It’s a Privilege to Watch PRIVILEGED

PRIVILEGED, THE CW

Set the TiVo’s now because you’re not going to want to miss out on one of the sassiset, smart and charming new shows of the Fall season.

PRIVILEGED, which premieres tonight at 9pm on The CW,  tells the tale of Megan Smith, an ambitious Yale graduate who is trying to make a name for herself in the world of journalism.  But when things don’t go according to plan and she gets fired, she finds herself back home in Palm Beach tutoring the twin granddaughters of a the wealthy business woman Laurel Limoges.

Perhaps being a tutor isn’t exactly where Megan thought she would be at this point in her life, but she finds it hard to complain when she sees the perks of her new gig.  A fancy sports car,  a sweet suite, private chef and more.  But will the all these extras be enough to deal with the ’08 version of the Hilton sisters?

Rose and Sage lost their parents too early in life and have since been raised by their grandmother, Laurel.  With no one really looking out for their well being, the girls have been accustomed to doing whatever they want, whenever they want without giving any thought to the consequences of their actions.  So you can imagine how thrilled they are to have Megan enter their lives.  Charged with keeping the girls on track for Duke, Megan must rely on her brains and savvy to win the girls over.

If only the twins were Megan’s only issues at hand.  Nope, moving to Palm Beach brings Megan back home and closer to her estranged family including her father and sister, Lily.  At least Megan has her best friend Charlie nearby to help her sort out all this mess.  Too bad she doesn’t realize just how in love with her Charlie is. How could she noticed when her eyes have been firmly fixed on her new hottie neighbor, Will.

On the surface, PRIVILEGED looks like just another series in The CW’s long lineup of show’s about the rich, fabulous and shamless – but it’s so much more than that.  This show is way more GILMORE GIRLS than 90210 and I mean that in the best possible way.  It’s smart and funny and quite charming.  Series star JoAnn Garcia really does a fantastic job in carrying the shows and allows Megan to lend gravity in her otherwise outrageous surroundings.  Garcia is cute and perky without being annoying – always a plus. (And on a personal note she looks exactly like this girl I know, Mandy.  Seriously I’ll have to dig up some pics – the resemblence is uncanny).

Rose and Sage, played by Lucy Hale and Ashley Newbrough, respectively, are actually interesting layered characters trying to keep up in the very adult world they live in.  But as teens they don’t have all the facilities to play the game as well as they think they can.  Former OC star, Michael Cassidy, is swoonworthy as Megan’s best friend Charlie.  One episode in and I’m already rooting for him to get the girl.

PRIVILEGED was a really nice surprise this Fall season.  I’m already smitten and I think you might be too.  So check it out tonight at 9pm on The CW and let me know what you think.

I can’t wait to watch it now that you’ve endorsed it! And that’s twice now that I’ve heard a Gilmore Girls comparison, so I’m all in.

It was really good. I like it better than 90210. JoAnna Garcia is adorable. The two guys, her friend and the neighbor dude, are great eye candy. A cute show with two cute guys. Yep I’ll be watching.

What a great show! JoAnna Garcia was fantastic. I loved the verbal smackdown she gave to Laurel and Sage. Will definitely be a series recording on my DVR.

Oh yea, those two guys were smoking hot!

Fantastic premiere! I loved every minute of it. It was ten times better than “90210” and it didn’t feel forced at all. I will certainly be tuning in next week.

I agree with Mandy and Philiana that it was tons better than 90210. JoAnna Garcia was really entertaining and easy to relate to being thrown into that world.

Also, Laurel was Dennis and Dee’s mom on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and was just as great in that episode as she is on this!

I am iffy on this show. It still needs more to win me over. But I realize it can take time to really get into a show. I really liked JoAnna Garcia in it and agree it was better than the 90210 pilot. (I still haven’t watched the second episode)

And remember in the great words of Uncle Ben (Spiderman’s, not mine)
“With Great Privilege comes great responsibility” 🙂

The wife and I enjoyed this show. We’re fans of JoAnna Garcia from the Reba days. The girl is a great comedic actress that (apparently) can handle a little more gravity in her roles as well. I’m looking forward to watching how the characters on this show evolve.
