Rashida Jones Goes Back to THE OFFICE

Rashida Jones

(SPOILER ALERT) (SPOILER ALERT) (SPOILER ALERT) (SPOILER ALERT)

After tonight’s Super Bowl episode of THE OFFICE, a promo for next week ep was shown, and it seems to have everyone all a flutter (or at least I’m guessing based on the slew of emails I just received).  In the promo, Michael and Pam visit the Utica branch only to find a VERY pregnant Karen Filippelli.

Yes, Rashida Jones IS returning to THE OFFICE next.  I’m so excited!

But I think what some people might be worried about is that bun in the oven.  Despite Michael’s idiotic comment about trying to figure out the last time Karen and Jim had sex, there is NO chance that Jim is the father of Karen’s baby.  Zero chance so don’t worry your pretty little heads about it. I mean, look closely, Karen is sporting a ring. But that’s besides the point. The baby can’t be Jim’s.

Do look for some hopefully interesting and angsty scenes between Karen and Pam.  I bet the two ladies will actually be more than ok with each other.  Don’t forget they once a upon a Benihana Christmas, these two pretty gals were friends.

Anyway, feel free to speculate away. Based on the number of people that have ended up on GMMR tonight looking for info on this, I’m sure there are a lot of theories.

[GMMR: Don’t be throw by some of the comments – this is an update from an older post that talked of Rashida’s last guest appearance on “The Office”]

my guess…official dunder mifflin business. if the writers had any intention to bring back the love triangle, it would have been during the branch wars episode. she’ll just be around in some kind of official capacity, and to give halpert the opportunity to make “wow im uncomfortable” faces at the camera. other theory…somehow part of Jan’s sexual harassment suit? she did witness her meltdown…

  2. Jennie on February 26th, 2008 1:40 pm

I also think official business…but I think that there will be an undercurrent of “look how awesome I am being a manager and you’re still with a receptionist” to Jim because I think Karen has always been snooty like that. Or maybe they could bring her in to run the branch while Michael has to be away for something. That would be interesting…I can just see her torturing Pam now….

  3. HealthcareHottie on February 26th, 2008 1:47 pm

I agree. I think it will be at corporate or someplace like in The Convention where all the Managers and Asst. Reg. Mangers will have to participate in some sort meeting or event. I don’t think Pam will have to face her at all, just like in Branch Wars.

    Karen who?

  6. Jo on February 26th, 2008 3:39 pm

Hmm. If I was betting, I’d also go with Dunder Mifflin related stuff. I’m hoping though, for the awkward factor, that we’ll finally get to see Jim & Pam on a date and they could run into Karen & her date…that would be squirm worthy.

What does it say about me that my stomach flipped when I read about Karen coming back? I don’t even think I can watch poor Rashida’s new show due to flashback angst. She will always be Karen F and for that she cannot be forgiven. Should she appear again this season it damned well better be in an official capacity.

  8. BringMePlayers on February 26th, 2008 3:47 pm

I don’t have a theory of why they’ll bring her back, because the writers are just so clever that I’m sure I’d be wrong. Having said that, let me just say that after enduring three months of writers’ strike MISERY, I want some love when this show comes back. Can I get a witness?!

  9. mg714 on February 26th, 2008 4:37 pm

I love Rashida, but I worry about Karen coming back, even if just for one episode. I hope that it’s mainly DM/corporate related and not focused on creating tension between JAM. I don’t mind a little bit of tension but I don’t want too much angst – we’ve had enough of that with them! 😉 In any case, I’m just excited to have new episodes to speculate about!

GMMR, are you getting this from a broadcast or from the Spoiler Talk?

This was what was posted on Spoiler Talk:
“Lisa in Albany, California: Any scoop on the new episodes of The Office coming in April?
Just that Rashida Jones told me last week at the Unhitched premiere party that she was originally slated to do another episode this season! No telling if that will still work in this wacky poststrike environment, but it seems we might not yet have seen the last of Utica’s lovely Karen Filippelli.”

It sounds like Rashida was originally suppose to be back for another episode but it’s not certain if she actually is, due to the strike. With only 6 episodes for this season, I really hope that they don’t waste one on a Karen sub-plot if it doesn’t make sense in the grand scheme of things.

I feel like in the last few eps, Jim has been figuring out that everyone is moving forward except for him, and that maybe he is not so happy about that. Especially watching Pam all excited and moving forward with her dream while he is still at DM doing the same thing. He never really thought that was how HE would end up, did he? I mean, what are HIS dreams?

So bring in Karen, perhaps to further fuel the fire under Jim, even playing up the “I have moved forward and look at you, still here” thing. I don’t believe it will be relationship oriented, but you just never know with these tricky writers….

  12. Shari on February 26th, 2008 6:36 pm

probably because she’s John Krasinski’s girlfriend and he wanted to work with her again.

Look, I get everyone over at The Office LOVES the R.Jo. I think she’s gorgeous and talented as well. But enough is enough. They love her so much, invite her to the wrap parties, ask her out for drinks, but to continually bring back her plot device of a character is beneath both her, the show AND its fans.

  13. Jo on February 26th, 2008 6:44 pm

GMMR, we should start a poll. When the show comes back…will they write in Angela’s pregnancy? Who’s baby? Or will she just be talking behind plants and cubicle walls a lot?

  14. cam3150 on February 26th, 2008 6:54 pm

I personally don’t think she CAN cause any problems for Jim and Pam. That ship sailed a long time ago. It was never really in the water to begin with. The show really made it clear that Jim was only with Karen because he wasn’t with Pam, not because he was madly in love with her (Karen). She may think she can cause an issue and she even may make Pam think that she can or will but I don’t think Jim would ever leave Pam for Karen.

  15. janet on February 26th, 2008 8:15 pm

I agree that Karen would come back to add fuel to Jims angst of being stuck in his job and not be a division for Pam and Jim.

  16. Michele on February 26th, 2008 8:22 pm

Yeah – I think if she returns it will be in the capacity to point out once again Jim’s lack of ambition.

And speaking of our beloved Office – are you still checking in as our fearless leader at DMI? There are new bulletin boards now (that seem to work), and people have been on the lookout for you. Come back to us!

  17. Jordan on February 27th, 2008 1:13 am

Karen Schmaren. Meh. I agree with others that they’ll bring her back to make Jim look unambitious. What I wish they’d do was have Karen see how happy both Jim and Pam are when they’re with each other, how Jim is a totally different person with Pam than he was with her, and realize it’s actually good they’re together.
On a grumpier note, RJ is gorgeous, and I hear that she is a wonderful person. But as far as craft goes, she is just not a very skilled actor and it especially sticks out like a sore thumb when she’s alongside the regular Office cast. And no, I’m not talking about Business School when she was purposely sounding phony. I’d love it if they’d utilize Oscar Nunez and Kate Flannery more, rather than give her more screen time.

    maybe karen comes back pregnant.

    😉

  19. amanda on February 1st, 2009 11:43 pm

KAREN COMES BACK PREGNANT. I JUST SAW IT ON A COMMERCIAL. WTFFFFFF. I SWEAR TO GOD IF THAT IS JIM’S BABY I AM GOING TO NEVER WATCH THAT SHOW AGAIN…. not actually. but i will cry.

  20. Jam4LIIIIFE on February 1st, 2009 11:44 pm

THIS PROBABLY ISN’T NEWS ANYMORE BECAUSE THE PROMO JUST AIRED, BUT OMG KAREN IS FREAKING PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. steph Mertes on February 1st, 2009 11:45 pm

I cannot believe she’s back with a baby on board.

  22. Leci on February 2nd, 2009 12:01 am

    Karen! Pregnant! Noooooooooooooooooo!

  23. Wes on February 2nd, 2009 12:29 am

I saw that promo too. I bet jim will be suspected as the father, and either a DNA test will prove that Karen was cheating, or Andy will be the father.. Haha maybe not but it would be funny. I don’t think the producers would allow jim and pam to break up. They would lose a lot of viewers. It will make for good drama though.

  24. Jaime on February 2nd, 2009 12:54 am

I’m not at all worried about Karen being back – or about Jim being the father. They broke up in May 2007, and then over a year later, he and Pam got engaged. So if he was the father, that would mean he cheated on Pam. Like I said, I’m not worried.

  25. Liz on February 2nd, 2009 12:58 am

I’m going with….it’s Ryan’s baby. That’s going to be his grand reentrance into the office world. They’ve each asked the other out throughout the series…so, that’s my theory.

  26. Give Me My Remote on February 2nd, 2009 1:01 am

I kind of like it, Liz. BJ has hinted that Ryan will return to the series in dramatic fashion AND there was some hint that Ryan has not been in Thailand this whole time. I would laugh my ass off.

The only reason I don’t think this is the case is that Karen is sporting a ring. I don’t think they would have married off Ryan and Karen.

  27. KaySEEE on February 2nd, 2009 3:50 pm

I am so glad to see people react the same way as I did, seeing Karen pregnant. My heart dropped while I tried to do the math on Jim and Karens last interactions. I know its so silly…its just a show…but I truly love the relationship between Jim and Pam and its the reason I fell in love with this show in the first place. (I only started watching early this season and promptly went out and bought all the seasons on DVD and have watched them over and over). This is the only TV show that I watch consistently.

Thanks for setting things straight and easing my mind…I couldn’t wait til Thursday. 🙂

(Now I feel like a loser, actually reading how much I love this show…)

  28. Wes on February 2nd, 2009 4:23 pm

Im sticking with Andy as the father. I know it sounds ridiculous but, so is the show lol

  29. mckenna on February 2nd, 2009 10:45 pm

    THE BABY IS DWIGHT’S!!!11111

  30. Wes on February 3rd, 2009 12:42 am

okay I changed my mind. I now suspect ROY as the father.
