BONES: The Bones That Foam - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

BONES: The Bones That Foam

March 13, 2009 by

Trust BONES to have the line “Everyone knows you don’t touch the monkey” and have it be about an ACTUAL monkey. And here’s the thing. I love the show, BONES. There has been a lot of criticism of the episodes this season (and some from me, I admit), but I really do love it. Cheers to David Boreanaz for a very smooth BONES directorial debut, and I was pleased that DB wasn’t absent from this episode. But I was the most pleased with the way the entire cast was used in the episode.

THE CASE:
A bungee-jumping bride and groom see a decomposing body (very gross…maybe one of the grossest ever in four seasons, what say you?), but when the team gets it back to the lab, there are a few complications. Namely that the bones are foaming, and, all of the evidence is evaporating, and, the alarms keep going off. So yeah, complications. Meanwhile, Booth and Brennan have to dig deep into the world of car salesmen to try and crack this case. I liked this case; I thought it was pretty creative. Oh, and did I mention the victim’s remains ALSO caught on fire?

THE SQUINTS:

  • Mr. Nigel Murray: I love him. I really do. I love his facts and brains and accent, and I just think he’s great. Tonight was no different.
  • Hodgins: He’s the undisputed King of the Lab. Was this episode super sciencey or what? Just like I like it, and Hodgins didn’t disappoint. I LOVED when he and MNM were trying to let Cam let them get the body out of the plastic tube thing.

  • Cam: Very excellent. What was her deal at the end? Why is she so frustrated? Thoughts? I mean, sure the case was frustrating, but the wine wasn’t THAT good, right? Something else is going on there.
  • Angela: Angela was in the episode for like 0.2 seconds, but she was A-MA-ZING and full of goodness. I love when Angela tells Brennan like it is, especially where it concerns Booth. I also liked Angela standing up for herself with the rest of the team.
  • Sweets: Haha. Hahahahaha. Sweets as Brennan’s ‘manipulation/people skills’ coach was fun. And I also loved the way he apologized to Booth as Brennan plowed her way through the interrogation. But his ‘emotion’ faces were really the best part of that whole dealio.

BOOTH AND BRENNAN:
Now, hear me out. But I say Booth and Brennan are better apart. Wait, wait. Come back, come back. Hear me out. When Brennan is in the lab, and Booth doing his Booth thing he’s so good at, the show just hums with delightful energy. It’s when the writers try to make them into ‘boothandbrennan’, always together, always saying or doing the same stuff, that the show loses some oomph. But when they are each the best at what they are best at, then…when they have those special moments of acknowledging each other, that’s what brings them closer together, personally. And I think Brennan finally got it, at the end. And Booth accepted her compliment, which is a step for him, too. I don’t know how ED and DB made it through the lap dance scene without laughing every time Brennan had to be interested in the whole thing anthropologically, but that brings me to my favorite line of the night.

“That’s my gun.”

So what do you say? Did you like the episode? Sound off below in the comments.

I loved last nights episode. I was just kind of giddy afterwards. I’ve been watching so much S1, and just, I guess this reminded me of it in a way. It’s all science and fun, and the manipulation. Oh, so many great lines also.

I really, really liked this episode. It’s like the writers listened to our complaints and decided to make the haters and nitpickers shut up for a while. XD
    1. Booth is too goofy and stupid this season.
    – “Booth is brilliant at pretending he is stupider than he actually is. Specially around you.” ~ Angela. I love you Angela. And I think the writers completely pwned all of us who complained about it. I know I did.
    2. Not enough case and science, too much drama.
    – This one was all about case, yet the character development somehow still managed to be good. A nice case, too. Lots of suspects, just like we like ’em.
    3. Booth barely ever watches the road when he drives. It’s dangerous.
    – CUZ HE DOESN’T NEED TO, BABY!! AHAHAHA!! I love that scene. Remember Yanks in the UK? Well this makes up for it.
    4. Angela is useless these days. She doesn’t do anything.
    – Nuh-uh. She came up with a new computer program and made Brennan (and the viewers) realize that Booth is even nicer than we all thought. Which I didn’t know was even possible.
    5. Hodgins is boring this season. He’s not fun anymore.
    – “King of the lab!” *struts off the platform triumphantly* ~Hodgins.
I think Hodgins is officially back.
    6. Zack!
    – Well ok, maybe not that one.

I was initially worried about the lapdance, but it ended up being enjoyable and funny (if they can show that much cleavage, they can also show this much… well, later on, right?). I am now convinced that Booth has not had any nookie for a long while, and I’m really glad no one said the forever hated “we’re just partners” line when Ms. Lust called Booth her boyfriend. DB’s directing was smooth and better than I expected, and the whole cast was awesome, even Nigel-Murray even though he’s sort of annoying. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised, from the gross foaming body, to Cam being stressed out, to Brennan trying to be like Booth, to the eyesex and roadblock at the end.

Bones is back! WOOT. Not that it was ever really gone in the first place. See, that’s why you should stay positive, sometimes. And hey, no more preemptions.

I liked the playfullness of this episode. Plus “king of the lab!” made me grin like a fool. As did Sweets. So many great things. I am so excited to have 10 more episodes in a row! Whoot!

Though I thought the closing shot of this ep was a bit much, overall I found the episode enjoyable.

Sweets was just wonderful (as always). I, too, loved when he apologized to Booth when Brennan was in the interrogation room!

And I agree, Angela was wonderful, for the few seconds they used her for. I love it when she asked why no one came to her when they needed the impossible done! haha….

Everyone served a purpose in the episode, which was nice. I hate it when a squint is standing around in an ep, cracking a remark here and there, and then when it’s over, I find myself asking, “What was the point of them being there??” There was none of that with this one, which is good.

Hodgins is getting more comfortable with calling King of the Lab. Good.

This season is improving with each episode, and I find myself REALLY enjoying it again (which was not the case with the five or six eps).

    Though, I won’t be bungy-jumping anytime soon.

    Or giving lapdances……

oh, and foamy bones = gross

I loved it. It was gross and squirmy and really funny. My only complaint is that I’ve been watching S3 and last night I watched The Intern in the Incinerator and in that episode, Bones interrogates someone BY HERSELF and she’s rather effective at it. But other than that slight mis-step, it was a great ep.

Oh, and I adored the craziness of the teaser. It’s like the writers were all, “Let’s have someone discover a dead body on their wedding day! And maybe they should be in a hot-air balloon. Also, they’re bungee jumping!” AWESOME.

I really enjoyed this episode! I actually didn’t think I would from reading the synopsis. And yeah- the body was pretty bad last night. That usually doesn’t bother me at all either. Although- I’m not sure it was the worst ever. I’ve been re-watching season 2 lately and I had forgotten how gross the bodies from the episode “The Bodies in the Book” were. My favorite scene was between Sweets and Brennan when he was doing the faces. And then followed up with a “Do you think Booth had training like this?” from Brennan at the end LOL.

I nearly cried when Hodgins said he was King of the Lab! I still miss Zack 🙁
