59th Annual Primetime Emmy Award Nominations

July 19, 2007 by

It’s about 5:30AM here on the West Coast and my bleary eyes are up only because it happens to be EMMY day!! Here are the nominations for the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Overall not a terrible list. Obviously I’m overjoyed that THE OFFICE and its stars Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer and Rainn Wilson were nominated. Finally Neil Patrick Harris was recognized for his work on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER which thrills me to no end. The category with the strongest competition has to be Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Harris, Wilson, Dillon, Cryer (whatevs) and The Pivs…wow. But I’m insanely disappointed that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS wasn’t recognized in any of the major categories? What? This honestly bewilders me.

Congratulations to all The Office folk!! They deserve it!

  3. sorano916 on July 19th, 2007 9:12 am

Kath, you put ‘Kevin Dillon β€œHow I Met Your Mother”’ instead of ‘Kevin Dillon “Entourage”‘ πŸ™‚

Yay! for all the nominations! However, I’m sad that LOST didn’t get a nom. πŸ™ But I’m very[/jim] happy that Jenna and Rainn got noms, though. Steve was a lock. πŸ˜‰

  4. Frank on July 19th, 2007 9:12 am

Ok first of all. Two and a Half Men is still on TV? Secondly Tony Shaloub again? Really? Even after last year he told the Emmy Voters that they made a “Huge Mistake” when they gave him the Lead Actor in a Comedy last year?

I dont know why I get all excited for this each year. Emmys, it’s like i don’t even know you anymore.

  5. mg714 on July 19th, 2007 9:18 am

So glad for all the Office noms, esp Jenna. I’m really happy for Rainn and Steve too, but wish really all the actors could be recognized (I know I’m greedy πŸ™‚ )

I agree I am so incredbly upset that FNL didn’t make it into the major categories and only got noms for directing and casting! Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton gave the best drama performances last year, along with Matthew Fox of Lost and none of those 3 were nominated. And Lost was snubbed again in Best Drama? At least it got two supporting actor nods, but no Elizabeth Mitchell! I thought she would have been a shoo-in to win!

Also, I personally got sick of Grey’s toward the end of the season so I wish FNL or Lost had gotten into the drama series instead – I think Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson are great, but as much as I like Katherine Heigel in general, I am surprised she was nominated.

BTW, GMMR – Scrubs wasn’t nominated for comedy – 30 Rock was. I am glad 30 Rock was nominated (though I also wish Scrubs was too) and love that Tina Fey was nominated!

OMG I am SO out of it!! Sorry for all the mistakes. I actually had the list ready to go thinking it would save time, but then they went so damn fast I got all kinds of confused. 30 ROCK it is, and Kevin Dillon from ENTOURAGE…got it.

  7. Julie on July 19th, 2007 9:23 am

I’m so happy for Rainn and Jenna! It is well deserved…and I’m excited that Brothers & Sisters got some recognition as well…but nothing for Friday Night Lights? Are you kidding me? I’m really disappointed that it didn’t get any….so I guess it’s a mixed bag for me this year.

  9. Give Me My Remote on July 19th, 2007 9:32 am

Yeah, I was SUPER SUPER excited for Jenna and Rainn as well. A little sad that John was the only one of the main leads not nominated, but I think he’s going to be just fine. Rainn and Jenna have to win. It sucks that the fans have no say in the matter…the forced of OFFICE fans is something not to be messed with.

  10. mg714 on July 19th, 2007 9:33 am

Oh I also have to add that I’m so glad to see Ricky Gervais nominated for best actor – though of course I really hope Steve wins it (but I have a sneaking suspicion Alec Baldwin might win) – as long as neither Charlie Sheen nor Tony Shaloub win I can accept it! I would rather have seen Jason Lee and Zach Braff take those spots. Then it would have been a perfect category.

  11. Jackie on July 19th, 2007 9:35 am

OK, so so so happy for Jenna and Rainn! That totally made my day! But, I am surprised that Lost and Matthew Fox got snubbed. Very pissed about that. I don’t watch FNL because quite frankly, the promos have never gotten me interested in watching the show (seems too high school drama for me–probably the promo departments fault based on what you guys have said!). And Tony Shaloub? Please. Why does he always get nominated?!?! That show and his character are getting so old!

  12. Alicia on July 19th, 2007 9:45 am

Alright three words: Jenna, Rainn, Steve! Need I say more?

Alright a few more…. Michael Emerson (Ben), Locke…c’mon that was some good nominations Emmy people! Now Terry first needs to win since he hasn’t, but Emerson is so up there and will get his turn!

  13. Merrie on July 19th, 2007 9:57 am

Yea for all the Office nominees! Last season was such a great season for Jenna Fischer — I am glad her work was rewarded. I’ll be even gladder (it can be a word) when she wins!

It will be tough rooting for both Rainn Wilson and Neil Patrick Harris in the same category. Can there be a tie?

  14. Give Me My Remote on July 19th, 2007 10:01 am

As I said before, I think the Best Support Actor in a Comedy Series is so tough. Now I think my love for Rainn Wilson goes without saying, but Neil Patrick Harris is the definition of Best Supporting Actor on HIMYM. Then again Jeremy Piven and Kevin Dillon are super strong in this category too.

As for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. My heart will always be with Carell, but I would not be disappointed in the least if Ricky Gervais took home the award. EXTRAS is amazing and he is so good in it. And at the end of the day, it’s Ricky who is 100% responsible for my love of all things THE OFFICE, so you have to root for him.

  15. Katen on July 19th, 2007 10:08 am

    JOHN KRASINSKI??!?!?!?!?

  16. Kim on July 19th, 2007 10:19 am

First of all, I cannot believe I live in a world where Two and a Half Men gets 4 acting noms and a best show nom and Friday Night Lights has to settle for directing and casting noms only. FNL has some of the most raw and honest acting that I have EVER seen!!!!

No LOST for best show (again)??? I am thrilled with the two supporting noms, but like many others was fully hoping to see Matthew Fox and Elizabeth Mitchell in the running as well.

I am super psyched to see Rainn and Jenna in there. I am only sad that JKras didn’t make it. There are other major categories that had 6 or 7 noms, why couldn’t they have just let JKras in too?

  17. Give Me My Remote on July 19th, 2007 10:23 am

What’s it like to be Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey and Justin Chambers this morning. At least Patrick and Justin have each other. Ellen has to deal with being the only female not nominated for GREY’S. I really hope Chandra Wilson takes it for Team Grey, because I think she is stronger than Katie and Sandra.

Oh and Jenna Fischer was nominated…he he, I just love writing that!!

  18. caleb on July 19th, 2007 10:32 am

two and a half men is over rated but Im happy with the rest of the noms

  19. Lauren on July 19th, 2007 11:09 am

Yay Jenna! I actually shouted out “YES” today when I read that! πŸ™‚ Also Congrats to Steve, Rainn, and the rest of the Office cast. In other shows, I’m excited about Entourage, Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven, Huge Laurie, Terry O’Quinn, Michael Emerson, & Heroes.

Now lets discuss the “WTFs!?!?!” of the nominations: NO LOST?!? I mean Boston Legal but no Lost? Outrage. I think that Elizabeth Mitchell deserved a supporting actress nod as well. Also, Ugly Betty with 11 nominations makes me worry for my Office. Oh and Charlie Sheen? Ick. And I’m also over Grey’s.

  20. Jen on July 19th, 2007 11:10 am

JENNA!!!!!! YAY!!!! Rainn!!!!!! YAY!!!! NINE noms baby!!!!!!!!!! And it IS Steve’s year!!! I can feel it!

  21. Mexicanity on July 19th, 2007 11:18 am

Woot-woot!! Congrats to everyone on The Office! Well deserved! I can’t wait to see everyone all glammed up!

  22. Nicole on July 19th, 2007 11:27 am

Really excited for Jenna, Rainn, Steve, The Office generally, Neil Patrick Harris (yes!)

Bewildered by Two and a Half Men – who is banging who to keep this show in nominations?????

Shocked that Matthew Fox was not nominated – after I watched the Lost finale, I was positive he would be – he was fabulous in that episode.

  23. Shawn on July 19th, 2007 11:32 am

IM VERY EXCITED for Rainn Wilson, but I’m mad that John Krasinski didn’t get nominated! He deserved it!!

  24. Kristi on July 19th, 2007 11:42 am

Oh my gosh, I cheered for Jenna and Rainn! About time πŸ™‚

  25. jenintx on July 19th, 2007 11:53 am

I’m happy for the Office and 30 Rock noms, but I was so peeved to find no love for FNL in the top catagories. I just do not understand it, seriously.

  26. Steve on July 19th, 2007 11:57 am

    drama – house
    comedy – the office
drama actor – sutherland (but probably gandolfini)
    drama actress – sedgwick
comedy actor – anyone but sheen
    comedy actress – fey
supporting drama actor – masi oka (or imperioli)
supporting drama actress – heigl (or wilson)
    supporting comedy actor – wilson
    supporting comedy actress – fischer
competition reality show – the amazing race (possibly DWTS)
    reality show – bullshit

  27. CrazyGringa on July 19th, 2007 12:12 pm

I’m just looking at the whole nomination list over on the emmy site and even Wade Robson got nominated for an emmy (best choreography). Cool beans!

  28. Carli on July 19th, 2007 12:56 pm

Can someone PLEASE explain the fascination with Two and a Half Men to me?!

Boo to no BSG or FNL!

  29. Beth on July 19th, 2007 1:07 pm

Words cannot describe how happy I am for Neil Patrick Harris and his nomination- he is simply brilliant on that show…I will be satisfied if he, or Rainn take home the win!

I am soooo excited for The Office, I feel such a sense of pride!

But seriously what is going on with some of the nominations…3 and a Half Men? I watched the show recently to try and figure out the appeal but was left completely unsatisfied (TWSS). No love for Lost or Matthew Fox? Grey’s was given some generous nominations for how much it bombed this season (i’d hate to be Ellen Pompeo right now…)

Oh well, I am just happy that The Office is listed…now all they have to do is win…

  30. Lishka on July 19th, 2007 2:46 pm

I’m thrilled about the nominations for The Office (sad John Krasinski was left out, though). I’m bewildered by Boston Legal as a Best Drama nominee; that show is still on? People watch it? People like it? [Scratches head and sighs.]

Lost or Rome would have been better choices. Heck, a blank TV screen would have been a better choice…

  31. Lizzie on July 19th, 2007 4:25 pm

I am so happy for The Office, especially JENNA!!!

However I am absolutely SHOCKED that Friday Night Lights was snubbed in the acting and best show categories! I am so upset, it is the best show on TV!

  32. Give Me My Remote on July 19th, 2007 5:21 pm

Who do you think got the biggest snub?

I’m thinking first and foremost FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS for best drama, and then Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler for Best Actress and Actor in a Drama.

Personal love for his lankiness aside, I do think John Krasinski should have received a nomination. But if he submitted “Business School” as previously reported I could see why maybe he was overlooked. I’m looking forward to S3 and Jim being Happy!Jim again.

I knew it wasn’t going to happen, but I’m still sad Lauren Graham didn’t get a nod…I mean did they not see her sing “I Will Always Love You?”!!

  33. Sus on July 19th, 2007 7:25 pm

I was really surprised about Boston Legal. Does anyone even watch that show anymore? I never hear about it. Maybe I’m not floating around in the right circles. πŸ˜‰

I’m so excited for the Office & Ugly Betty folks as well as Neil Patrick Harris. And House. And Masi Oka. And the Grey’s folks. Okay, basically everyone! πŸ˜‰

One question, though…will they actually be allowed to say Penn&Teller: Bullshit on the air? πŸ˜€

  34. jenintx on July 19th, 2007 9:58 pm

Definitely agree the biggest snub was FNL(why yes, I am totally biased) mostly because of some of what WAS choosen(I think I could be more resigned if say BSG or The Wire had been nominated) Not to denigrate anyone’s favorite show, but some of these selections are not deserving , IMO. Greys and House? I’m not a hater, I have both first 2 seasons on dvd, but the last seasons were not quality. Hero’s was good entertainment, but award-worthy? I don’t know. And I’ve seen exactly 2 epi’s of Boston Legal, and they were nothing more than background noise. FNL is groundbreaking in the way it’s shot, acted, even how the stories evolve through the actors and writers working together. Nearly every actor(Connie and Kyle especially) inhabits their characters in such a raw, honest way, it’s difficult to remember they aren’t real people! I guess I was just getting my hopes up…stoooopid.

  35. Jen on July 19th, 2007 10:49 pm

Why Why Why are there no Battlestar Galactica acting nominations?!?!?!?! Booooo! I’m at least excited they got a nod for Best Direction, Best Visual Effects, and Best Writing.

  36. Christina on July 20th, 2007 12:10 am

    I hope Extras wins.

  37. Steve on July 21st, 2007 10:14 am

I would have loved to see more love for my current favorite show, DEXTER. Showtime gets snubbed a bunch.

In other news, A+ for the office and 30 rock!

  38. Billiam on July 21st, 2007 6:00 pm

One person I love who never gets a nomination is Johny C. McGinley from Scrubs, who is just extremely talented (both comedically and dramatically). I guess he didn’t have an ep this season that was quite on par with last season’s amazing “My Lunch.”

And Rainn Wilson and Neil Patrick Harris were very pleasant surprises. I hope one of them wins.
I don’t understand the popularity of “Two and A Half Men” which I consider typical sitcom garbage. And I really need to check out the dvds for Entourage, so I can at least know what ppl are talking about. I’m just not rich enough for HBO.
