What to Watch…Friday, November 9, 2007

November 9, 2007 by

I only watch two shows on Friday night. While MOONLIGHT has captured my interest we all know that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is my love.  Hands down it is the best drama on TV.  And I know I’ve been a Debbie Downer lately with all the strike talk but I just call it as I see it.  And my call here is that unless the strike ends very soon, I think the next few episodes is all we might see of Friday Night Lights. I think NBC might use the strike as a way to ‘clean house’ and get rid of the shows that aren’t preforming well in the ratings.  I hope that isn’t the case but you never know.  The holds true for MOONLIGHT and all the freshman series.

Please tune in tonight and show the networks that you care about quality scripted television.

And in the words to The Office’s Jenna Fischer, “Let’s end the strike for Riggins”…amen sister!!

Friday Night Lights | 9pm on NBC
Friday Night Lights“How Did I Get Here”
Building pressure forces Landry to tell his dad the truth about the killing; the arrival of Tami’s sister (Jessalyn Gilsig) prompts Tami to reexamine the life she’s leading; and Riggins has something to prove after he’s kicked off the team.

Moonlight | 9pm on CBS
Moonlight“The Ringer”
Mick investigates an arson that destroys a legendary Hollywood hotel. The probe is made more mysterious when Mick realizes the fire eerily replicates the circumstances under which his former wife, Coraline, died.

Also on…

  • Ghost Whisperer | 8pm on CBS
  • Men in Trees | 8pm on ABC
  • Women’s Murder Club | 9pm on NBC
  • Numb3rs | 10pm on ABC
  • Las Vegas | 10pm on NBC
  • Next Great American Band | 8pm on Fox

GMMR’s daily “What to Watch” is powered by MeeVee’s interactive TV listings.

Since there aren’t much in the way of breakout hits this season, I’m very much afraid that networks will just call the season a bust, scrap nearly all their new shows (and also underperformers like FNL and 30 Rock), and figure they’ll start over fresh next season. I don’t want Chuck and Journeyman to be canceled (although I also wish they got better ratings; who are these people with Nielsen boxes? Because there taste in TV is often pretty sucky).
That would have to be pretty painful for some of these writers, (moreso for showrunners) to watch shows that you worked so hard on, and that have developed at least some sort of a fan base, die due to the strike.
I don’t know why the execs can’t even attempt to throw them a bone. There’s no way the writers will give in unless they get at least a small cut of the new media. And yet, it’s hard to deny that low-talent shows like Deal or No Deal or reality shows often get better ratings than the high-input scripted shows (seriously, why can’t I have a Nielsen box?).

Yay FNL Fridays, second only to Office Thursdays! 😉 Love that Jenna loves FNL – yes, let’s end the strike for Riggins. I really hope the strike won’t mean the end of shows that aren’t getting huge ratings. It would be such an incredible shame for the wonderful writers of FNL (and other shows) to lose their current jobs because they had to fight for an important cause to benefit them in the long run.

FNL is easily the best show on television. It would be absolutely devastating if it got cancelled!
