Neil & Lacey’s Contemporary Routine by Mia Michaels

I don’t care if you are a fan of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE or not, you should take a few minutes to check out this beautiful routine from last night’s episode. Partners Neil Haskell & Lacey Schwimmer were breathtaking in this gorgeous routine by choreographer Mia Michaels.

The video sadly doesn’t include the pre-performance footage during which Mia explains that she wrote this dance to tell the story of her one day reunion with her father that just recently passed. It’s so beautifully designed and performed.

If anyone comes across the full video with the pre-performance footage and/or the judges comments, please let me know.

    Oh dear.

    I admit, I cried hearing Mia describe the inspiration behind it (I lost both my parents, my dad most recently, so it hit home). But the performance felt cheesey to me. The song, the flowers…incredibly self-indulgent for such a mass audience, which I question. And then there’s the fact that no one is going to say anything bad about a dance inspired by Mia’s dead dad. I mean, that would make them a monster (as I probably am deemed right now for writing this).

    Mostly, though, I am bewildered by the descriptions of it being the best dance/performance the judges have seen…like, EVER. Ridiculous. And that statement? Kinda reduces all their other comments about it to meaningless drivel.

    But Sabra and Pasha were AMAZING! Go, Pascha! He can do no wrong.

    the song is called ‘the dance’ by charlotte martin. but what kinda dance is that? i love it.
