Sanjaya Still America’s Favorite Joke

April 4, 2007 by

Gina GlocksonSanjaya Malakar lives to sing (if you can call it that) another week. For some reason there are people all over this country who take time out of their lives to pick up the phone and vote for him – multiple times. For the love of Pete you made your point – make it stop already my ears can’t take it anymore.

The contestants were grouped into 3’s tonight. The top 3 were Melinda, LaKisha and Jordin. The middle group was Blake, Chris and Sanjaya. And the group with the lowest votes were Phil, Gina and Haley.

In the end it was a very emotional Gina Glocksen that is sent packing with the sounds of Daughtry’s “Home” ushering her off the stage. So not only did America get it wrong by not sending Sanjaya home, but then kept around Haley Scarnato too. And to add insult to injury, Gina has to sing the melancholy yet inspired “Smile”. I’m teary right now, what is wrong with me?

Anyone know what went down in the final moments? My TiVo cut it off but I’m watching online with “Jim Mosby” and he said that he heard Gina say something to Jordin and it appeared that she was passing Jordin the mic when the screen went to black. Did anyone else see what went down? If Jordin Sparks grabbed the mic and called for Sanjaya’s ousting and I missed it I will be pissed!!!

She just held the mic out to have Jordin join in on the song.

As for tonight, I at least can understand why Haley stays around. I think there are a bunch of guys voting for her boobs. But Sanjaya? Don’t get it.

What I found more interesting than all of that was Michael Buble reference to Antonella Barba? Michael, I thought at least you would know who’s buttering your bread long enough to be quiet.

Michael Buble is an idiot. He sounded like he was slightly drunk, and then made that ridiculous comment about continuing to vote for Antonella Barba, dissing all of the other contestants right across the stage from him, and making it quite clear that in his opinion it doesn’t matter how they sound, the only thing that matters is their boobs. Then Ryan agrees with him, saying he also does the same thing. Both of them should be ashamed of themselves. They have the right to think that way in private, but to say it on national television in front of the remaining finalists was a disgrace.

Awww! Even though I knew in advance who got out, I still was crying. Gina did such a good job last night even if she isn’t the best. Don’t the people who vote for Sanjaya know what there are people on the show who deserve to stay?

Oh & yeah, Gina just gave the mic to Jordin to sing the last words. It seemed like Jordin was closest to Gina.

Obviously everyone wants Sanjaya to go. But Gina over Haley? Oh, the humanity! I can’t stand Haley. I was so hoping she’d go. So hoping.

I’m so sick of people voting for the crappy singers! They sure spend a lot of time and energy over a show they “supposedly” don’t like.

I agree with Don. Buble did sound like he was drunk, and I didn’t think his preformance was very good either.

We don’t watch the show we just call and vote for the worst…once. It takes hardly anytime at all. And we do it because this show is destroying decent TV on network television. If this show went away and a couple million watched FNL and a couple million watched VM those shows would not be in danger of being cancelled.

I got really teary eyed as well. How ironic that she had to sing Smile the day she got cut. Ugh. Haley needs to go. and Buble was horrible last nite.

I actually thought Buble was entertaining last night.
It was kind of fun to see him a bit tipsy – or whatever he was.
I felt it sort of took the seriousness out of the evening.

And to those of you who think you are doing something good for TV here by voting for the worst – though I understand where you are coming from – the approach is all wrong. Every vote cast is basically considered a Nielsen “viewer” – so the more you vote, the more they think you love the show, the more they charge Coke and Ford for placement and the cycle continues. You would be better off not giving this show the time of day.

So sorry to see you go Gina. What a messed up season.

Let me put it this way…the longer Idol is on, the more idiots are going to be calling in to tick everyone else off who really enjoys the show and wants the best to win.
Gina leaving was WRONG – out of all the people who can’t sing – they let her go. It’s a shame!!!!
I think American Idol should end this year – just to save face. The longer they are on, the worst it’s going to get.

I felt soo bad for Gina. It really is a shame that we always have someone who is clearly the joke of the show every year; Kevin Covais, Anthony Federov, the red-haired guy from a few seasons back, and now Sanjaya. Seriously, this helps no one. Why do they do this to us every season?

And does anyone else feel like the Idol charity event is nothing more than continuous shameless self-promotion for all involved?

I agree, sim – this show needs to end this season. I don’t really care for it, but i watch it out of mere entertainment. I never vote nor do i support any idol’s career b/c it’s not the type of music i listen to. This season has become such a joke that it needs to end…now.

To Earl (and others who vote for the worst): i understand your hatred for the show. But the idea of doing it b/c the show sucks and people aren’t watching the good shows is complete BS (and some of my favorite shows have been cancelled). I don’t care how much you hate the show, but for the sake of the people actually ON the show who are trying so hard to accomplish their dream (no matter how shitty the show and how manipulative it is), you are taking that away from them. It’s nice that you let the ones who can’t sing (Sanjaya) stay on, but, although it may sound cliche, you’re ruining others’ dreams. The show is stupid, but you’re no better, to be completely frank. In my eyes, you’re just stooping to its level. Don’t like it? Don’t watch it. But you’re not going to change people’s minds about watching it. In my opinion, their ratings are through the roof, rather than declining. I just don’t see you accomplishing your goal. Unlike you, i’m not voting to ruin the show, but, like you, i hope this is it for AI (the only common ground we have ^^;;).

I’m gonna say what a lot of people aren’t willing to admit, Lakisha, Melinda and Jordin may have the best voices but they are boring as hell, fat and ugly and two out of three of them will not make top 5. Haley will continue to be there as long as she continues to dress hot as soon as she covers those legs or boobs she’ll be voted off and don’t think she doesn’t know it.

Sanjaya as much as people what to hate on him for not having an astounding voice is the only one that is being talked about because he’s different. Best voices aren’t the one’s that become mega superstars Madonna and Britney are examples but they do have a look and a persona that makes people watch and listen.

What makes people continue to vote for him because it annoys so many of you and frankly that’s what makes it even more hilarious! I think Sanjaya knows we’re voting for him cuz we think he can’t sing but I think he doesn’t care because in the end if he wins he still gets a million dollars.

Oh, and Earl I completely agree with you!

I find it interesting that those people with dissenting opinions are the only ones that post a fake email address. And not to burst your bubble woohoo, but people are talking about Sanjaya because he sucks and that’s what makes him different than the other contestants. In the same paragraph you talk about Sanjaya being different and not having an “astounding” voice and then you go on to speak of Britney and Madonna. Please don’t tell me you are trying to compare Sanjaya to them. Neither women have the greatest voices but they didn’t become popular because they were a joke. They are/were legitimate entertainers…Sanjaya is not.
