Welcome to the New Year & the New Give Me My Remote!

It’s a new year and with it comes a new GiveMeMyRemote.com. I though New Year’s Day would be the perfect time pull back the curtain on the new site. It’s been almost three years since GMMR got a makeover and I hope you like the reveal.
Things may look a littler different around here, but take some time to poke around and I think you’ll find that the more things change they more things stay the same (wow, catchy phrase…I should trademark that one).
Below are just a few new things you’ll find on the new GMMR….
We now has a home page. Lately we’ve been attracting more and more new visitors to the site. I wanted newbies to have a place where they can get a real sense of what GMMR has to offer before diving into the good stuff.
The Latest TV News
The home page includes a rotating “featured content” area which showcases some of the more recent GMMR posts.
Although most new posts will be featured here, some of the smaller site updates might not be. But you can always find the latest postings at the bottom of the home page in the section called “The Latest TV News from Give Me My Remote”.
And don’t fret, the traditional blog has not gone away. Click on “Blog” in the top nav and read the GMMR posts they way you have for the past three years.
Today’s TV Spotlight
Want to find out the top shows on tonight? The home page now features the “Today’s TV Spotlight” section (formerly known as “What to Watch”) which gives you a heads up on my top three TV picks for the night. Click on the link below the picks and see the full post with all my TV choices for that day.
A Few of My Favorite Things
On of my favorite things about the new site is the “GMMR’s Featured Videos” area. Check out some of my favorite YouTube videos while you read GMMR. New videos will be added all the time so keep checking back.
GMMR on the Go
Our new ‘On the Go‘ page shows all the various ways you can keep up with GMMR when you’re away from your computer. There’s RSS feeds, our new Facebook page, Twitter, and more. Sign up for GMMR’s new email program and get the latest headlines and breaking news delivered to your inbox.
GMMR Mailbag
I’m so excited to launch the GMMR Mailbag. Here’s your chance to submit questions or rant and rave about what’s going on in the TV world. I’m hoping this can become a weekly column. I guess it all depends on how many questions you all have. So send ’em in.
The Living Room
Put on your jammies and come hang out in The Living Room. This new area of GMMR is where I’ll be hosting live chat and live blogs for big events like award shows or special viewing nights. Any if we are lucky, maybe a few special guests will stop by the living room to hang with us. This isn’t a free for all chat room, so keep an eye out for upcoming Living Room events. Our first chat will be on Wednesday, January 7th at 8pm. Set a reminder…I hope you can make it.
Feedback
So these are just some of the changes to the new GMMR. Poke around and see what you can find.
I really hope you like the updates we’ve made. Spend some time on the site and tell us what’s working and more importantly what’s not working. Be honest (but kind…ha ha). I’m going to making adjustments over the next few days because in my rush to get this live there were a few things that maybe didn’t get my full attention.
Also, this site was built on my Mac, and during the development stage I could only view it in Firefox. Clearly I’m nervous about what it’s going to look like in other browsers. If you encounter broken images, areas of the site that aren’t working right, or anything else that looks out of whack, PLEASE email me through the contact form right away.
GMMR is for YOU! I tried to make changes that I thought you might like. Only time (and YOU) will tell.

I’ve heard from 5 or 6 people who said they are going to miss the old “blog” layout. Just a reminder that it’s still there. Just got to BLOG in the top nav and see a more traditional layout of GMMR.

I’m glad. Yeah, I’m worried about people not being able to find the traditional BLOG page. I just updated the top nav bar so that BLOG hopefully sticks out a little more. I hope that people find it.
