Weekend Catch-Up: BSG, Brothers & Sisters & The Amazing Race

February 17, 2009 by

This past weekend was a long weekend…at least for me. And as such I was very, very lazy which in turn meant I was a bad blogger. I’m going to try my very hardest to be more consistent with my recaps, but it’s so hard when shows air on the weekend and I’m usually not in blogger mode.

So until next week when I plan on doing better, here are my quick thoughts on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, BROTHERS & SISTERS and THE AMAZING RACE.

Battlestar Galactica…

Holy frak – I really don’t know what the hell happened this past episode. I had an extremely difficult time figure out all the nonsense that Anders was spewing. I know it’s extremely important but it came out in such a rushed fashion that I was utterly bewildered. Can someone draw me some kind of diagram of when all these various versions of the Cylons came to be? And just who is Daniel and how does he play into the larger story? I haven’t erased BSG from the DVR yet because I need to go back and watch again. I’m cursing Ducky for being away on vacation because I need my better (idiot) half to explain things to me. Did you all get it?

I must once again comment on the acting – just superb! Michael Trucco (Anders) delivered it this week. And John Hodgman – are you kidding me? Ron Moore had teased of his appearance on Twitter but I thought he was joking. Loved it! A little comic relief baked into otherwise heavy scenes.

This was my least favorite BSG of the new season, but then again I’m sure that’s not really fair since I blame my disinterest on Ellen. I know she’s crucial to the future and the past but I’ve never really liked her as a character.

Mama needs to go home and give this episode another try. Wish me luck.

Feel free to rip me a new one BSG fans.  Go for it.  Ha!

Keep on reading for quick updates on The Amazing Race and Brothers & Sisters.

The Amazing Race…
The 14th season of The Amazing Race kicked off on Sunday night with the eleven teams leaving California and heading to Switzerland. The producers didn’t hold back with the first two challenges. That bungee jump was ridiculous. I would have passed on just putting on the helmet. And who knew cheese could be such a pain in the ass (there is a joke buried somewhere in there but I’m too lazy to go find it). Kudos to that annoying country bumpkin couple for being the only team to use their brains. But even so I wish they had been voted off during the first round. They aren’t going far so I don’t have to worry to much. The mother and the deaf son had me bawling…and when Phil signed “You are Team Number 1″…well, I lost it. They are a likable team and I hope they do well. But one week in and I’m still voting for Mike White and his Dad. I think they are going to be a lot of fun this season.

Did you watch? Any teams standing out (in a good or bad way) yet?

Brothers & Sisters…
Am I crazy or is this starting to get good again? I really liked the focus on the individual character stories rather than yet another cliched Walker Family Dinner at Nora’s house. Speaking of, can someone just put that woman in a home already? She’s the most meddlesome woman – I don’t know how her children can stand her.

Bravo to the casting director of the show for casting Robert Pattinson’s little brother as Ryan Lafferty. Wait. What? That kid in not his brother? Could have fooled me. I’m interested in seeing how yet another Walker will fit into the family. Why Nora would think it was a good idea to spring him on his new half siblings is beyond me. Seriously, has she never met her kids.

Fingers crossed that Ryan and Rebecca don’t end up shacking up – I don’t think I could take it.

This week’s episode was a great set up for next week’s shocking 2-hour event. Duh duh duh…
I think I know some of the events that are going to unfold but I don’t know for sure so I’m going to keep a lid on it for now.

Don’t spoil if you know for sure, but any guesses on who kicks the bucket next weekend?

Holy frak, indeed! I tried watching Anders’ scene over and over, and I still couldn’t get it. Reading some very lengthy reivews has helped a little, but I’m just trying not to over think it in hopes that, if I’m patient, everything will reveal itself in the last episodes.

Thanks for recognizing Michael Trucco’s acting this episode. I’ve always really liked Anders, but not until the show is about to be over am I realizing how underused he has been and how much more I want to know about his character!

Finally, I’m glad Dollhouse has premiered so I can see Tahmoh Penikett every week, but I miss Tahmoh as Helo!!

Yeah- the new episode of BSG really required a lot of thinking and understanding- something I’m not very good at when it’s 10 at night LOL. I’ve read a few recaps of the episode though and I think I understand all of it a bit better now than I did before. Some of its still a bit fuzzy – like the whole issue of Daniel. I’m interested in seeing how all of it plays out

The Amazing Race is off to a fun start. The challenge with the cheese was hilarious. I can understand why a few of the team members said they never wanted to eat cheese again. I like the teams this year, but also wish that the self-proclaimed redneck team loses soon. They don’t stand a chance, and she cried the entire time.

As for BSG, I agree with you about not liking Ellen in past episodes. However, I really like how she became integral to the story in this one. This episode turned her character around for me, and I am looking forward to learning more. The biggest mystery for me revolves around Starbuck. I can’t figure out what happened with her, and I can’t wait to find out.

I am so glad TAR is back. I love the mom and son, the jockey guys and Mike and dad. This should be a fun season. I really like the new editing.

BSG – here’s is my issue – I am only on S3! I have been reading your recaps and listening to the podcasts so I know some of what is going on and I saw the last 4 episodes listed On Demand and I am dying to watch! Should I? Will it totally ruin everything if I am watching older episodes while watching the end of S5?
