TV Buzz: Heigl & Knight Out; Mars Maybe In; Krasinski on the Big Screen and More…

February 10, 2009 by

Hear that?  That’s the sound of the random TV news buzzzzzzzing around in my head.  Here are a few of TV-related stories that are making the news as of late featuring Katherine Heigl, T.R. Knight, Veronica Mars, Dr. Horrible, John Krasinski, some married people sharing screen time and much more. Share your thoughts on these headlines in the comments below.

Don’t Let the Emergency Room Door Hit You on Your Ass on the Way Out…
Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight are leaving GREY’S ANATOMY.  Ok, not really a shocker, but this is the first time it’s been confirmed.  Co-star James L. Pickens (The Chief) confirmed the news and said  “Wherever Katherine goes, I wish her nothing but the best”.  As for T.R. he said, “He’s going too….He just wanted to pursue other career paths.” Seeing that George O’Malley hasn’t more than 2 minutes of screen time all season, I’m glad T.R. will be moving on to other things.  Heigl – I can’t say that I care too much where she lands. Do you care? (US Weekly)

Katherine & T.R.: Can you take Ben Silverman with you?
NBC has picked up a new reality series starring “famed life strategist”, Tony Robbins.  And here I was thinking that I couldn’t possibly hate Ben Silverman anymore than I do.  Way to go, Ben! Could NBC be more of a sh$#show?  Maybe in I’m in the minority here…are YOU interested in a Tony Robbins reality show? (Variety)

Lights…Action…Veronica Mars…
As we talked about in our last TV Buzz, Rob Thomas is writing a big screen version of VERONICA MARS.  The internets have been all a twitter now that its said that RT is supposedly going to pitch the movie to the studio. Here’s a tip Rob – dont’ call it VERONICA MARS.  Why not just write a tale about a witty young woman who has dysfunctional relationships with men and is a PI in her spare time.  Tell them you have Kristen Bell attached.  Calling it VERONICA MARS could be the death of the pitch. Raise your hand if you think that VERONICA MARS: The Movie will ever make its way to theaters. (EW)

“Wicked” Awesome Casting News…
Broadway actress Idina Menzel will be guesting on an upcoming episode of PRIVATE PRACTICE along side hubby Taye Diggs. According to TVGuide.com “Menzel will play the mother of a patient tended to by Pete (Tim Daly). To hear one source tell it, Pete’s special brand of “bedside manner” might bring about an attraction between him and Menzel’s character. At this early stage, it’s unclear if Menzel and her main man will share many scenes.” By any chance will this mother feel the need to break out into song?  If so, that would be all kinds of awesome! Who is with me that Kristin Chenoweth should also guest in the same ep?  That would be a “popular” episode. (TV Guide)

It’s a Brand New Day and the Sun is High…
The full schedule for PaleyFest ’09 will be released soon.  So far we know that there will be panels for DR. HORRIBLE, FRINGE and DOLLHOUSE. If those are all in the same week then I’m going to head out to L.A. for the event.  If not, I’m not sure if I’ll go.  Most of my other favorites have been honored in years past.  What shows would YOU like to see at PaleyFest this year?

So You Think You Can Dance with the Stars?
GMMR reader, Lisa, tells me that SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE alums Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin will be two of the featured pros on the upcoming 8th season of DANCING WITH THE STARS.  ABC has yet to confirm who the professionals will be this year.  Will Lacey Schwimmer be back again?  Sorry. Still not watching friends.  Maybe if they got Mark Kanemura, Travis Wall and Jailbait Ivan Koumaev then I might watch…might

The Future is Bright for PARKS & RECREATION…
Chris Pratt, best known as Bright Abbot on EVERWOOD is joining the cast of PARKS & RECREATION – the new Amy Poehler comedy premiering in April.  Chris will be playing the boyfriend of Rashida Jones’ character. May I just say YAY!! I love when EVERWOODians show up on my TV. Now I’m even more excited for the new show.

A Big (Screen) Move for John Krasinski…
Speaking of Rashida Jones former (on-screen) love interests.  John Krasinski has been cast in an upcoming Nancy Meyers romantic comedy.  I know, I know, he hasn’t had the best luck to date on the big screen, but this flick has also cast Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep so maybe it will be a big hit. I guess that’s what we were saying about the Clooney/Zellwger flick too – but John was great in that – he couldn’t help it if the script was a mess. (Ok I’m reaching here, I know, but I support the family people!)

In the film Krasinski would play the son of Streep and Baldwin, who have recently divorced. He’s ready to start life with a baby, a wife and his new job. This inspires her to start dating again and she’s swept off her feet by a new man (Martin). This, however, makes her ex-husband extremely jealous and he becomes smitten with her all over again. SO excited about Idina Menzel appearing on Private Practice! Maybe now I can actually sit through a whole episode! I am with you about Cheno making an appearance as well, though I’m not sure how likely that is (I’ve heard there is some “bad blood” between the two – though I tend to disbelieve negative chatter like that).

And that’s too bad about TR and Katherine leaving Grey’s (or getting the boot). I haven’t watched Grey’s at all since Erica left, but I’ve heard that TR hasn’t been on a whole lot, and also that Katherine’s storyline was taking a rather morbid turn.

Thanks for all the news! I’m so excited about Chris Pratt!

I’m so all over the Dr. Horrible panel at PaleyFest.

I was fortunate enough to have front row center tix to the panel for The Office and pretty good seats for Prison Break (though I was bitter Wenty was a no show.)

I’m beyond thrilled for Dr. Horrible. Perhaps not $250 thrilled, but thrilled nonetheless.

I wish I could watch Private Practice, but I gave up For Good on ABC with the cancellations of Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone. I could make an exception for Idina, but I’m Not That Girl (Thank Goodness).

    🙂

I heard that it’s not 100% confirmed that TR Knight and Heigle will be leaving Grey’s Anatomy. Based on this report from E!, Pickens doesn’t know what he’s saying: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b99363_Are_Katherine_and_T_R__Leaving__lt_i_gt_Grey_s_Anatomy_lt__i_gt__.html (sorry about the link). Looks like the people in charge haven’t made official decisions yet, but it is looking more likely.

I do not watch Private Practice but I will tune in for Idina!

CHERYL AND JILL SHOULD HAVE WON FIRST PRIZE TONIGHT. MY FRIENDS AND I SENSE THAT THE JUDGES ARE COOL TOWARD CHERYL. SHAWN AND HER PARTNER WERE GOOD, BUT CERTAINLY NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS CHERYL AND JILL WHO WERE PURISTS IN THE DANCE ARENA. SHAWN SHOWED A LOT OF ATHLETICISM. I AM SICK AND DISAPPOINTED THAT YOU CHOSE NOT TO HONOR THE REAL WINNER. IT DOESN’T MATTER THAT SHE’S WON TWICE ALREADY; HER TRIUMPHS ARE A TESTAMENT TO HER MASTERY AS A DANCER. MY FRIENDS SHARE MY FEELINGS. I DO NOT KNOW IF I COULD CONTINUE WATCHING…
