should realise that quality counts as well as quantity. It’s not ALL about viewing figures. Shows like The Office and Peep Show in the UK never achieved massive ratings, but the networks (BBC and Channel 4 in these examples) knew that they were delivering a quality product, and aired them along with higher rating reality shows. Getting the balance right is the key. I for one was really getting into The Black Donnellys, but then again I loved Studio 60 also! The Real Wedding Crashers sounds terrible.
Ok, now I’m really mad. Sure, The Black Donnellys has its flaws, but for it to be replaced by yet another stupid reality show is more than I can handle. I hate reality TV with a passion, which is why I never watch any of it. I just wish more people would boycott this crap so TV executives would be forced to seek out actual creative ideas for shows instead of filling their lineups with more of this crap. Ashton Kutcher is beyond annoying, and I’m sure this show will be as well. UGH!!
If I weren’t so angry at the latest network insult to TV viewers, I would be amused at all the know-nothings who think the political correctness manual, “Crash,” was a great film yet complain earnestly of ethnic stereotypes and heavy-handed writing in “The Black Donnellys.” It’s scary that these people aren’t joking.
TV networks should be requred from now on to post a warning:
IF THIS SHOW IS GOOD, IT WILL BE CANCELED AND REPLACED WITH A REALITY SHOW THAT DEGRADES HUMANITY AND CONTRIBUTES EVEN FURTHER TO THE DECLINE OF CIVILIZATION.
Actually NBC will be streaming the remaining episodes online on their website during the time the Donnellys was supposed to air on Monday nights. Billy Lush, (who plays Kevin Donnelly) posted it on his myspace, along with the encouragement that the only hope for the show was to get viewers to watch the episodes there as well as on Itunes. Just thought I’d let the Donnelly fans know 🙂 Maybe there is hope.
