TV Buzz: PRISON BREAK, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, MOONLIGHTING and More

January 14, 2009 by

Today’s buzzworthy TV news includes scoop on PRISON BREAK, the ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT movie, a MOONLIGHTING reunion, and more casting news from GREY’S ANATOMY.  Read on and weigh in on the buzz below.

Prison Break is Dunzo
The announcement was made yesterday that Fox will not be ordering any more episodes of PRISON BREAK. FOX President, Kevin Reilly, simply said that the show has “run its course”. The remaining episodes will start airing of April 17th, but when they are done, it will be goodbye to Michael Scofield and his band of merry men.

This news isn’t a shocker, but TV is going to be just a bit less hotter without Wentworth Miller every week. I’ve watched every season with the exception of this last one. I’ve always enjoyed the show, but the Monday night TV schedule got just a bit overwhelming and sacrifices had o be made. I still plan on catching up on this season in time to pick up the show again in April.

Are you a Prison Break fan? Are you ready for the show to be over or are you a little heartbroken over this news?

The Arrested Development Movie Arrested by George Michael
You gotta have faith, faith, faith…ooh you gotta have faith.  Wait am I appealing to the wrong George Michael? I guess it’s ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT star Michael Cera that I should be talking to.  He’s the one that hasn’t yet signed on for the upcoming ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT movie.  The other actors are on board and just yesterday Will Arnett told E!, “For once and for all, the Arrested Development movie is happening!” Hallelujah! Creator Mitch Horowitz is still working on story ideas, but there are rumblings that the show will pick up 5 years in the future. As for a movie without Cera, his AD co-stars seem to be supportive of his decision to weigh his options (at least supportive in the press).  Jason Bateman told E! “…I think he’s trying to really give some responsible thought to what makes sense for him to do with his career.”

I know it’s all business, but I have to wonder the downside of Michael Cera joining the cast.  We aren’t talking about a bunch of slubs here.  This is a stellar cast made up of some of the most in-demand comedic actors out there.  The team behind the camera aren’t too shabby either.  And I know this is the easy way out, but at what point does Michael Cera need to be reminded that he probably wouldn’t have the career he has if it weren’t for ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.

Personally I think this is all posturing.  Michael Cera will be on board.

Will an Arrested Development movie work without George Michael? Do you think Cera will sign on eventually?

The Revolving Doors of Seattle Grace
At this point you have to wonder if perhaps someone of the cast of GREY’S ANATOMY has serious halitosis or at least some bad body odor.  What else could account for the constant stream of actors coming and going on that show?  Oh wait, here’s another guess – the mundane storylines and behind-the-scenes drama that have followed the show for the past few years.

The latest to leave Seattle Grace is Melissa George, who just joined the cast as Dr. Sadie Harris. Huh? Didn’t she just get here?  Ms. George said that it was her choice to leave, and made a special effort to say how great everyone had been…especially T.R. Knight.  Ah, so that’s it.  T.R. had been whispering in her ear, telling her to get out while she still could.  I see.  Actually losing Melissa George from the show is no big whoop.  It’s not like she’s around long enough for us to care about her.  And let’s face it.  I’m ok with not seeing the manipulative Mrs. Lauren Reed-Vaughn on my screen every week.  I will never forgive you, Lauren…never!

Oh and P.S.  Faye Dunaway is the latest Doctor to enter Seattle Grace.  She’s going to be a top surgeon that come to blows with other doctors at Seattle Grace.  Wow…that’s such a new storyline.  One that has never been played out (to death) on this show.  Way to bring something ne to the table, Shonda.

Does the rotation of the doctors (pun intended) bother you?  Do you think this fresh blood adds to the show or detracts from the ongoing storylines?

Moonlighting Reunion?  I’ll Believe it When I See It
Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd supposedly ran into each other in a deli in Cali and ‘poof’ now there’s a MOONLIGHTING reunion in the works.  Hmm, sounds a little suspect to me.  According to a report in Variety, Liz Smith said that supposely Bruce Willis is on board as long as the original creative team is behind it.  And although it seems no one has asked Cybil yet, perhaps there is speculation that if Bruce is on board she will be too.  I mean, what else is she doing these days, right?

So will we see one of the greatest “will they/won’t they/they did and forever affected TV couples” on-screen  pairings reunited?  Perhaps.  But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Is anyone reading this blog that is even old enough to remember and appreciate the genius of Moonlighting?  If not, you should see it to fully understand the impact Dave and Maddie had on Dawson & Joey, Jim & Pam, Veronica & Logan, and every other great on-screen couple since them.

That’s a lot of TV buzz for this early in the morning.  Weigh on on the buzz below!

I love the TV buzz! Great new article. I gave up on Prison Break during its 4th season so I’m shocked it’s still on the air. I don’t think many will miss it.

I can’t wait for the AD movie. I do think they need MIchael Cera but I think he’ll join the cast sooner or later.

Why are you still watching Grey’s Anatomy?

I’m old enough to remember Moonlight! But like you, I am not holding my breath.

No big loss for Grey’s….but weird that they have so many changes. I love Jessica Capshaw as Dr. Arizona whaterver, I hope she stays around for a while.

Funny thing – I just got my DVD of the first 2 seasons of Moonlighting from Amazon this morning.
I’m not sure Bruce could really recapture the essence of David Addison that we all knew and loved. It would be like asking Sean Penn to revisit Jeff Spicoli.

Yes, I am that old. I loved them as a couple but it broke my heart that off camera they couldn’t stand one another. We’ll see.

I thought this season of PB was much better than last season, but it’s definately time for it to end. They need to bring down the evil company and walk off into the sunset.

And I wish one of either the AD or Veronica Mars movie would actually get off the ground. Let’s get a script written!

I am new to building sites and I was wondering if having your website title relevant
to your content really that critical? I notice your title,
“TV Buzz | The Latest TV News and Gossip | Give Me My Remote ” does
seem to be spot on with what your website is about but yet, I prefer to keep my title less content descriptive and based more
around site branding. Would you think this is a good idea or
bad idea? Any kind of assistance would be greatly valued.
