Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, February 19, 2009

February 19, 2009 by

I can’t believe I am going to type this, but…I’m excited about GREY’S ANATOMY & PRIVATE PRACTICE tonight.  There I said it.  Whew.  That wasn’t easy.  But it’s true.  After last week’s crossover episode, which I personally really enjoyed, I’m ready for the crossover conclusion.  Let’s face it, after this week both shows are going to return to their mediocre selves so I’m going enjoy it while it lasts.

With THE OFFICE and 30 ROCK in reruns this week, I’m actually going to go out with my friends for dinner without stressing about how late I’m going to have to stay up to play TV catch up.  It’s going to be nice.

Ask and You (Might) Receive….
There’s still a lot going on tonight.  Anything you’re especially interested in?  I know I ask everyday but I really want to know.  Hearing from you sometimes helps me decide which shows we should be covering here on GMMR.  For instance, I learned form yesterday’s TV Spotlight that there were a lot of TOP CHEF fans here on GMMR.  As a result we are going to have SB provide reviews for the last few episodes of this season.  So make sure you pipe up.  I don’t list all the shows in the Spotlight post, but if there are other shows you are watching that are not listed here I’m up for hearing about those too.

Bones| 8pm on Fox
“The Princess and the Pear”
The team investigates at a fantasy convention when a female science fiction enthusiast is found murdered.

Survivor: Tocantins | 8pm on CBS
“The Poison Apple Needs to Go”

A twist allows the castaways to play the game like never before; a quest for a hidden immunity idol leaves two castaways in a tight spot.  [GMMR:Erik covered SURVIVOR for us last season, but there didn’t seem much of an appetite for it here on GMMR.  If I hear an outcry of love for the show I’ll try to work something out. ]

Ugly Betty | 8pm on ABC
“There’s No Place Like Mode”
Betty must cope with putting on a show for a bizarre new designer and with an assignment from YETI; Wilhelmina fears that she’s lost her edge; Daniel tries to give Molly a makeover.. [GMMR: Note to whoever writes the ep descriptions for UGLY BETTY – if you mention Marc and/or Amanda in the description there’s a 68.4% increase in the likelihood that I’ll watch.]

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“An Honest Mistake”
Derek and Addison face off as they try to save a pregnant patient’s life; a surgeon botches a standard procedure; Bailey is shocked by the chief’s recommendation letter.

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“Wait & See”
Addison suspects that Archer is up to his old tricks; a patient’s child is born with male and female reproductive organs; Violet and Sheldon co-lead a therapy group for couples.

America’s Best Dance Crew | 10pm on MTV
It’s a battle of the sexes when the two remaining all guy groups (Quest Crew and Strikers All Stars) take on the final two all girl groups (Beat Freaks and Fly Khicks). After tonight’s performances another crew will be sent home. [GMMR: Please let it be the Fly Khicks.]

Burn Notice | 10pm on USA
“Truth and Reconciliaiton

Michael takes on a sympathy case for a Haitian man whose daughter was murdered by a corrupt government official he believes is hiding in Miami; Michael gets closer to tracking down the person who tried to kill him.

ER | 10pm on NBC
“The Beginning of the End
Banfield is determined to have a baby; Neela gives a girl good news about her mother’s surgery; Dr. Carter makes a surprise visit to the ER. [GMMR: Anyone excited for the return of Noah Wyle tonight?  I might tune in to see what’s been going on with Dr. Carter.]

VIDEO: Noah reflects on his rolodex of memories from his 11 years on the show.

Also playing…

  • My Name is Earl | 8:30pm on NBC: Earl and Randy smell trouble when Darnell’s father (Danny Glover) comes to Camden claiming he wants to make amends with his son.
  • Kath & Kim | 8:30pm on NBC: Kath searches for her ex, Rusty, after discovering they are still married; Kim falls in love with roller derby.
  • CSI | 9pm on CBS: New evidence prompts the CSI team to reopen the investigation, as Langston testifies at the trial of a respected congressman.
  • Eleventh Hour | 10pm on CBS: A perfectly healthy helicopter pilot is mysteriously struck blind during his live TV traffic report, resulting in a terrible crash.

Lots and lots to choose from. What will YOU be watching?

I’ll be watching Bones and Burn Notice. And probably Private Practice. I can’t make myself watch Grey’s. I can’t. I hate everything about that show. Addison is my least favorite character on PP. With a repeat of Supernatural in there for fun because, well, I can watch Supernatural a million times and still love it.

Yeah on Top Chef!!!! It is almost over but never too late to recognize a great show. My girl Carla won last night and am hoping for her all the way.

Sadly i am a tad relieved there’s no Office tonight too, GMMR. Thursdays are just so tough, it is good to get a breather.

I’m so excited for Grey’s/PP too!! I don’t watch Survivor anymore…but I’ll miss no new episodes of Office and 30 Rock. i watch Ugly Betty only to waste time until the good shows start at 9pm! FYI – I watch Private Practice even before the cross-over, I think it’s great. So that’s my Thursday for you. 🙂

    No Supernatural? Booooo!

Bones and Burn Notice for me tonight, along with last night’s Lost that I still haven’t had the chance to watch yet. It’s SOOO hard to stay unspoiled on that show as it is, and then to be a day behind and successfully avoid having any major things revealed when you work in an office where you have Lost Redux on Thursdays mornings? I deserve a medal. Preferably one made of a yogurt lid.

I really liked the crossover of Greys and Private Practice, but those two shows will not be on my DVR anytime soon. I’ll always watch them online when I am working and can mostly just listen and watch out of the corner of my eye.

Excited for ER! This season has been great!

Burn Notice is must see t.v.

Survivor is another one to watch online when there’s nothing else going on. It is increasingly annoying that the contestants are hand-picked superstars and not the every man who deserves a break from their real life for a chance at a cool mil.

I caught the Biggest Loser tonight after hearing Ducky talk about it. It was a good show. Allison Sweeny has studied Jeff Probst. She’s doing a pretty good job at being the female version, the way she talks during the challenges and addressing their reactions to things. She is good, but doesn’t seem genuine since it’s just a rip-off of Probst. I’d like to see the producers give her a chance to find her own voice as host. Not that it’s about the host, but if she’s going to be there season after season…..
