2008 Golden Globe Nominations – TV

December 13, 2007 by

The nominations for the 2008 Golden Globes were announced just minutes ago in Hollywood. Here are the nominations in the TV categories…a few shockers!! To say that I was surprised to see that THE OFFICE wasn’t nominated for Best Comedy is an understatement. But I’m not as disappointed in that oversight as I am that once again FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was ignored in every category. It’s just egregious. Is the Hollywood Foreign Press even watching the show? I just don’t understand!! On the lighter side, I’m over the moon to see that PUSHING DAISIES and its stars, Lee Pace & Anna Friel, were nominated in the comedy categories.

Wow! No Office for best comedy? I have no words.
I am happy about PD though, but still.

  3. Alyson on December 13th, 2007 10:33 am

No Office for best comedy??? This is just sad. Also no love for Friday Night Lights, again!

Am glad to see that Pushing Daisies got a nod, especially for Ned and Chuck.

  4. CrazyGringa on December 13th, 2007 10:38 am

Oh yeah, no FNL or Kyle Chandler? Boo

  5. Jonathan on December 13th, 2007 10:42 am

No Office? What are these people doing? Also how can they have 7 nominees for best dramatic actress and no Connie Britton?

  6. Moe on December 13th, 2007 10:43 am

No Office, but Entourage?!? This is egregious!!! I’ve never seen Californicaiton, so I can’t comment, but Entourage makes me want to gouge my eyes out. Its just a bunch of spoiled brats running around Hollywood, and it gets nominated over the genius that is the Office? I just don’t understand.

I am really happy for 30 Rock and Pushing Daisies, but the absence of the Office makes me feel like somebody is hitting my soul in the crotch with a frozen sledgehammer.

  7. kilwiggle7 on December 13th, 2007 10:45 am

I’m sad about the lack of love for The Office and FNL… FNL has some of the best acting on tv and come on now, i can’t say anything about the office that you all aren’t already thinking.. it’s amazing..

now i really hope the Globes don’t happen!

  8. Give Me My Remote on December 13th, 2007 10:45 am

I was surprised to see no nom for THE OFFICE but I get it. I can’t say that I think Californication should have a nom, but I’ve never seen it so I can’t really say. But if we are being honest here, this season of The Office hasn’t been the best. The hour long episodes really brought down the show when they are up against the like of shows like 30 Rock and Pushing Daisies who have been solid and unwavering all season.

  9. lauren85 on December 13th, 2007 10:52 am

This is the first place I read the nominations, and I literally had to stare at the Best Comedy category for about 5 minutes before I processed The Office wasn’t on there! Although, I am happy for Pushing Daisies!

  10. Melody on December 13th, 2007 11:00 am

As dismayed as I am that The Office wasn’t nominated for best comedy, I am really happy about the nominations for Pushing Daisies. The thing that had me literally screaming out loud at the end of last night’s episode was the fear that the writers’ strike would effectively kill the show, and that it wouldn’t be picked up in 2008. Any publicity or buzz that Pushing Daisies gets is, then, a great thing in my book.

  11. Give Me My Remote on December 13th, 2007 11:06 am

Glad to see the Pushing Daisies love from The Office fans. I am personally much more upset about FNL than The Office or any other nomination. I am in shock.

  12. Emily on December 13th, 2007 11:21 am

Most of the nominations weren’t what I would like, but there are some good ones.
And, if The Office couldn’t get more nods, I am glad Pushing Daises did, because its the other comedy I love.

  13. mg714 on December 13th, 2007 11:25 am

I was so disappointed not to see The Office nominated. Yes, granted the hourlong shows weren’t as good as most episodes but any episode of The Office is more often much better than any other show’s best episode. At least Steve was nominated, but I was also hoping he’d be nominated for best comedy motion picture actor as well.

I was also disappointed for no FNL recognition but I wasn’t at all surprised. This is the Hollywood Foreign Press – they probably just see the show as being about American football and don’t pay attention to it. I wish Kyle Chandler or Connie Britton had at least gotten recognition, though.

The one happy thing about the noms was all the Pushing Daisies love! It’s so great they got three of the big noms. I’m rooting for the show and Anna to win and though I love Lee, Steve is always first with me! Besides, The Office should at least win its measley one nomination! 🙂 Guess this means we won’t see the whole cast at the show (if there is even a Golden Globes show). Considering how the noms turned out, I actually wouldn’t mind if there was no show this time.

  14. Billiam on December 13th, 2007 11:27 am

I like Pushing Daisies, but I think you love it a little too much, GMMR. I don’t feel Lee Pace is funnier or more talented than Alec Baldwin, Steve Carell, or Ricky Gervais. And while Anna Friel is cute, I don’t find her to be that special. I love Tina Fey, though.
Pushing Daisies also suffers from the whole “dramedy” thing. Didn’t the People’s Choice Awards put it in the drama category?
And I don’t actually watch any of those dramas, so I can’t weight in there.

  15. CrazyGringa on December 13th, 2007 11:31 am

I still think The Office is one of the best shows on TV. Just because to some this season hasn’t been up to par with other seasons (and I am not one of those to think that because I am particularly enjoying this season) doesn’t mean its still not one of the best out there. You are comparing this show to other seasons of this same show so of course some seasons will be better. Also, aren’t these GG noms based on 2007 as a whole so most of the second half of Season 3 along with Season 4 would have been considered. When compared to other shows, even this season, The Office still ranks at the top with 30 Rock, PD and Extras.

  16. Give Me My Remote on December 13th, 2007 11:32 am

I think this is Alec Baldwin’s category to lose. He’s really fantastic in that role. The episode where he goes to therapy with Tracy Jordan was genius.

I really hope there is a ceremony because I need to see Lee Pace in a tux!!

  17. JGirl on December 13th, 2007 11:33 am

I have to admit I still haven’t had the chance to jump on the FNL bandwagon (*hides her face in shame*) BUT I do think that Dexter not getting a nod in best drama is ridiculous. I don’t understand why this show doesn’t get more award show love.

  18. mg714 on December 13th, 2007 11:47 am

I just wanted to add that the WGA nominations came out yesterday and The Office got lots of recognition there – the show was nominated in the comedic series category and it got 3 nominations in the single episode category! Also, FNL was nominated in the dramatic series category.

The writers know what is good TV. Let’s hope they get back to work soon so we have more good TV to look forward to!

  19. Give Me My Remote on December 13th, 2007 12:05 pm

I just posted the WGA noms. OFFICE did get 3 noms in one category. But “Phyllis’s Wedding”…no offense to Caroline Williams, but REALLY???

  20. Mexicanity on December 13th, 2007 12:06 pm

I think it’s horrible that Office only got one nom. I’m also a believer in that I think it’s better than any show out there, be it 30 minutes, one hour or whatever. How can more of your favorite show be a bad thing? I don’t get it. My vote is for Steve. I love Lee, but I gotta support our Office, especially since it’s the only nom for the whole show.

  21. Lindsay on December 13th, 2007 1:22 pm

I’m exciting about Pushing Daisies, but I really think that Kristen Chenoweth should have gotten a nod before Anna Friel. I really don’t like Chuck…I think she’s boring and one-dimensional. To each her own, I guess.

  22. CrazyGringa on December 13th, 2007 2:06 pm

I agree Lindsay. Not that I don’t like Chuck but sometimes I don’t. Kristen Chenowith is what makes me want to tune in on that show and she never fails to make me laugh.

  23. Carli on December 13th, 2007 2:46 pm

What in the world do we have to do to get FNL some love?! It’s just ridiculous. And what about BSG…what do I have to do for them too? You know I didn’t even realize The Office wasn’t nominated at first. It just seemed ridiculous to think that it wasn’t so I guess I just skimmed over that part. My jaw literally dropped when I finally realized it.

  24. Elisabeth on December 13th, 2007 3:10 pm

    Pushing Daisies FTW!

  25. PamHalpert on December 13th, 2007 3:29 pm

GMMR – How could you pick anyone over Steve Carell???

  26. allison on December 13th, 2007 3:56 pm

I’m more excited about Pushing Daisies than any of the others. While I love the Office, it’s already gotten some Golden Globe nods in the past, so I’m hoping Lee Pace wins this one. And I want Anna Friel to win also (unlike others, I love Chuck!) but I think she might lose to Christina Applegate. And of course Kristen Chenoweth deserves a nomination also.

  27. Kevin on December 13th, 2007 4:47 pm

Here’s the thing about The Office. When they set the standards that they’ve set for comedy, everyone expects nothing less out of them.

  28. LaLa on December 13th, 2007 5:14 pm

FYI, in the miniseries category, actress Ruth Wilson was actually nominated for “Jane Eyre”, which aired on Masterpiece Theater last January and which was AWESOME.

And personally, I think The Office snubs are really bad. I agree with Kevin – The Office is so amazing, that when it’s a little less than amazing, people think it’s bad. But it’s still the best show on TV, IMO.

  29. Kris on December 13th, 2007 7:32 pm

It’s kind of sad that The Office wasn’t nominated this year. The only thing getting me past that are the many nominations for Pushing Daisies (and its cast, which is amazing–Chenoweth and McBride should have also received nominations). If it doesn’t win, then i will be extremely bitter. I’m definitely rooting for Pushing Daisies this year. If they took all the awards they were nominated for, it would make my night!
