BONES on GMMR…No, Really

BONES on Fox

When I put out the call the other day to see if any GMMR readers would be interested in keeping the site going while I was on vacation, I was floored by the response. You all are in for a treat because we’ve got some great readers and writers taking over this week. I’m sure by the end of the week you’ll be begging me to stay on vacation.

One thing that really surprised me was how many of you wanted to cover BONES. As you all know, there’s only so many hours in the day, and as much as I would like to, I just can’t watch everything on TV. And to be honest, I feel like kind of a fraud when I try to talk about shows that I just don’t watch. It seems almost like a disservice to those of you who do watch those shows. That being said I really don’t talk about BONES much here on GMMR. But it seems a lot of you love, and I mean really love the show.

So here it is. The very first BONES post here on GMMR courtesy of Seeleybaby. Read it and enjoy, and make sure you give Seelebaby a kind GMMR round of applause.

Take it away…

What’s up Bones watchers? Glad to be back with Bones episodes, right? I have to say this one was funnier the second time I watched it, so if you have the chance, check it out again.

I’m going to break it down into three sections

1. The Case
2. The Squints
3. B+B

1. The Case…a couple on a romantic outing find a dead body in a hot spring. Gross. The team figures out that it is the body of Tripp Goddard, a motorcycle rider. Booth and Brennan go to the track to find out what is up. They meet the owners of Tripp’s bike, and a friend of his. Three or four of these people have motives. When Fitz is also killed, it puts a wrench in things (no pun intended).

2. The Squints…In this episode the squints did almost all of the lab work. Not much interaction between Angela and Hodgins, which is probably fine with most people. We did have some great Jack/Zack moments…my personal fave was when Hodgins told Zack to drop all the weapons and then they systematically chose one that could potentially be the murder weapon. The scene where those guys try to convince Cam they have information when they don’t was also great (King of the Lab!). Booth was a little snarky toward the squint squad today; not sure what that’s about, especially because they were right most of the time.

3. Booth and Bones…Sometimes I feel like the scenes between them can be too forced, or heavy handed, like the writers want us to feel something strong. The beauty of the show (IMO) is in the small moments, and I think this episode had a few of them. I’m thinking of “No changees, no take backs” and them ganging up on Sweets. Bones fans will recognize those moments as ‘symbiotic’. I also thought B+B were pretty generous toward Sweets…especially during the disastrous double date/social experiment (JFD’s face covered in clay? Aw…poor Sam Weir!). Brennan’s no relationship pro, but she caught on pretty quickly with April, and then later when Sweets was so dejected, she joined Booth’s ruse about going bowling (to the bowling rink….alley…haha!). That was a special moment. I will say that I think Brennan has developed a crush on Booth. She couldn’t keep her eyes off of him, and a couple of times, when they were talking to Sweets, she reached out her arm to touch Booth. Also, when she told April she and Booth weren’t “blue fish”, I think she wasn’t quite sure about that. Booth was kind of a stud in this episode…he doesn’t usually make “distasteful” comments, and also, he was getting into the whole sports thing.

Favorite line of the night…
1. Booth to the boyfriend: “We all do things for the girl.” Haha…like ceramics?
2. When Sweets is trying to get under Booth’s skin about the date… “We’re all going to make something…time’s up!” hahaha, and JFD and Boreanaz played it just right.

Seeleybaby is glad the writer’s strike is over but now has to clear out her DVR for new episodes of Bones, The Office, and Scrubs. She also is still sad Arrested Development isn’t on (COME ON!) and is looking forward to more Flight of the Conchords

Yay for Bones! I rather enjoyed last night’s episode. Best part, King of the Lab made me love the squints (even more). How awesome are they?

Do people not like Angela and Hodgins? I’ve never heard anyone say that. Anyway, I was sorry they didn’t have much interaction last night, but all the Bones/Booth/Sweets stuff was hilarious!

Um…it’s not that people don’t like Angela and Hodgins, it’s just that some people don’t like all the screen time their relationship has gotten, especially this season, and at what seems to be the expense of screen time for Cam and Zack etc. There are some people who hate the Sweets stuff too, so I’m guessing they won’t like last nights episode. I liked though, and i loved when Brennan said booth talked and talked on stakeouts. haha

Oh, okay, that makes sense. I do wish Cam and Zack got more screen time, but I love Angela/Hodgins (and Sweets, too), so I guess I’m easy to please. 🙂

I’m one of those aforementioned Sweets-haters … though that sounds harsh, so maybe I should just say I’m not his biggest fan. I’m growing tired of the therapy bits, but I’ll admit I felt bad for Sweets at the end, after he was dumped. The episode was just okay for me … the plot was kind of boring and drawn out, I felt, and reminded me of a similar storyline on Ghost Whisperer. The Squints definitely need more camera time – especially Zack and Cam, I agree!!

That makes sense. I think too that if Sweets is getting ‘counsel’ from B+B that maybe that means the character is over done. I mean we all loved Gordon Gordon because he swooped in and solved the problems and then left. don’t watch ghost whisperer so i’ll take your word for it.
i also think that no matter what episode was going to be the first one after the strike would feel a bit like a let down. This was filmed before the strike, so it’s not like they planned a huge comeback episode…anyways, i think a lot of shows are running into this…we’re all so excited that maybe our expectations are too high…i know mine are at least.

I really liked the episode. I was so excited to have it back. I found myself laughing out loud several times. I actually pretty much like everything that they do- Booth, Bones, Zach, Hodgins, Angela, Cam….I’m really easy to please. I know that next weeks episode is the one that didn’t air last year because of the VA Tech shootings, but I assume, at some point, they’re going to get back to the Gorgamon storyline. Although, to be honest, I’ve almost forgotten all of that. But, I’ll still be interested in seeing how it all plays out.

I really liked this episode mostly. Least favorite part was all the motorcycle stuff although the death by mud bath was cool and totally gross. I like Sweets. I think he gives B&B antoher person to play off of and gives them the opportunity to “team up” more than they would normally. I really liked the funny little moments with Zack/Jack and B&B with the squints. Are there goign to be any really “new” episodes? We get six, right? How many were filmed before the strike?

PS. I love the idea of “guest” reviewers while GMMR is on vaca – what would I do at work if there were no updates????

  10. Seeleybaby on April 16th, 2008 2:48 pm

Good question Patty. As far as I know, there were four episodes done before the strike. The one next week is actually from last season, but was postponed due to the VT massacre (BTW…today’s the anniversary for that…hope all the GMMR readers there are doing well), and the next episode after that is The Baby in the Bough, which was originally going to air before the Christmas episode…so with those two, there is one more complete, then the two from after the strike. That’s just what i’ve gathered, and not really confirmed by fox or anything.
Becky…i think this whole Gormogon thing is going to be crazy. i just hope there aren’t too many gross deaths. Knowing Bones, there will be 🙂

My wife and i got relieved Louis could round up his web research out of the ideas he obtained through your weblog. It’s not at all simplistic to just always be freely giving steps which others could have been trying to sell. And we figure out we have got the writer to appreciate for that. The specific explanations you made, the simple website menu, the friendships your site help create – it is many overwhelming, and it is leading our son in addition to our family do think that matter is excellent, which is certainly particularly indispensable. Thanks for all the pieces!
