Sarah Wayne Callies Returning to PRISON BREAK!!

March 27, 2008 by

Color me flabbergasted!!  The news just broke that Sarah Wayne Callies will be returning to PRISON BREAK next season to reprise her role as Dr. Sara Tancredi (or Dr. Tequila Tancredi as she’s known around here).  Looks like the good doctor’s head wasn’t in the box after all.

Executive Producer Matt Olmstead talked to Kristin Dos Santos from E! and Michael Ausiello from TV Guide about this breaking news.  Among other things Olmstead said that part of the decision to bring Sara back had to do with not only the fan reaction about her departure, but also the lingering question of whether or not it was really Sara’s head in the box that was delivered to Lincoln.  He also said that Season 4 will tell the story of Sara’s disappearance and the confluence of events that led up to her perceived death.

Season 3 ended with Michael off on his own trying to hunt down the Company and avenge Sara’s killers.  With her alive, that story is going to change a bit.  But the good news is that Michael and Sara will be reunited, and while I’m sure everything won’t be lollipops and origami roses, it will be nice to see these two finally together.

If you’re interested in the events that led up to Sarah Wayne Callies return to Prison Break, and hints as to how they will bring Sara Tancredi back into the fold, you should definitely check out KDS and Ausiello’s columns.  There are some spoilers in there so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

So Prison Break fans….what’s your take on this news?  I know GMMR readers were quote vocal about Sarah’s initial departure.  Are you happy to have her back?  Thoughts?

I am excited. I was pretty much over PB even though the last few eps of S3 were pretty good. But what to do with the boys with Sara dead? Now I am excited! Not excited that they are no longer filming in Dallas but I guess I can’t have everything.

I really couldn’t care less, as this show should have met it’s in when Season 2 wrapped. (I have a problem with A)having to escape from a new prison and B) being told in the beginning it was a 2 season show max and then it keeps going)
But if i did care wouldn’t this have been a better shock coming next season, instead of just revealing it months before the new season starts?

I am VERY HAPPY, but honestly I feel like I just got used to the idea of Sarah being dead and now they are bringing her back.

I am thrilled to have her back. I think she adds a nice balance to the show. I have never been in favor of the story being driven by Michael’s need for revenge. I don’t think that is true to his character. That is not the man they have been building up for all this time. I hope this will change the “Kill Gretchen” storyline they set up during this season’s finale.

I think the show is at its best when it is centered around love. Love between the Brothers, Love between Michael and Sarah, Love between the Friends (Sucre & Michael in particular)…The whole story is driven by it.

I am psyched. I was a faithful viewer through the first two seasons, but I did not watch a SINGLE episode of S3 because I found out that Sara wasn’t coming back. Now I will have a reason to watch again. The chemistry between Michael and Sara has always been amazing.

Honestly, I had a feeling something like this might happen. Not sure if it was planned all along or what, but I never 100% believed that Sara was dead.

I am beyond thrilled about this news!!! I LOVE Sara and Michael together and can’t wait to see how her 1) “death” is explained away and 2) how they are reunited.

I do agree that I wish this news had not gotten out. How awesome would it have been for it to be revealed on the show, much like Michael’s return to Lost. Nobody cared by the time it finally got here because we’d known about it for months.

Wow! That’s a shocker. I thought she was gone for good. It looks like I’m gonna be tuning back in again. I thought I was done with PB for good when they “killed” her off.

  9. garrlick on March 28th, 2008 8:32 am

Well, PB just jumped the shark. Pandering to your fans is the quickest way to lose their interest ’cause they know: if we are really loud we’re gonna get what we want!
Killing off Dr. Sara was a bold and successful move strorywise. I see absolutely no reason to sacrifice the whole story for the sake of a soap-opera like lurve tale. It had the potential to become a good tragedy. Now? It has the potential to become a hybrid of a chipmunk and cheese. I’m done with this show.

Garrlick- This show has always been soap opera like…none of it is realistic at all…the fans know that. They bought in to an impossible and far fetched storyline at the beginning…whats the difference?

That’s good news – Sarah’s great. I actually may try to tune in again when it returns – I completely skipped this season but it might be worth another chance. I’m glad they were able to work things out and bring her back.

Figures. While I liked Sara, I dislike when shows bring back main characters that were killed off. Is it because their ratings dropped? Did they run out of good plot lines? If they are dead, they are dead. If I want to watch shows were characters to come back to life after being beheaded, I’ll watch Soap Operas. Same thing happend when they killed Michael Vaughan in Alias. Don’t get me wrong, I was just as upset as the rest of you. And then they brought him back in a wishy washy plot line. It wasn’t worth it. If they ‘kill’ for the greater good of the story I’m totally fine with it.
