24 Debrief: Day 7 | 6:00 pm-8:00 pm

Jack went into the White House to stop the attack under the radar. He captured Ryan Burnett and began to torture him to find out when the attack would occur and how. Before he could get information, President Taylor stopped him, arresting him.

Renee was at the hospital when she saw one of Juma’s henchmen kill Dubaku. She followed him back to Juma’s headquarters, where she saw them leave on a boat and found their plans of the attack on the White House. She jumped onto the boat and followed them before being attacked by Dubaku’s son. Larry showed up and saved Renee.

Meanwhile, over at the FBI HQ, Janis found out that Chloe was working with Jack on something covert and off the grid, so Chloe was arrested.

Jack and Tony’s plan was for Burnett to spill details on the attack in exchange for immunity. When he refused to do that, the attack went as planned. The Juma-led group ended up taking everyone remaining in the White House hostage, minus the President and Jack, who ended up in a panic room and Aaron and Olivia, who were hiding and trying to find a way out.

Renee and Larry tried to go into the White House to stop the conflict. To do this, they went to Vice President whatshisname (Seriously. I have a shiny new nickel for anyone who can tell me the name of the pansy.) who wouldn’t give authorization based on the intel the two were presenting.

When Jack stopped the terrorists from hacking into the panic room Juma, seemingly running out of options, called Jonas Hodges, his man inside the government. Hodges told him that Olivia Taylor was in the White House and that he should use her as leverage, which he did. He threatened to torture Olivia if the President did not leave the panic room. At the end of the episode, Jack was put with the other hostages, including Bill, a wounded Aaron and Sen. Mayer and President Taylor was told to prepare to speak to the public…for the last time.

Agent Philboy’s Assessment

This is the first episode (I’m viewing it as one episode) that I have mixed feelings about. I feel like we were made to suspend a lot of reality tonight, more than “24” makes us suspend. No one…NO ONE…would have noticed a group of men, walking through the White House, in camouflage, with automatic weapons? The writers had to figure out a way to get Juma into the White House, I guess, but it seems like there are less far-fetched ways to do it. But, I’m not a writer, so I wouldn’t know, I guess.

I was happy to finally be introduced to Jon Voight’s character, Jonas Hodges, who I believe isgoing to be the bad man extraordinaire for the rest of the season, at least along with Juma.

Otherwise, I thought this episode was a series of instances where characters were run through the longest way possible to solve a situation. All of this could have probably been done in an hour-long episode. I’m intrigued with where things ended up and the situation that Jack, Bill, Aaron (HANG IN THERE, AARON!), Sen. Mayer and the Taylor’s are in right now. There are a lot of things that make Jack angry, but slapping the President in front of him has to be up there near the top. I’m hoping to have the action-packed episode I was hoping for tonight next week.

Everything I Need to Know in Life I Learned from Jack Bauer (and Others)…

  • When making blueprints for a plan to overthrow the government, make sure to include an artist’s beautiful, camera-sized rendition of the target.
  • When you take the tip off of a stun gun, it just becomes 400 times worse.
  • Camouflage matches the White House paint scheme.
  • Every government building is accessible through underground tunnels or sewer systems.
  • In this economy, never underestimate someone who thinks you’re there to steal his or her job.
  • Aaron Pierce holds the Fountain of Youth. Five administrations? Seriously?! Why am I not surprised?
  • Every administration has one wussie.

Weekly Kill Count = 18 Total Kill Count = 325+

What did you guys think of the episode? Too unbelievable? Did it jump the shark?

Philboy is GMMR’s resident Dexter and 24 analyst. He spends his days studying Communications at Purdue University and his nights failing at keeping up with all of the TV shows he loves. His can’t miss shows are “24”, “Chuck”, and “Life on Mars”. The thoughts running through his head for this week are, “Should I be this excited for ‘My Two Dads’ on DVD?” and “I hope Apple’s customer service is as good as they say it is!”

The beautiful artist elevation drawing of the white house slayed me too and I also think this was one of the worst paced of the eps this year. I love 24 but this one disappointed 🙁

My husband wanted to muzzle me halfway through the episode as I shouted things like ‘They KNOW a threat is coming to DC and the president is not in a bunker?’, ‘They seriously have NO back way out, or hidden staircases in the White House? Didn’t they see National Treasure!? Or Dave?!’, or ‘Come on, the Secret Service can’t tap into that video feed? I bet Chloe can!’ or a hundred more of them. You did have to suspend A LOT of disbelief, but even a lesser episode of 24 is still good tv, right??
