Dexter recap

Well, some of the events in this episode were a long time coming and some were out of left field. Let’s get started before this venti no-whip mocha sitting next to me kicks in and I can barely type.

Firstly, I didn’t see the bachelor party angle coming AT ALL! I busted out laughing when Masuka got socked in the face by a terrified Dexter. I’ve never been to a bachelor party, but every guy I know who has or has had one thrown in their honor agrees with Dexter: it’s for every guy but the groom. But, the occasion did give everyone a hangover the next morning and Dex plenty of fodder to use against Prado later.

I was thinking, for a split second, that there might have been a third possibility to the end of Miguel Prado. The first was Dexter killing him. The second was LaGuerta arresting him…and then Dexter killing him. The third, which developed over the episode, was Prado trying to kill LaGuerta and Dexter saving her and, in the process, revealing himself to her. It turns out, it was a hybrid of those.

To LaGuerta’s credit, she didn’t let her feelings for Prado get in the way of her gut. She did the work to prove him guilty and was seemingly, on the edge of turning him in when Dexter intervened. More on that in a second.

On the Deb front, I had the whole change thing as soon as Anton brought it up. I think people on cop shows need to start watching cop shows, because this is happening a lot lately. But, as soon as Deb and Quinn got on the same page as yours truly, she put the pieces together quite well. I’m really hoping that the finale next week includes Deb getting her badge, because I think she’s earned it this season.

Also, Dex finally revealed to Deb the secret of Harry’s past: that he was sleeping with a CI, Dex’s biological mama. Honestly, I didn’t see what the big deal was. Maybe it’s because I’m a big fan of the Deb/Anton relationship and don’t consider the cop sleeping with the CI as a big deal in that case, but I hope it was the fact that Harry wasn’t the man Deb thought he was and not the action itself that got her in a tizzy. It will be interesting to see what more she learns and how it affects her.

The true diamond in that rough is that Dex realized that Deb should be his best man. Hey, I stood up for my friend Katherine at her wedding a couple of years ago. You gotta problem with it?

Wedding plans are ramping up. I’m impressed by the way the writers have kept the wedding in the peripheral and not made it too much of the season OR made it really slapsticky and sitcomy. But, this was the first week where the wedding, and not the concept of commitment, was part of the episode. Obviously, with what Rita thinks is going on with Prado, she doesn’t want him to stand up for Dex at the wedding. Dex doesn’t want him be standing at all. Heh heh, get it?

So, on to Prado. Once Dex found out about his plans to kill LaGuerta, his fate was sealed. I was worried when I saw Prado shrink-wrapped on the table, since we knew that it had to look like the Skinner for the plan to work at all. But, Dex is smarter than me, so he had it all under control, as usual. The moments before the kill pretty much cleared all of the unfinished business between the two of them. Prado wasn’t using Dexter at all. He really was trying to be a friend. But, even though “Harry” was proud of him for trying, he’s not meant to have friends. At least, friends who know his secret.

This brings me to the finale. Ramon Prado is still lurking and heavily suspecting Dexter of foul play (Why would he ever do that?); the Skinner, George King, is still to be caught; Deb has to figure out if she likes Quinn or Anton and find out about Harry; and Dex has to get married. I’m a little concerned about the finale and that there will be way too much in it. I guess we’ll see NEXT WEEK!

What do you think, cats and kittens? Will some of these storylines get tabled for next season? Will the finale be too much in a short amount of time?

I loved the whole Bachelor Party surprise…how could all those cops not think Dex was gonna freak out by being tied up and thrown in the trunk of a car??
I was kinda worried about how he killed Miguel…didn’t the Skinner skin his victims ante-mortem….I didn’t see Dexter do that before he strangled Prado.
I was saying that Deb should be Dex’s Best Man from the beginning!!! I am glad he finally realized it.
I think ,with the whole Harry-CI thing, that it is setting up for next season, where, through the files that she requested, Deb is going to figure out about Dex and what he does and have the whole internal conflict between being a cop who punishes murderers and loving her brother…we will see????

I also loved how Masuka was relieved when he found out the girl he liked had issues, because that proved that she wasn’t out of his league!

Great episode, loved the misdirection with Dexter’s buddies kidnapping him for the party…
the most significant revelation tho i think has been missed, it immediately occured to me when Dex told Deb about Harry’s affair..
Deb’s going to go dig up the file as we now know, so what happens when she sees “Laura Moser” listed as the informant and puts two-and-two to realize the “Brian Moser” (aka the IceTruck Killer) connection… the fact that Dexter reminded Miguel (and us) that he killed his own brother makes me think Deb’s digging might turn up that Dexter is part of the Moser clan, leading to some pretty pointed questions on her part…
    anyone else think that?

I was never a fan of Deb being with Anton…and I think it’s mainly due to the fact that he calls her Deborah. Silly, but true. I could buy her and Quinn.

I’m sad Jimmy Smiths is gone. He was such an awesome addition this season.

I didn’t suspect it was for Dex’s bachelor’s party at all. They got me there.

Like Carli, i’m sad the Miguel Prado character is no more. Hall and Smits acting together this season was a treat to watch.

I think the season finale will be very fast paced and full of edge of your seat excitement. I think Deb’s digging into Harry’s past will be tabled for next season.

This show makes me so nervous! Why did it take so long for Deb to get to the front of the house when Quinn was chasing the Skinner through the house? I hope Dex knows what he’s doing with Prado – b/c I’m worried that Maria is watching Prado, or that Skinner is watching Dexter…so many things to be resolved next week! I hope Deb and Anton stay together – I really like him. And although Smits was a great addition this season, he really can’t stay around. Cool season – can’t wait to see how they wrap it up.
