BIG BROTHER Recap: The Power of Veto

August 14, 2007 by

I’m desperate to write a super brief BIG BROTHER recap because I’m more than anxious to see where you all stand on the competition and the events of this week. So here we go…

Previously on BIG BROTHER…
Jessica won the HOH competition and nominated Daniele and Dick for eviction. Dick didn’t take too kindly to the nomination and promised he would do everything in his power to make the houseguests hate him (even more than they already do) in order to keep Daniele in the house. In the last episode Jameka and Amber took the brunt of Dick’s abuse. Jameka fought back, Amber cried, and they both turned to God.

And so are the days of our lives…
On tonight’s episode, we see that Dick hasn’t let up in his pursuit to piss off the houseguests. He wakes up Dustin (and the house) by banging posts and pans in his face. I don’t condone violence but if I were in that house I might have gone all Britney Spears with an umbrella on Dick’s ass. But hey, he has a strategy and he’s sticking to it. You gotta respect that…right?

Dani is still feeling the heat from the HGs about her dad’s behavior. After spatting with Jameka, she heads up to the HOH room and shares her feelings with the rest of the house. Later she admits that although she was upset, the confrontation was definitely part of her strategy. Those Donato’s…they are nothing if not game players.

The Power of Veto Competition…
It’s do or die time for Dick and Dani as they each need to win the POV to continue on in the game. Both players join HOH Jess, Jameka, Zach and Dustin in the fight for the POV. Around the backyard are Big Brother liquid concoctions. For each drink you finish you get one shot at the Big Brother croquet game. Score the most points in croquet and win POV. Let me tell you…I don’t think I could have finished two of those drinks. Liquefied hamburger and fries? Big Brother blood? Ugh, I couldn’t even watch the POV because my gag reflexes were in full force. I’m getting nauseated just thinking about it.

In the end Dustin and Dick were the only two houseguests to drink all 10 concoctions. Both played extremely well in the croquet match, but with his last shot Dick pulled out the win.

The POV Ceremony…
With Dick holding the POV, Jessica had to be prepared to offer up another nominee in his place. Dustin agreed to be the pawn (bad move my friend) if she needed him to be. He was relishing the idea of being up next to Dick when Dick went home. as Jessica was pondering her replacement nominee she had a short chat with Jen who planted the idea in Jess’s head that Dick and Dustin were working together, and that’s why Dustin was so anxious to go up on the block. That got Jess thinking. Confused, she sought out her trusted adviser, Eric, who unbeknown to Jess was attempting to give her the silent treatment courtesy of America. It just happened to be bad timing as Eric’s poor excuse about “being sick” played into Jess’s paranoia and she wondered out loud in the HOH room if Eric was working with Dustin and Dick as well.

At the POV ceremony, in a move that shocked no one, Dick gave the POV to his daughter to save her from elimination. In her place Dustin was nominated. In a post-nomination DR session Dustin was overly cocky about his chances of staying in the house this week. Oh Dustin, Dustin, Dustin….America doesn’t like cocky players, and your fate (and Eric’s for that matter) is in the hands of America. If America chooses to have Eric evict Dustin then this could be the first week that America’s vote actually sends a player home. This is getting good!!

Random Thoughts by GMMR….

  • I wonder if Daniele ever once told her father to not use the POV on her and save himself. I’ve watched a bit of the live feeds over the past two weeks and it seems that Dani has always assumed that Dick was going to save her. If it were me I would have at least pretended to be modest. I wonder if Dick is getting played by his daughter.
  • Jessica is the most easily swayed houseguest- a title formerly held by Amber. The minute someone mentions a possible strategy or alliance to Jessica, she gets all confused. It’s good to consider every possibility, but it’s also time to start playing this game Jessica. Start paying attention to everything and stop letting others influence you.
  • Late the hate comments come my way, but as of now I’m sticking with my girl Jameka. All the houseguests are flawed, but she definitely seems the most mature of all of them, and I like the way she handles herself. I’m not bothered as some are by her religion’s role in this game. At least she’s not wavering on that. She’s become somewhat like a mother figure to Amber and Jessica and I think that’s going to serve her well in this game as those girls won’t want to cross her anytime soon.
  • Jen needs to keep her yapper shut and stay out of the way of the houseguests for the next week or so. She’s survived the heat and now it’s time to fly under the radar and let the LNC crew and others cannibalize themselves.
  • Dick drives me crazy. I despise with every ounce of my being how he treats the other houseguests. Call it strategy, but I just call it being inhumane. Yet at the same time, he’s this gentle soul when it comes to his daughter. I think he’s legit in wanting nothing more that to reconnect with Dani outside the house. I’m not convinced that Dani will put in the effort once Dick has nothing to offer her. I think she knows she has him in the palm of her hand and she’s working that as much as she can until he leaves.
  • Did we see an entire episode without Amber crying? Really?

Ok enough from me. Where are you all standing on the houseguests? Who would you like to see sent home this week, Dustin or Dick?

I really hope it’s Dick that goes home this week. I can’t believe BB is letting him treat the other houseguests that way…imagine if he was arguing about Judaism or Muslim religions instead of Christianity? I don’t think they (Big Brother or the HG) should let Dick stay in the house. I don’t find him entertaining – he’s a mean bully.

I’m confused though – Erik has to vote the way America tells him to? I think he should have the option, and if he doesn’t, he fails the task, and no $. I don’t think it’s fair to him to force him to vote a certain way.

I like Daniele and I hope she makes some friends soon. Jen should keep laying low – that is definitely in her best interest.

I’m with you Jenny. I actually thought that Eric had the option to ignore America’s vote but in turn he forfeited the money.

It’s weird b/c Julie doesn’t even ask him his vote…they just chat during his turn in the DR. I don’t like that…he barely squeaked by last week, and it seems like he redeemed himself somehow this week. If America has him vote for Dustin (and assuming the rest of the LNC vote for Dick to go), I’m not sure how he’ll be able to survive in the house. Despite him saying on the show tonight that Dick/Dani “attacked his character with total lies”, the other HG must still be suspicious of Eric, no??

    Your favorite is Jameka?!?

    boooooooooooooo!

  5. Mannie on August 15th, 2007 8:44 am

I totally agree about Jameka. I’d like to see either her or Jessica win. I never thought I’d like Jessica, but it seems almost everyone else has gone downhill. I think Zach has a good shot as well. People are all over everyone else and he learned to fly under the radar.

I also think it’s unfair to make Eric vote a certain way. I think he should see who America choose and if he doesn’t vote that way, he doesn’t get the money.

I honestly see Dustin going home this weekend. I figured out the votes in my head. Dustin only has Amber and Jameka. I know America will vote for Eric to vote Dustin out and I can easily see Danielle, Jen and Zach vote Dustin out. I tried to go online several times last night and vote for Eric to get Dick out, but it wouldn’t take my vote. It always told me the page was unavailable. I wonder if I’m the only one who that happened to. If not, I think BB is playing America to keep drama in the house.

I was able to vote for Dustin to go home many times last night online and I love it! I hope the little bitch goes home (and I can call him a bitch, my being gay and all too – it’s a benefit of not only being a card carrier but a member) – it will make for the BEST TV EVER!

Eric doesn’t have a choice in the vote, it’s AMERICA’S VOTE and we decide who goes home. That’s why I made sure to vote for Dustin, I worship the thought of Evel being in the game for another week!

Kath, I cannot believe that you’re backing Jameka. She sucks so much holy water, it’s not even funny. Remember that this i the girl that let god decide that Jen should stay in the house. I wonder if she would have played the Veto for Dick if she would have let God guide her in her decision making. Doubt it, bet she’d drop that cross she was bearing for one week. God’s expendible that way, didn’t you know?

After Dustin and Eric, Jameka’s next on my list to go.

I too think that Dustin is going home this week. I don’t think Eric gets a choice about his vote which is very risky for him. I think they should at least give him a choice so he can save himself and try for the big win. I’m sure there will be major fallout from Dustin getting the boot and Eric will probably be going home.

This show will be SO boring if ED leaves and I really dislike Dustin, so I’m hoping it’s him. At this point, I hope Jen takes the whole thing.

  9. Heber on August 15th, 2007 11:34 pm

If Eric has the option then he should not risk voting for Dustin this week. I know he forfeits some money but in the long run it betters his chances to win the BIG bucks at the end.

I HATE Dick but I’m starting to dislike Daniele too. She was complaining to the HGs about how everyone associates her with her Dad but that’s because she does. If he was my father I would have denounced him LONG ago and made it clear to him that his behavior was unacceptable if he wanted to repair our relationship. The fact that she doesn’t seem to care at all that he is the spawn of satan is pretty bad and I agree with Jameka on that.

Right now I hope Jameka or Jessica win. Everyone else is psycho, stupid, or selfish.

  10. Rivi on August 16th, 2007 1:37 am

Ummm Jameka has showed her TRUE self this past week on the show. When she played the POV for Jen, it was “God’s pre-determined plan” but she sure didn’t say that this week huh? So which is it?

    AND….

What about miss religious calling Dick’s mother a “bitch” ????

She is one of those people who are holier than thou…when it suits her. Can you say hypocrite? I can …. HYPOCRITE JAMEKA. I can’t stand her, I can’t stand her phoney ways, I can’t stand how she is using christianity in the game and she needs to go home ASAP.

  11. Dave on August 16th, 2007 4:35 pm

Agreed. Jameka is the 2nd biggest hypocrite in the house, after Daniele.

I am also in the camp that Eric should be allowed to ditch both the vote and the money. Honestly, he should have ignored the silent treatment task.

It’s all moot now. Dustin is gone, and there’s a good chance Eric goes next week. It’s not like Amber has any reason to keep him around if Dustin goes.

It’s a real shame – the neo-LNC of Eric, Jameka, Dustin, Amber, and Jessica could have easily brought themselves to the final 5. Now it changes rapidly.

Jen is an idiot. Don’t make an alliance with Daniele. Unless you plan to stab her in the back.
