GREY’S ANATOMY: The Bitch (and the Show) is Back

Grey’s Addison - Addison Montgomery

So now I come to you…with Open Arms“. Addison Montgomery…please come back. And stay. I enjoyed you more in last night’s episode than I ever have your entire stint on PRIVATE PRACTICE. I miss you, sniff…sniff.

I gotta tell ya, I loved GREY’S ANATOMY last night. Well, when I say love I guess I’m speaking in relative terms. It’s not like I finished watching and immediately thought that this is the best drama on TV. GREY’S is not like GREY’S of its first two seasons, but I loved it compared to the drivel we’ve been forced over the past year or so.

But back to Addison. I was so digging her last night. She’s honest and doesn’t hold back. Her appearance served the writers and the audience well as she was able to deconstruct the soap opera-ish mess that the writer’s created over the past year. She called out everything in black and white and with a little smirk let the audience know that yes, the writers did wrong by us, but they get it and they are going to (attempt to) fix it. I know Addison served a specific purpose last night but why can’t she just stick around? Even if it’s just until PRIVATE PRACTICE comes back. Pretty please?

Moving on…brace yourselves people. I’m going to say something that I didn’t think I would ever be saying: I was loving Meredith Grey last night. Crazy, right? I like that Meredith is finally, finally attempting to get her shit together. Girl has been a mess for years and I think going to therapy is going to completely turn her world upside down. Shonda Rhimes can’t stop talking about how Meredith and Derek are going to be happy again soon, but I’m glad to see that she’s showing that these characters are evolving into better people worthy of that kind of epic love. Meredith is the one with the issues. Derek is just co-dependent.

As for the downside of the night? That’s going to have to go to the George and Izzie storylines. Snooze. I don’t care about either one of these characters at all. And I must ask…will every single episode feature Izzie being defeated, questioning why she is a doctor and then having this epiphany that leads to a big dramatic moment? Can you just give me the heads up so I can TiVo through those scenes?

Rebecca coming back to fake a baby with Alex? What’s THAT all about? He’s a doctor and she went to his hospital and got examined by one of his friends. Did she really think he wouldn’t figure it out? All together now…PYSCHO!

And while we’re at it…

Top 3 Moments of the Night:

  1. One by one Derek, Meredith, Addison, Rose (McRebound) and McSteamy entering the elevator. McSteamy had it right….stairs never looked better
  2. Callie:Do people ever think you two are a couple?
    Meredith:
No, because we screw boys like whores on tequila.
Cristina: Then we either try to marry them or drown ourselves.
  3. Addison and Meredith’s awkward hug made only more awkward by Addison making a point of saying ‘hey I gave you a hug even though you stole my husband’. Ha!

A few more random thoughts…

  • Chandra Wilson is ah-mah-zing! It’s been a while since I cared enough about GREY’S to conjure up some tears, but the scene at the end when she was talking to Addison about her life…ugh, I can’t even talk about it now (I just finished my make up and I’m not going to let reminiscing about last night ruin some perfectly good mascara)
  • Callie and Erica. Hmmm. Shonda Rhimes has been trying to get a lesbian storyline on the show for years. But why do I feel that as of late all the lesbian stories I see happen to be that of two straight women falling for each other? Is society more accepting of that versus two lesbians falling in love? I wonder. No matter I guess – Callie is H-O-T and I can imagine that she could get just about anyone to fall in love with her. Clearly these two women need to give it a shot and see what comes of it.
  • Speaking of Erica – cheers to her for giving it to Christina straight (no pun intended). Christina’s constant need for approval is pathetic and she is a worse doctor for it. I’m glad that Hahn is finally recognizing Christina’s aptitude as a surgeon because her constant annoyance was getting old too. Now that both sides laid it out on the table I hope we can move on.

Let’s talk GREY’S. Was anyone else watching? Love it? Hate it? Somewhere in the middle? The forum is yours.

Absolute best line of the season! I definitely see an improvement over the last few episodes. Whatever epiphany Shonda had during the strike seems to be working. I’m actually looking forward to the show again!

Very good review/recap! Although I guess my dislike for all things Meredith Grey is greater than yours, because I still didn’t care for her that much last night. Addison, though … WHOA. Bring it on. I’ve never been a fan of Private Practice, but I absolutely adore her on Grey’s! And she was totally rocking that darker hair colour too.

Meredith’s line about screwing boys like whores on Tequila … too funny. And the way it was delivered … okay, maybe I kind of loved her tiny smidgen last night. Maybe.

But I agree about Callie and Erica, only … I think Erica might actually be a lesbian, straight out (ha ha ha). When she showed up and was fending off McSteamy’s advances, my first thought went to lesbianland, and it hasn’t left since. I first saw a bit of a potential hook up for her and Cristina … you know, she was being extra hard on Cristina because she loved her. But now … the thought of her and Callie makes this little lesbian super excited. Callie is indeed H-O-T, and could totally have anybody she wants. Her and Erica = awesome, and I hope this storyline pans out and doesn’t get thrown to the side and stomped on.

Yay for the return of Awesome Grey’s!!

Have they ever confirmed Erica’s sexual orientation? I’ve kinda thought since she got on Grey’s that she might be gay, and I could totally see her coming out, though I think she and Callie will get not together.

Add me to the group who’s always read Erica Hahn as a lesbian. This has the makings for an interesting storyline. I *don’t* want to see lesbian!Erica “turning” hetero!Callie because it confirms every conservative nightmare about queer people. And I’d also feel ‘blah’ about Callie arriving at some kind of “can’t help who you love” trite-ness. Let’s go for a full-on, good lesbian storyline here!!

Great Episode last night! This is the first time in maybe two years I have been really excited about what is going to happen next week!! I didn’t think of Erica as a lesbian until this episode, but now it makes total sense. I thought Meredith was actually likable last night also. Addison just rocks on this show, maybe Private Practice will be cancelled after next season and she will come back.
