So Say We All: YOUR Take on Monday Night TV (Updated)

October 2, 2007 by

Due to some technical difficulties, I didn’t get to watch all my shows last night. Rather than throw a fit I went into a Zen-like place where visions of John Krasinski, Zach Levi and Lee Pace calmed me down and sang sweet songs of love. What? Um, moving on…

In today’s post, let’s “so say we all” it up about:

  • Aliens in America/Journeyman/Heroes/How I Met Your Mother
  • …and any and all other shows you watched last night

What did YOU think of last night’s TV?

Chuck
Let’s hold off on CHUCK right now. GMMR recapper SB will here in just a bit with her recap and it’s might be better to wait until you hear what she has to say about last night’s show.

Aliens in America
Aliens in America
Soooo…what did you think? Did you like it? I really with The CW would move this show to Tuesday nights so I could watch it every week. I’m going to try to swing it if I can. I’m really interested in hearing what you all thought of the show, well at least those of you who watched it, because if you didn’t watch it…well, never mind.

I’m actually really bummed that I didn’t record last night’s episode. I had figured that since I had already seen it there was no point in watching it again. But there was!! The version I saw was the original pilot and didn’t have Scott Patterson (Luke, Gilmore Girls) as the dad. I was really interested to see him in the role. Bummer. How was he? Did he seem to fit in?

So will Aliens in America make it into your TV appointment book?

Journeyman
Journeyman
Is anyone digging this show as much as I am?  When I first watched the pilot I was really worried that it was going to be too confusing for people to follow, but after last night’s episode I can see that they’ve gone almost with a procedural approach.  I like that each week Dan has a new story to follow and help resolve.  I found myself way more caught up in the story than I thought I would be. I feel like it’s a little Quantum Leap and a little Without a Trace but with a little more heart.

Here’s what I do have a problem with.  Why aren’t Dan and his wife Katie freaking out more?  The guy in time traveling and they’re almost like “eh, you missed dinner”. What?! And is anyone else in the camp that Dan should NEVER hold his child again?  What is he just disapparted and dropped the kid on his head? (And is ‘disapparate’ an acceptable term or is that just a Potterism?). Finally, I need some payoff with the dead ex-girlfriend soon.  What’s her story and why is she on Dan’s journeys with him?  Isn’t she dead?!

Heroes
Heroes
This is where I’d like to talk about last night’s episode of HEROES, but I can’t since my stupid DVR didn’t record it. I have no idea what happened. I even checked the “scheduled recordings” around 8pm and Heroes was on there. Bastards! I did catch the 2nd half of the episode though, but if I’m being honest it made zero sense to me because I so needed to see the first half.

I’m glad that Clare’s little boy toy has powers of his own. It’s so hard to find somebody that really gets you during your high school years. What?! I really hope the writers roll out a storyline that indicates that Hunter (what’s this new guy’s name? I’m going to call him Hunter for now) knew about Clare’s abilities all along. I’d really hate to think that the writers would want us to believe that it’s by pure coincidence that the only person that Clare knows in her new school is a guy that can just happen to fly. Really?

Peter Petrelli…DAMN! I’ve never been a fan of Milo Ventimiglia, well not in the way that other women are fans, but damn the boy is looking good lately. He can remain shirtless for every ep and you won’t hear any complaints from me. I’m kind of digging this whole ‘Bourne Identity’ storyline where Peter isn’t sure of his powers. That being said, he sure knows how to control them. Which is more than I can say for Maya. What’s up with her? She’s like one of those bleeding statues of Mary’s or something. Was something about her power explained in the first half that I missed? Can she really kill someone with her tears?

I’m going to catch up on HEROES later today on NBC.com, but feel free to discuss below. I’m always interested to read how you all are enjoying the storylines. I can’t wait to see Kristen Bell!!

How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother
Sniff…sniff. This didn’t record either. And it’s not up on CBS.com yet. Why me?! WHY ME!!! I heard from last year’s HIMYM recapper, Jim Mosby, that last night’s episode wasn’t great. Is How I Met Your Mother in trouble? Did you like last night’s episode?!

Also up for discussion…

Dancing with the Stars – anyone running away with the competition?
The Big Bang Theory – is anyone watching?
…whatever else was on TV that you want to talk about.

Ok, your turn to talk!!

The only show I watched last night was HIMYM. I enjoyed it! Nothing really exciting, but fun to see Barney and Ted out looking for girls together. And I’m glad that storyline with Robin is over. But what’s with Ted’s hair?! Weird. 🙂

  3. Merrie on October 2nd, 2007 10:20 am

HIMYM was the only show I watched lact night, too, and it was OK. It wasn’t bad by any means, but I hope something legendary happens soon because this show needs to build (and keep) its audience!

  4. Savhynot on October 2nd, 2007 10:33 am

HIMYM was fun (Marshall is like crack for me), though not up to some of their more legendary episodes (slapbet, etc.). I think they could have done more with Barney & Ted’s storyline, but maybe it was great for true NYrs. Overall last season was similar, with some truly laugh-out-loud pieces and then some that were just good for a smile.

  5. Jo on October 2nd, 2007 10:43 am

Agreed. HIMYM was good but not legendary.

Meanwhile, Big Bang is hilarious. Truly *the* geek show of the year. Sheldon talking about how Lois should’ve been sliced into three pieces sealed it for me. The only thing I don’t like is the laugh track.

Kath – I think Scott actually did pretty well as the dad on AiA. I was dreading it a bit but I was pleasantly surprised. I kinda of prefer the original dad but Scott fits in and actually does manage to look like he could be Justin’s dad.

I actually liked this week’s HIMYM more than last week’s but I’m always on the opposite side of the fence from the crowd when it comes to comedies.

The big surprise for me last night was Big Bang Theory. I am just a geek at heart, and I haven’t laughed out loud that much in a long time at any show other than The Office. I really hope this one makes it because the writing and actors are much funnier than I expected. My other favorite was Heroes, which I enjoyed a lot more than the premier last week. There was enough action with Peter and enough movement in the stories to really keep me interested.

Chuck was entertaining, but I wasn’t overly impressed with that episode. I liked it, but am glad to hear that the next episode is better. I thought Aliens in America was fun, so I will keep checking it out, but the pilot wasn’t enough for me to really get a feel of the show yet. I was a bit disappointed in HIMYM. I always watch it, but thought it was missing something last night.

That was a lot of t.v., so I didn’t catch Journeyman yet, but I did record it. How am I going to keep up with Mondays? Samantha Who hasn’t even started yet.

  8. Rayne on October 2nd, 2007 11:46 am

I really like Journeyman. I think think if he is just sure his head isn’t hurting when he picks up his kid, he should be ok. I believe the term ‘disapparate’ is definitely an exceptable term. And yeah… they should be freaking out a tad more. Maybe they do their freak-out during the times we don’t get to see, or if we did see pretty much everything… maybe it is just happening to quickly that they don’t really have time to freak out about it. OR maybe they are robots.

  9. Omeletville on October 2nd, 2007 12:00 pm

I caught most of AiA (DVRed the rest) and I actually liked it quite a bit. I really didn’t think I would, but due to good reviews, decided the check it out. It’s really pretty great-especially for a pilot episode. And I was very resistant to the idea of Scott P playing the dad, but he really pulled it off.

I’ll def. start watching it…now, if only there were less tv to watch on Monday noght. I still haven’t watched Journeyman yet…

Heroes: haha I enjoyed Heroes dramatic “Next week… find out what’s in ::dun dun dun:: the BOX!” – it cracked me up… it’s just not as catchy as our past slogans 😉 Sylar better freakin’ be back next week! They’ve been promising me him for 3 weeks and i’m getting mad 🙁 – Peter was HOT. All the subtitles are a little annoying – if I wanted to read, I’d get a book. If one “couple” is in a different language – fine, I can deal with that but they had three different languages going on tonight! I just can’t bring myself to care about the new characters (except Wes) – the wonder twins are annoying. I KNEW Hiro was going to be the one who did all of Kensai’s awesome things! And Kensai is a Hero?! Interesting… people mentioned that perhaps he was the origin?

HIMYM: I agree with all that’s been said, it was a cute episode but it wasn’t amazing.. and WHERE is my Marshall? I want one 🙁

Big Bang Theory: What the hell? I wanted to hate this show 🙁 and it made me laugh so much.. crap! It was actually very witty and Sheldon is kind of adorable so now I have to watch…

I’m about to watch “Prison Break” and “Chuck” now so I’ll get back to you on those.

On Journeyman,my theory on Livia (the-ex girlfriend) is that she is also a “Journeyman” but her target is Dan. She journeyed while she was on her plane and everyone assumed she was dead when it crashed but she journeyed out like Dan did.

This is why she can give him all the tips. (Cell phone, money etc.) because she’s been doing it.

  12. megmarmor on October 2nd, 2007 2:37 pm

Is anyone watching Big Bang Theory?

Absolutely! It’s smart and intelligent in a very dumb way. It makes light of nerds who really have no social skills/common sense.

I may be biased; I did go to Georgia Tech and see this caricature often. Which also might explain why all my friends are watching and really enjoying it as well.

    Journeyman:
I really enjoy this show as well. A new twist on the hero storyline. I would just like to explore the relationship between his wife and his brother more. I mean come on, his fiance dies, so he marries his brother’s girlfriend? Or, why was his wife dating his brother to begin with when it was obvious she was really in love with Dan?

    HIMYM:
Not the best episode. Then again, I’m sure it was hard to beat last week. It will get better.

    Chuck:
I have to agree with your comment that next week’s episode looks much better than this week’s…but I’m still in for the long haul.

  13. L.A on October 2nd, 2007 3:04 pm

I love big bang theory! I was laughing outloud at the episode last night which never happens anymore. Even the girl who is someone I would normally be annoyed with make me laugh, especially with just the looks she gives the guys when she doesn’t get them.

Journeyman is good I am waiting for them to explain a little bit more. I mean the spot on the airplane where she’s kinda complaining that he married someone else bugged me, who is she to bitch? And the whole thing with her not telling him about the baby scare and being a mother, makes me kind of not like her.

On Heroes I totally agree that Milo is looking hot, I honestly did not reqcognize him last week and part of this week. I was really wondering who the new hero was, I’m just not used to peter looking so hot. The whole high school thing with clare is a little weird, hopfully they will explain it in a way that makes sense and not assume that it is pure coinsidence but I am sure that storyline will take forever to come out. I am also wondering about the twins. If the brother can bring people back like he did with that old lady this week why didn’t he do that to all the people his sister killed last week?

I’m also going to stick with chuck, but I’m glad that next weeks episode is better, but this one wasn’t too bad, I mean if thats a mediocre episode for them then I think they’ll keep doing pretty good.

No regular TV programming last night – too busy watching the best baseball game ever!!!

Rockies beat the Padres – My Sports Boyfriend Matt Holliday gets the batting title – lfie is good!!!

Go Rocks – bringing the fun back to baseball.

  15. Melissa on October 2nd, 2007 6:29 pm

Count me among the surprised Big Bang fans. I thought it was going to be BEYOND terrible, but it was really, really funny. Last night was the first time I’d watched it…also the first time I ever watched HIMYM and an entire episode of Heroes. It was a very transformative evening for me.

  16. magstress on October 2nd, 2007 9:23 pm

I am really starting to like the Big Bang theory. I actually laughed more at it than I did at HIMYM. It wasn’t the best episode and I was a little weirded out by seeing old Marshall and Lily. I hope that doesn’t become a new feature.
Heroes was really good but I’m not of fan of the twins and grew a little bored during Hiro’s courting of the swordmaker’s daughter. Also, for some reason I was really annoyed at Clare for forgetting to lock her new car. They must pay well at the Kopy Kingdom

  17. Forts on October 3rd, 2007 12:01 am

In the most recent Journeyman he mentions something about her disappearing off of a plane. I don’t think she died. I can’t remember if they have said that before or not though. I could be wrong.
