GOSSIP GIRL: Masks Don’t Hide Anything

Gossip Girl Cast

It pained me not to watch GOSSIP GIRL last night. I don’t think I realized just how much I liked this show until I found myself staring at MK’s review from last night contemplating whether or not I should read it. I broke down and did…spoilers be damned, I couldn’t resist. It’s a great review, so a round of applause for GMMR gust blogger, MK!!!Episode “The Handmaiden’s Tale”
Original Airdate: 10.24.07

A Saturday night for your humble reviewer, a commoner, can mean pajamas and Netflix. However, no one wants to watch me, so the CW brings you face to face with an Upper East Side Saturday night for last night’s episode of Gossip Girl.

For Blaire and crew, it’s a masquerade ball replete with avant-garde fashion, Phantom of the Opera-styled masks, and a dash of Marie Antoinette frivolity for good measure (i.e., rich people stuff). For Rufus, Lily, and the rest of the parentals, it’s “Night on the Tangier”, a Moroccan-themed party that infused extra-spicy hookups, hookahs and Lebanese brothel dancers into an eclectic dish of middle-aged celebration (i.e., older rich people stuff). They both looked like fantastic parties to me, but like all Josh Schwartz parties, there’s got to be a fair share of drama and these two didn’t disappoint.

The Funny
First and foremost, Rufus and Lily’s intense kiss at Eleanor’s “Night on the Tangier” party…What can I say other than I laughed because I know where this is heading. One hyphenated word: half siblings. I’m guessing the love child is Eric which makes the attraction he has with Jenny no bueno. Seriously, am I the only one seeing this coming?

I also laughed at Nate’s mother’s use the Vanderbilt engagement ring to seduce Eleanor into choosing Nate’s father as her banker. Fingers crossed that Blaire’s been doing her hand exercises because that ring was heavier than the dialogue itself.

The Awkward
The awkward elephant in the room conversation Blaire and Serena had before the party. The fact that Blaire doesn’t mind talking about losing her virginity to the man who quite possibly deflowered her best friend was deliciously absurd.

I’ll admit it was nice seeing Dan, ever the Lloyd Dobbler, take the initiative to arrive at the party sans invitation to show Serena how much he cares for her. I’m also glad the 25 year old looking guy Serena took to prove how over Dan she was ended up not causing a wrinkle in their nascent relationship. But you know who might?

Vanessa, Dan’s best friend and the girl he “loved” not loves. Ouch. Is she supposed to be Joey to Dan’s Dawson with the whole climbing into his bedroom? Please don’t go there. I’m not a big fan of hers already, just like I’m not a fan of Nate’s father for doing drugs and blaming his son. (“I learned them by watching you dad, I learned them by watching you!”)

The Hero
My hero last night, however, was Jenny. Not only did she score a major smooch from Nate, who thought she was Serena by way of a mask and coat switcheroo, but she finally got revenge on Chuck. Jenny first seduced him then left him stuck on the roof with nothing but some boxers and a t-shirt. Now if only we can get her to stop catering to Blaire’s every wish and command.

Overall a decent episode, except for one thing…masks don’t really hide anything people.

So what did you guys think? Are things really over between Nate and Blaire or did their respective parents just set up an arranged marriage? Comment Below.

I agree, masks do not hide anything. That is why I have never understood how nobody in Gotham City knew who was Batman was/is? He is Bruce Wayne…are you blind? I guess if I get really long bangs, I can obtain a different personality. Great review.

I agree with Rita about the mask thing. The whole time I was like, “Gee, I hope Nate gets that last clue or else he’ll NEVER find Blair. I mean she has that mask that she sometimes holds up and when she does hold it up it covers an entire 1/5 of her face! How will he be able to do it without that clue?” I mean, seriously, people. This show doesn’t make sense a lot of the time. But…. I still like it and am willing to suspend reality when I watch it b/c I like to look at Serena’s hair. Good recap too.

Points i’ve seen in terms of computer memory could be the fact you’ll find technical specs such as SDRAM, DDR and numerous other people, that ought to match the functions with the motherboard. If the personal computer’s motherboard is fairly current while you will find no operating-system issues, changing the memory literally takes under sixty minutes. It’s one of several easiest personal computer upgrade techniques 1 can picture. Thanks for giving your ideas.
