Well it looks like it will in fact be an AMERICAN idol this season as tonight we said goodbye to Carly Smithson.

In the end it came down to Syesha and Carly, and once again Syesha had enough votes to keep on singing.

Are you shocked?  Talk to me!

I don’t know what they are voting for? I mean Michael going home two weeks ago was still more of a shock but Brooke should have been shown the door tonight!

Boo! It should have been Brooke. Carly and Syesha’s performances on the result show were amazing. It was sad to see one of the stronger voices in the competition go. I’m surprised Simon backed up Brooke for “being human.” Wow, that’s so not like him. Anyway, at least the two David’s were safe. That’s all I really wanted.

Eh, as long as it wasn’t any of the boys, I don’t care. If all the boys could win I would be very happy!

No big loss for me. The two David’s are still there, and that’s all I care about right now.

I really thought it would be Brooke. I was glad my Jason stayed out of the bottom two, but, sheesh, I didn’t want it to be Carly.

It’s amazing how the two people I voted for were the low two. I would have bet that Brooke or Dreadlocks would be going home. I just can’t believe it. She had one of the strongest performances of the night!

Shocking… but I think the majority of voting is done by teens and Carly wasn’t their cup of tea. She’s a great talent and will hopefully be helped rather than hindered by an early departure.

Yes, Brooke messed up on Tuesday but she’s vulnerable and I think people vote for vulnerable. I am a huge fan of the great female singer/song writers of old – Carly Simon, Carole King, and Joni Mitchell. Brooke has that vibe and so I do really like her even though she messed up. Having said that, I don’t know what the teens are thinking about her to keep her because the majority of them would say “Carly who?”. So it all makes no sense to me.

Brooke picked up the Vote for the Worst fanbase after Kristy left so that’s what carried her. Jason has legions of devoted stoners on his cause. (Plus he’s easy on the eyes, and he’s got a cool sound and has had a couple of really good weeks). Syesha was awesome. There is no question that the Davids would be safe. And Carly is creepy. And she’s already had a record deal (from Randy Jacksons company, no less) that failed big time. She just never connected with the audience. I would have rathered see Brooke go, but I’m not at all surprised it was Carly.

I think we’ve reached a point where people have chosen their favorite idol and will vote for that Idol regardless of how they actually performed. Carly was definitely in the top half performance wise last night, but Jason’s got a huge fan base, and Brooke must too (or else she got massive pity votes).

Either way, every though Brooke dodged a bullet, I think there’s little doubt that a male’s gonna win this thing, and his name will probably be David.

I’m not surprised at all that Carly went home last night. This is now more about their personality and who your favorites are rather than how they did on a particular song. Just watch! Syesha will be the next to go.

I’m not surprised that Carly went home tonight, because I think that she’s one of the most talented singers on the show, and if we’ve learned anything from 7 seasons of this, the most talented don’t win.

Brooke has a huge fanbase, though I am not one of them. I have to disagree with Lisa, because I too am a huge fan of singer/songwriters like Carole, Joni, and Carly and I don’t think that Brooke has half the talent that they have. I feel that she hides behind her clunky piano playing and rushed guitar playing. And she just doesn’t have the vocals or stage presence. But she talks about her family and makes pouty faces and is the “all american girl” that kisses up to everyone to make them think that she’s wonderful (“Your hair looks beautiful tonight, Paula”).

Carly and Syesha haven’t warmed up to America, so they were in the bottom. It’s like high school. We have the prom queen (Brooke), the girl who marches to the beat of her own drummer (Carly), the rebel (David C), the choirboy with the really strict parents (David A), the stoner (Jason), and the drama queen (Syesha). Now that the Ally Sheedy character is gone, let’s see who comes out on top.

Okay, this is what I think…(I’ll probably make some of you mad)…First, I was shocked that Carly went home, but in my opinion, I thought it was the song that killed her. NOT her singing, but the actual song itself. Some people out there may not get “Jesus Christ, Superstar”. I personally like the musical/movie, but some may believe it to have been blasmephous.
Second, I absolutely LOVE David COOK, But! He had a recording contract too! He had an album called Analog Heart, so don’t be too quick to judge Carly.
Third, I do NOT like David A – WHY? Because he is 17 and acts like a 12 year old!! Everytime Ryan asks him a question, he never really answers it! He just spits out some words and looks like he’s going to cry. Sure the boy (BOY) can sing, but he has ZERO stage presence.
Four, Five, and Six – Syesha (sorry, I hate diva, but she’ll probably be the 3rd runner-up. Do we not see a pattern here of Season 2?), Brooke (she’s pretty and she’s a good musician and singer, but not great, she’ll go home soon enough), and then there’s Jason. I believe he’s got the stoners and Travolta eye’s fans out there voting for him, but he makes me uncomfortable. He looks like he’s going to fall asleep during his songs. I say because of his fan base he’ll make the top 3 or 4.

Yesterday was a bad day *shakes head* Now all I have left is Cook.

  17. Lauren (GeekCheek/BlondeSheep) on April 24th, 2008 10:14 pm

Actually, David Cook didn’t have a recording contract, all of his albums (band and solo) have been independently produced and released, I believe, so he never had a recording contract, at least not with a major label.

I also agree that David A has no stage presence at all. He rounds his shoulders and shrugs a lot. And closes his eyes throughout the song. I don’t think that the boy can sing, actually. He cannot sustain a note for any amount of time–he always riffs or runs. I feel like his tone quality isn’t rich enough, and there is no emotion in his voice at all. I fully expect everyone to bite into me for this, but as someone who spent years singing with boys that had tons of presence and quality, this kid just isn’t cutting it for me.

It must be young people voteing for Jason. He should have gone long ago. Brooke was so more diserving than he. She was my favorite. But I do like David Cook
