Looking to find out who went home during the first week of Season 9? Click here to find out: Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL (Feb. 25, 2010)

PREVIOUS POST

Should be an interesting night. In this day and age of TiVos and the such, what happens when a show runs over and a certain percentage of your voting audience misses an entire performance? Of course there is absolutely zero chance that Adam Lambert is going home tonight, but it was a big faux pas and it needs to be addressed.

Since it won’t be Adam going home, who will it be? Hopefully Scott! Dare to dream.

I’ll be live blogging IDOL tonight, so if you’re watching feel free to share your comments as we go.

9:06pm: Frankie Avalon surprises the audience with an impromptu performance of “Venue”. The audience in the theater and the studio wonders who the hell the old guy is on the stage. Simon looks shocked and thrilled.

9:07pm: My computer crashes and needs to be rebooted. Really? During an IDOL live blog? Thanks for nothing.

9:09pm: The Idol wannabes take the stage and sing “Can’t Get You Our of My Head” LIVE (gasp). Well, that better have been live because it was God awful. I couldn’t tell which one (Scott), but one of the guys (Scott) was way off.

9:12pm: This week’s Ford music shoot music had the group singing Britney Spears’ “Circus”. It sounded like a really bad high school choir. Individually they are great, but together it’s a huge embarrassment.

9:18pm: Let the results begin.

  • Adam Lambert – SAFE
  • Kris Allen – SAFE
  • Anoop Desai – Bottom Three (WOW!)

9:25pm: Flor Rida takes the stage. Interesting outfit choice – he’s wearing apple bottom jeans, boots with fur. I thought perhaps he should have gone for baggy sweat pants and Rebooks with the straps. The performance was good enough I suppose. It didn’t do much for me. The half naked ladies might be more appealing to others. Ryan asked him about his tour and Fox quiet beeped him out.  Did he swear? Did he mention a website? What’s that all about?

9:34pm: We’re back and Ryan’s going to send two more people to the silver stools of solitude.

  • Danny Gokey – SAFE
  • Matt Giraud – SAFE (Seacrest – stop messing with my boy)
  • Scott MacIntyre – Bottom Three (Finally)
  • Allison Iraheta – SAFE (Good job, America!!)
  • Lil Rounds – Bottom Three

9:42pm: We’re back from commercial and Kellie Pickler is taking the stage. She looks better than I have seen her look in quite some time.  I thought she sounded a bit screechy. She was yelling at time. The end was a disaster. Wait? We aren’t critiquing her? Oops. She is too cute for words!

9:48pm: Back to the results.  Time to send someone back to safety.  That person is…Lil. Damn. I can’t believe more people didn’t vote for Anoop last night.

9:52pm: It’s down to Anoop and Scott tonight. Only 30,000 votes separate the two tonight.  The person with the lowest number of votes is….Scott.

FINALLY!!! If the judges use their save tonight I will never watch this show again. Scott seems like a great guy but this is should be as far as he goes.

The judges have deliberated and they were initially 50/50 but after a looooong debate they decided that it was time for Scott to go. It actually seemed to pain Simon to have to let him go. It was the right decision for the show.

So what do you think about tonight’s results?  Should have the judges used the save on Scott?

Simon looked completely in love when Frankie Avalon came on stage!

Scott is an ultra talented musician but not an ultra talented singer. He is amazingly talented with the piano but this is a singing contest.

It’s about time. Watching him these last few weeks has been painful. I like him and he is a remarkable role model, but his song selection was horrible and the way he sang them made me fast forward through his performances. Maybe if a manager choses his songs he might be able to sing to them better. He’ll get to tour with the top ten, so it’s not like he’s falling off the map.

So, bravo to the veiwers for finally cutting him.

There were a few others who were booted out earlier but whom I thought would have better chances than Scott being in the top 10. In the first place Scott can never be an amercian idol given his limited ability to perform and not-so-outstanding voice quality!

  7. Chris on April 8th, 2009 10:44 pm

Scott is a hell of a better singer than Anoop!!!!!! America, get your head out of your butt!!!

holy cow GMMR you need comment moderation . . . [@scrappy cocoa]

  10. James on April 8th, 2009 10:57 pm

Damn, the Yankees lost to the frikin Orioles tonight.

  11. Nicole on April 8th, 2009 10:58 pm

Wow, scrappy cocoa. I’m sure your ridiculous comment will be deleted soon enough, but bravo for highlighting the faults of the modern educational system. Where are these people coming from? Jeez…

Anyhow, just wanted to chime in to say that I’m really glad that the timing error didn’t cost Adam any votes. I didn’t catch the show tonight (hope it doesn’t suffer too much in the ratings, :)), but did they address the issue at all? Or did they simply pretend it didn’t happen? (I snagged this avatar from your Twitter post Kath – good call!)

Sorry all. I was watching LOST and wasn’t on top of it when those comments came through. They’ve been removed.

  13. BoiseGirl on April 8th, 2009 11:41 pm

Yes, it was right for Scott to be eliminated tonight. And it was right to not use the save on him. I felt like the judges were too soft on him pretty much throughout. I’m no musical producer/singer, but even I could hear that his notes are not on pitch! The start of a lot of his notes was just under the note, and then toward then end of singing the note he would finally reach it. It was painful to listen to. Add to that he was getting a bit too sassy and to me annoying the last go-round with the judges…..

Really glad Matt didn’t have to suffer through sitting on the stools! He needs to wear that hat every performance. It looks great.

Wasn’t surprised to see Lil in bottom three, but was happily surprised she ended up safe. I think she’s getting by pretty much on her personality at this point. A lesson Anoop would be wise to quickly adopt. He’s a brat and I DO NOT like him. And he looks like the perpetual college co-ed. Wassup with the clothing choices, Anoop? That striped green sweater was reason enough to send him to bottom three.

The judges are waiting to use their “save” when
Or if Allison or Adam get outted. These
Will be the final 2 unless either falls apart.
Scott a good muscuan but surprised his singing
    Has carried him this far.

  15. Kathy on April 9th, 2009 1:15 am

I agree with Nina, but I don’t think either of the two will fall apart. I think they are holding the save for Matt. I think they will be the top three. Matt and Allison might duke it out for top two, but Adam can do no wrong at this point. It’s could be irritating to watch everybody just fall all over themselves over him, but he seems to take it in stride and give credit where it’s due.

  16. John on April 9th, 2009 2:03 am

Ok first off, Scott is an amazing singer, and so is Matt, Danny, Allison, and Kris but as far as Anoop and Lil, I think that they aren’t so great…ESPECIALLY Anoop. He sucks and should be voted off a.s.a.p. And Adam is ok, not at all my style of singing but I do give him credit for taking songs and making them his own and very very unique lol.

  17. Dugan on April 9th, 2009 2:06 am

well here’s what i think,to me any of the top 10 are subject to get a one shot record deal.but they’re down to 7,they have to use the save by week 5 or the way i’m thinking before the last 5 contestants,i think Anoop and Lil will remain in the bottom 2 till they’re eventually gone, unless they do something really great in the next couple of weeks, that being said i think they’ll use the save when and if any of the other 5 MATT, DANNY,KRIS,ALLISON ,or ADAM where to be vote off by chance before Anoop or Lil. here’s my final thought at this time, DANNY,MATT,and KRIS on any given night depending on the song could go in any order then ALLISON and then ADAM at this point unless he swallows a stupid will make it to the top.

  18. Dugan on April 9th, 2009 3:19 am

if ADAM swallows a stupid pill is what i was trying to say duh speaking of stupid guess that’d be me huh ? lol

  19. Lisa (aka lmr) on April 9th, 2009 7:47 am

Boisegirl, I am so with you, sorry GMMR I know you like Anoop “A lesson Anoop would be wise to quickly adopt. He’s a brat and I DO NOT like him.”

He lost all or any love I had for him last night. When the last 2 were left standing, Scott said words to the effect of “it’s me” to Anoop to reassure him and I could tell Scott would have liked to reach out…duh.. Anoop put your arm around him. Anoop was so self-absorbed – he is not going to make the final 5 no matter, what would it kill him to put his arm around the guy? From Anoop’s childhood photo package earlier in the week I could tell he is s spoiled only child. He is now officially and Shrutifically ‘shunned’ by me.

Scott had to go but still sad, nice kid, great musician.

  20. strunkette on April 9th, 2009 9:56 am

For once I got the bottom three right and the person going home 🙂 It was Scott’s time to go and I also would have stopped watching if they had saved him. Did it sound like Randy was saying save him to Simon to anyone else. I could have sworn he was. If so it just goes to show he’s a worthless judge. They need that save for Allison, Matt, Kris…you get the idea hehe!

Scott I wish only good things for you in the future and hope you do well in life. Idol was just not your venue.

  21. kelsey on April 9th, 2009 12:28 pm

im glad scott finally went home…none of the american idols have what it takes this year except for the only one who will eventually become the next american idol the one that can actually perform and sing a wide range and has the looks…and i think before i even say who it is u new who im talking about…adam<333

  22. Nikitafullmoon on April 11th, 2009 1:41 pm

I would like to see Anoop go ASAP, too, but IMHO his cover of “True Colours” was shockingly brilliant and he didn’t deserve to go home THIS week.

Scott, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, and dog willing, Anoop will soon be joining you.
