PRISON BREAK Spinoff in the Works

October 24, 2007 by

WARNING! The following contains minor spoilers for upcoming episodes of Prison Break. Read at your own risk.

Prison Break SpinoffAre you ready for another break out? According to Variety, a spinoff to Fox’s PRISON BREAK is in the works, but this time around Michael Scofield won’t be the one breaking out. Tentatively titled “Prison Break: Cherry Hill”, the new show focuses on Molly, a character that viewers of Prison Break will meet later this season. Molly is an upper middle-class wife who seeks out vengeance after a family tragedy. While serving time for her misdeeds, Molly learns that some of her family members may still be alive and decides she needs to do whatever she can to get out of jail and to them – even if that means breaking out.

“Cherry Hill” is being written by Prison Break executive producer, Matt Olmstead who says of the new character, “There is an ironic similarity between Molly and Michael — they’re both emotionally banged-up, both have lost loved ones, and both want the people responsible to pay — so they empathize with each other,” Olmstead said.

Viewers can expect to see a lot of Molly when she is introduced to Prison Break later this season. If the spinoff doesn’t move forward, Molly will stay with the show as a series regular.

So PRISON BREAK fans…what do you think of a possible spinoff?

    LAWL. Whatevs.

The PB lot and FOX will never learn.

How about they concentrate on the train wreck express, PB before they get all prematurely excited about a show that I highly doubt will happen.

I would have much preferred a spinoff to the bullshit they dragged into it toward the end of last season, but I think it’s kind of too little/too late for me, since I have lost all faith in them and felt like they sold out and completely cheapened their artistic vision.

I think it would be a good idea to create the spinoff and get rid of the original… PB doesn’t cut it unless someone is breaking out of prison- last season was a complete bust… They could definitely carry on the show if they continue to do this. I’m glad they realize that they need to do something to reinvigorate the Prison Break name…

    **spoiler**
I have a hard time with this idea. I am a huge PB fan and I just dont know how they will do this. This Molly is supposed to be the new love interest for Michael. The fans are already going to be unhappy about this because of Sara’s death, but it will make it even more unlikely I will be able to enjoy their relationship if I know that Fox is just going to pluck her off and create a new show!

I agree something needs to change, this show doesnt have the long lifespan of a sitcom or procedural drama, but I just dont know what it is. Perhaps it needs to end. I dont know…

Um good luck? I am with Annie, I don’t see how FOX and the writers think veiwers will follow some Sara replacement to a whole new show when they have already shown how little they care about the characters they have already created. She had better be some superstar character is all I can say. Because right now, I am only watching to see how it all ends. Not because I actually care anymore.

    Thanks Patty…

Oh and the fact that they havent even cast an actress yet makes me even more skeptical…

Speaking of them not casting the role yet… anyone have any opinions as to who a good Molly will be (not as a Michael/Molly relationship goes, but in the spin off role)…

ha, what? My BIGGEST attraction to “Prison Break” is Wentworth and if he’s not in it then I see no reason to watch. Besides, PB’s rating aren’t even that great in the first place are they? Why don’t they try creating something new (and good) and not cancelling it once it gets good (IE: Reunion, Tru Calling, etc.)

    I have an idea!

    How about….

    Prison Break: Cancelled

prison break died for me when they (not so skillfully) beheaded Dr. Tancredi.

    buh-bye prison break.

I think they were already pushing their luck with a 3rd season. I love this show, and have really enjoyed everything I’ve seen so far (except the head in the box and any scene with LJ in it). I didn’t think there was any way to keep Michael around as an under-the-radar professional escapee. Having The Company seek him out to do this was a good twist that I feel justifies a 3rd season. Beyond that, how the hell will he ever be able to go to any prison again without everyone knowing that he’s there to break out? I think 3 is a charm, and let’s just end it with what little dignity it has left. It’s a fun show, but it’s starting to take itself too seriously.

Depending on how this is handled it could turn out to be the stupidest idea in the long sad history of stupid ideas in the TV industry or it might work (but then again I thought basing a TV series on the Geico caveman was a REALLY stupid idea but it looks like its taking off).

It all just depends. The casting of Molly would have to be home run for it to be even considered and we really don’t have any idea about how Molly will be introduced in the current season of PB. Yes we know that she’s looking for revenge when her family is murdered and that she gets thrown in jail for her “misdeeds”. Well what does that mean? For all we know the spin off show could all take place before she meets Michael in Panama and all the action takes place concurrently with what we’ve already seen in PB.

    Something to think about.

    Cheers,

    Kaibosh

Hey, I think it’s great. This is a great show and to have another like it is only better. That’s two shows to watch instead of one. Bring it on!

  15. Billiam on October 24th, 2007 8:10 pm

It’s not a terrible to restart Prison Break with new characters and scenarios, but I don’t really even see why it needs to spin off from the current one.
Oh, and I actually disagree with alot of posters in that I enjoyed the second season quite a bit. But the second season should have been the end. I had already quit watching before Sara died (mainly because of the large amount of good new shows on Monday).

  16. Annie on October 25th, 2007 3:11 pm

Billiam- I also really liked Season 2…I just was always hoping for a “sail off into the sunset” sort of ending to the show…now thats shot.

kilwiggle7- I am having a hard time figuring out who they should cast in this role…I am thinking something like the Jennifer Garner in Alias role…cute and normal looking, but also able to kick some A$$ too. What do you think?
