Fall Preview: BIONIC WOMAN

Bionic Woman on GMMR

Premiere Date: Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Airs: Wednesdays @ 9pm on NBC

Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teenage sister, Jaime Sommers (Michelle Ryan, “EastEnders”) didn’t think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death’s door, Jaime’s only hope for survival is a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price. With a whole new existence and a debt to re-pay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good, while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it’s Jaime’s journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as the Bionic Woman.

The premise coupled with the fact that the producers are the same team behind Battlestar Galactica made BIONIC WOMAN the new Fall show I was most anxious to see when it was first announced. But if I’m being completely honest the pilot didn’t meet my expectations. I think this show has potential…a lot of potential, but the pilot was riddled with issues. There was so much story crammed into the first hour that it really lacked character development. If viewers are expected to care about what happens to Jamie Sommers now that she’s the bionic woman, we need to first care about Jamie Sommers. I’m going to go ahead and give this one the benefit of the doubt and see if they can produce a more cohesive storyline over the next few episodes. On a more positive note, fans of BSG will love seeing Katee Sackhoff in another kickass role. She was the best part of the pilot by far!!

If you want a sneak peek at BIONIC WOMAN today there are a few ways to check it out. If you have OnDemand as part of your cable lineup NBC is offering the pilot to view for free. The first episode is also available at Blockbuster and online at Amazon Uncut.

Michelle Ryan as Jamie Sommers on BIONIC WOMAN Chris Bowers as Will Anthros on BIONIC WOMAN Katee Sackhoff as Sarah Corvus on BIONIC WOMAN Lucy Hale as Becca Sommers in BIONIC WOMAN Molly Price as Ruth Truewell and Miguel Ferrer as Jonas Bledsoe in BIONIC WOMAN

I totally agree with you! I grew up with Jamie Summers and Steve Austin and as cheezy as those 70’s shows were, you liked the characters and cared what happened to them. I don’t really give a crap about this Jamie. I didn’t like her much before she was bionic and I can’t see how they are going to make me care. She’s not that great a person.

I watched the pilot OnDemand and wasn’t wowed either. I’m guessing they’ll have flashbacks that show us who Jaime used to be, but for now I’m not sure it’s going to stay on my Must Watch list. I’ll give it a few more episodes before I bail, but they better impress me next time. I was sadly disappointed…

I too watched the pilot early and was a bit disappointed. However, it is just the pilot and so many shows start out mediocre before becoming great. I am going to give this one time.

There is no way that any of these generic actresses that TV is foisting on us these days will capture the vulnerability of Jaime Summers the way that Lindsay Wagner could.

    sigh…those eyes…….

I have to say, I hated the pilot of Battlestar too–thought it was long and boring with too much going on, but then I was hooked, and I mean HOOKED. (As a rule, if Dwight Schrute loves it, there’s a good chance I do too.) So I’ll give this one a couple weeks.
