Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Tuesday, January 20, 2009

January 20, 2009 by

Good morning all.  I hope your Monday wasn’t too rough (mine was definitely a little shaky, but I’ve survived). Are you ready for some Tuesday night TV?  The TV lineup looks a little different tonight given all the Inauguration festivities.  Choose wisely.

Two bits of housekeeping before we move on.  Due to some spamming and some trolling, I had to put the comments in moderation for now.  I’ll due my very best to approve them as soon as they come in, but I wanted to give you the heads up.

And more importantly, Comcast blows and because of them I missed GOSSIP GIRL yet again last night.  That’s two weeks in a row.  I’m going to get caught up on iTunes at some point, and hopefully it will be fixed my next Monday.  But that’s why there’s no GOSSIP GIRL discussion today.  Sorry.

On to Tuesday TV. What will YOU be watching?

Special Inauguration Coverage

The Neighborhood Ball: An Inauguration Celebration | 8pm on ABC
President Barack Obama hosts the first Neighborhood Ball; Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Shakira and Stevie Wonder are scheduled to perform.
Change and Challenge: The Inauguration of Barack Obama | 9pm on CBS
Barack Obama’s journey to the White House; highlights of the day’s activities; Americans share their stories of the inauguration.

Dateline NBC | 10pm on NBC
Presidential Inauguration Special
Reports from the inaugural galas, with highlights of the night’s biggest events.

A Moment in History: The Inauguration of Barack Obama | 10pm on ABC
Highlights from the many inaugural balls; journalists share their thoughts on the significance of the day.

Other Tuesday TV…

American Idol | 8pm on Fox
The auditions continue in San Francisco. [GMMR: Due to some technical glitches, we didn’t get to talk about IDOL last week.  That will change.  We’ll be talking about it tomorrow.  But what do you think of the auditions so far.  Some talented people went through to Hollywood.  And surprisingly a few not so talented are also going.  I haven’t formed an opinon on new judge Kara yet, but she’s definitely not another Paula and I like that.]

Privileged | 9pm on The CW
All About the Big Picture
Will suggests that Megan separate herself from her family’s problems; Rose’s boyfriend gets upset when he sees a picture of Sage, Rose and Pete Wentz at a nightclub; Megan meets Will’s parents. [GMMR: Fingers crossed that The CW is working tonight.  I’m not counting on it though.]

Fringe | 9pm on Fox
“Bound”

Olivia’s sister, Rachel (Ari Graynor), visits; Walter, Peter and Olivia try to solve the murder of an esteemed epidemiologist, which may be linked to Olivia’s abduction. [GMMR: Pacey Peter you’re back.  I’ve missed you.]

Also playing…

  • 90210 | 8pm on The CW: Adrianna makes a revelation; Annie is surprised to learn that Ty will also be auditioning for the new school play; Ryan has an unpleasant encounter with Kelly and Silver; Dixon asks Debbie for relationship advice.
  • The Biggest Loser | 8pm on NBC: Fireworks erupt when a team reunion does not go as planned; contestants check in with the doctor to measure their progress; a wild jump-rope challenge leads to immunity for the winner; one contestant is eliminated.
  • Leverage | 10pm on TNT: All the evidence the team seeks to expose a cover-up is on a plane heading to the Cayman Islands; airborne, the team uncovers a more sinister situation.

GMMR’s Useless Tidbit of the Day…

“Bats are viscious insect eaters, devouring as many as six hundred bugs per hour for four to six hours a night.  They can eat from 1/2 to 3/4 their weight per evening.  Bats are also important plant pollinators, particularly in the southwestern United States.”
