Has T.R. Knight Quit GREY’S ANATOMY?

December 8, 2008 by

The rumors via blind items have been hovering for quite some time, and now it seems that there may be some to truth about a rift between GREY’S star T.R. Knight and the show that put him on the map.

Of course no official statement has been made, but here’s both side of the rumor.

An entertainment lawyer who posts at CrazyDaysandNights.net first posted that T.R. walked off the set, and followed up with this, supposedly from a source:

“He [T.R.] hasn’t attended table reads since episode 2. He is pissed and miserable and thinks his story line is stupid. He said goodbye to his hair and makeup people last week. He says he is done and has quit. ABC has not released him. Shondra Rhimes, the producer called him and he told her he had nothing to say. He has packed his dressing room.”

US Magazine went right to a rep from Grey’s who said, “T.R. has never walked off set in the middle of filming. He attended the table read today and will be shooting this week, like any other week of production.”

Given the dark cloud (aka The Curse of the Burke) that has followed around GREY’S, my gut is telling me that there may be a hint of truth to this rumor. I guess we’ll just wait and see.

Do you think GREY’S ANATOMY could go on without Dr. George O’Malley?

Yes it can, and it should.

yep he hasn’t been missed when his character has been MIA the whole season. So they’ll do fine with the more interesting characters they have written in.

Surprisingly, I wouldn’t miss George at all. He was such an integral and loved character before, but he’s almost disappeared this season. (I’m dense though – I thought they were hinting at McDreamy – who also hasn’t been around much the last few episodes…)

See…I want to say it will live on without George because it is living on now without him BUT what we see now with the Izzie/Denny crap is so unfrakinbelievably horrible that I think the less George we’ve had this season has given way to ridiculous storylines. They finally allowed his character to pass the test and he’s still the Chief’s errand boy with barely any interaction with the clique he was so desperate to get back in with. The scene in the bar with George and the gang and Lexie off to the side is now feeling to me like a cheap goodbye, sayonara, bid him adieu, bon voyage party.

So while the show can easily live on without him (see Burke’s exit and I’ll even throw in Hahn’s exit), I do think that just is giving the writers a hand to continue to write bad episodes.

If the writers could remember how to write their old and new characters well, giving everyone their spotlight and at the same time putting them on the back-burner when necessary, maybe the show could build up its momentum and be the show we all fell in love with. There are too many characters right now and the easy solution is to get rid of one.

Seeing that Bailey was the only surgical resident teaching the past three seasons, I don’t understand why they need all the new residents now to become teachers and each of them to have a whole bunch of interns. I may not be wording “surgical resident” correctly and making my point more confusing. McDreamy, Burke, Chief, Bailey, etc all had a hand at teaching but the interns we came in with were Bailey’s babies. McDreamy and Burke are specialists and taught their specialties but they weren’t completely in charge of the interns. They were assigned interns and would rotate who they were working with. Callie, at the same level as Bailey when she was introduced, did not have a bevy of interns. So, why is it necessary for Karev, Christina, Izzie, Mer and now George to all have their own interns? Why has all the sudden the number of surgical interns quadrupled?

If they didn’t give each character more tiny characters to work with, I think all the character confusion would lessen and the writers would be able to focus better on our main cast plus a couple newbies rather than a whole set of new people. Now that Scrubs is on ABC, they could go across the hall and ask how they do it 🙂

Boring character, with a barely competent actor…yep, cut him loose.

I used to love George but he now is a fringe character only, IMO, he wouldn’t be missed.
