David Cook Singing “Always Be My Baby” (Watch)

April 15, 2008 by

My friends Deb and Glenn will have the full AMERICAN IDOL recap, but I wanted to post some of my favorite videos of the night. My boy David Cook rocked it out tonight. I don’t think anything will ever top David Cook’s performance of “Billie Jean” but his take on “Always Be My Baby” was pretty special. It was an emotional performance for David whose brother, who is suffering from brain cancer, was in the audience tonight.

Did you like it as much as I did?

General question–I can never get the RedLasso links to work. Am I the only one? What am I doing wrong?

David Cook was amazing tonight!! I loved the arrangement of a song that has always been an old fave of mine (hurray for memories of middle school dances!) and I got teary eyed watching him tear up at the end.

Just added you to my twitter.

I love David Cook – just can’t wait to buy his CD. Also love the golden girls *wink* (saw that on your twitter)

I agree that Billie Jean is hard to top, but I also thought David was amazing with this song – especially after listening to it a few more times.

He is so great and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for him!

He needs to be out making records already. I’m afraid if he does win American idol, the records execs might hold him back of his creativity. So don’t you think he should at least make it to 2nd place? I think so and I’m not saying that because I’m an Archuleta fan but because I don’t want him to have to struggle with the record company like what Kelly Clarkson had to do. He’s a star in his own right and his talent shouldn’t be held back.

I worry to much with these contestants…

Don’t throw tomatoes at me, but I didn’t think this one was that great. It was good, but I really wanted to be knocked out of the park this week (after last week’s not so good song).
Don’t get me wrong, he is the BEST thing to ever happen to this show, but I just wasn’t feeling it tonight.
Oh – and I wasn’t thrilled they had to choose a MC song. Whatever…

Yep I admit it, I cried. It was a great performance, and I love his version of the song. What got me was seeing his brother and then David getting teary. Such a sad situation.

Yes the Golden Girls do rock and stand the test of time. I’m watching them now. Too bad our girls our getting shipped off to Shady Pines aka the Hallmark channel in 09.

So, SO good! I was teary by the end, too. I was so nervous, as this is my favorite Mariah song and I just wasn’t sure what he would do with it. I absolutely loved it though – and I will buy the download as soon as its available! He has a cd on Amazon, by the way. Sounds like it might be pretty good. I am also not sure he should win – he might be better off not winning, but then again they keep praising him for ‘doing his own thing’, so maybe they’d give him a little more leeway. We’ll see!

    He posted a profile on a celeb dating site “M a r r y m i l l i o n a i r e . c o m” . many of his fans were seeking for him and wanna date with him. now that club is very hot because of him.

For those of you who don’t want to wait to purchase David Cook’s cd, YOU DON’T HAVE TO!

His pre-Idol solo album is on Amazon! It’s called “Analog Heart” and it’s really, really well-done. He wrote and produced it himself. I don’t know how he’s getting away with selling it during the show, but boy am I glad I could get my hands on it!

Wow! that was amazing. I loved this song when Mariah did it, and David’s version gave me chills!

I’m divided when it comes to Cook’s prospects post-Idol. Part of me wants him to go all the way and win it just to prove that someone who has more of a “rock” edge can win but they other part of me wants him to get to 4th or 3rd place and then go the Daughtry route. He will have NO problem getting a major label record deal after all this exposure and I think not having the title of American Idol would allow him more creative freedom.

I’m just dreading a repeat of last year where Cook and Chimp boy have to perform the same song. I’ve listened to all the submissions and there are probably only 5 good songs out of the 20. The only consolation is that Cook is obviously good at making things work for him, so who knows?

Dianne, I’m with you on this one. To quote one of Randy’s favorite phrases: I didn’t get it, man. It wasn’t as bad as last week, but it wasn’t as glorious as the judges seemed to think. I’m starting to find his “originality” quite predictable. The only part of his performance I liked was the real emotion he showed after the judges’ comments. And I like David Cook! I just don’t think this was that good.

Mostly, I’m missing Michael Johns and what would have been a sizzling version of “Vision of Love.” Like Carly said, without MJ, the show was boring.

I have to totally agree with Simon’s comment that this version of this song should be on a movie soundtrack. The arrangement is wonderful and I love hearing it without all the little runs and things Mariah throws in there.

I wasn’t blown away at first by David’s performance of “Always Be My Baby”, but after the judges comments and Randy’s standing O, I had to rewind and take a few more listens. Then I got, it was indeed better than I had thought, much better. I then went back and replayed “Billie Jean” for the 100th time.

“Always Be My Baby” did not impress me as much when first listened to it on “American Idol”, but I have since downloaded both versions from I-Tunes and have to say, this has become my favorite song of his – can’t get it out of my head.

“Analog Heart” is now the #1 MP3 download on Amazon.com – amazing! Close to 80 people have posted comments, and many of the reviewers are people who do not ordinarily: watch “American Idol”, listed to alternative rock, or post comments online. Every single person (with the exception of one) said basically the same thing – where has David Cook been hiding – what a great album “Analog Heart” is, how much they look forward to his next release, and that they haven’t been this excited about a musician for years. One man wrote, after reviewing the music “To Mr. David Cook: Do you have ANY idea what’s going on out here while you’re on Idol?”

I will miss the anticipation I experience waiting for Tuesday nights once the show is over.
