CHUCK vs. The Music: The Unofficial CHUCK Soundtrack

April 10, 2009 by

If you follow any of us on twitter (@gmmr, @duckydoestv, @mytakeontv, @raelee @justjody) you may have heard reference to a “Chuck soundtrack” and wondered what the heck we were talking about. A CHUCK soundtrack? What’s that you say?

Well, as a long-time fan of The O.C. soundtracks, Just Jody waited patiently for the Chuck soundtrack to arrive. During our exclusive interview with CHUCK creator Josh Schwartz we found out that a CHUCK soundtrack wasn’t in the works, so Just Jody decided to take matters into her own hands. And thus the UNofficial Chuck Soundtrack was born.

Just Jody was kind enough to gift me with the unofficial CHUCK soundtrack as a Christmas present and I have to tell you have I play it all the time…as in almost every time I’m in my car.  It’s one of my favorite CDs.

Now, as a Chuck week treat, we’re offering up the chance for you to have a copy as well.  Just Jody has provided you with the artwork and track listing, so all you have to do is put them together.  The only requirement for helping yourself to a copy of the UNofficial Chuck Soundtrack is that you MUST watch all three remaining episodes of Chuck this season and you must at get at least two new people watching over the new few weeks. Simple, right?

Please be sure to thank Just Jody for all her hard work.

What tracks would YOU want to have on a CHUCK soundtrack?

I have been a Chuck fan since the original airing of the pilot episode…I take credit for turning on no less than thirty people to the show….And I am so excited someone decided to put out an unofficial soundtrack, but where is Tom Sawyer???????? That was indeed a pivotal moment in the show as well as a kickass song!!

  2. tw111 on April 10th, 2009 3:59 pm

Chuck does have a great track…. but without a doubt, the best score on a tv show today is the one on Life. That music is really awesome….

  3. SB on April 10th, 2009 4:03 pm

Fascinating! I hadn’t considered making my own soundtrack! This one is great–I do agree with Stacy that Tom Sawyer would totally be on mine. I also liked the Frightened Rabbit song and both Blitzen Trapper songs, but the Shins, Gnarls, Britney, and Chumbawumba are all awesome. What about the theme song?

Forget a soundtrack. I’m going to need a box set.

  4. SB on April 10th, 2009 4:14 pm

Oh, hello dummy! [/30 Rock] The opening credits song is the very first one. I’m having trouble with reading comprehension today, don’t mind me.

  5. Dio on April 10th, 2009 4:18 pm

    Tubthumping – Chumbawumba

Priceless! My high school all over again, just like Sarah hehe!

  6. Jason on April 10th, 2009 4:22 pm

I just created an iMix on iTunes for this… lots of fun.

  7. Phyllis Vance on April 10th, 2009 4:26 pm

No Foux de Fa Fa? It’s ok, I already have that on my FotC cd. 😉

My best friend made me my own Chuck Soundtrack this fall from her itunes library, and it’s fun to see the overlaps.

  8. SB on April 10th, 2009 4:38 pm

Oh, Phyllis Vance, I forgot how excited I was to hear FotC on Chuck! Good call!

  9. Phyllis Vance on April 10th, 2009 4:42 pm

I’m seeing them live in a week and a day! Not to sidetrack the conversation or anything.

  10. JT on April 10th, 2009 7:15 pm

My favorite Chuck song is No One’s Gonna Love You by Band of Horses that played at the end of vs. the Nemesis.

My current ring tone is Furr by Blitzen Trapper which is currently free on

  11. Jess on April 10th, 2009 7:47 pm

I agree with the above, my absolute favorite Chuck song was No One’s Gonna Love you by BoH and that was the exact moment when I realized I was in love with the music on Chuck. They had a Cassettes Won’t Listen song this season (Freeze and Explode) that I love and the Bon Iver and Blitzen Trapper is awesome as well. Thanks for putting this together!!

  12. Jen (HIMYM) on April 10th, 2009 7:59 pm

Oh I loooove “No One’s Gonna Love You” by Band of Horses. During the fall season I started making my own mixes to all my fave shows, including Chuck. I had done one for The O.C. right before it ended and I was amazed at how many songs I had in my iTunes library that were featured on the show. I was keeping up for awhile but not any more. Maybe something for me to do this summer when the TV season is lacking. Love the mix!

  13. Anna on April 10th, 2009 10:38 pm

What about “Buildings and Mountains” by the Republic Tigers?

  14. Forts on April 11th, 2009 12:24 pm

Talking Heads – “Once In A Lifetime”
    Chuck vs. The Suburbs

Gotta have it! Not only does it perfectly describe the episode, it seems to encompass Chuck’s feelings since he downloaded the intersect into his head.

    Glasvegas- “Daddy’s Gone”
    Chuck vs. The Dream Job

You have to consider this a pivotal moment in the series. This song was used, not once but TWICE in this episode. First, when Chuck watched his Dad being taken away by Fulcrum agents, as he was being pulled out of the room by Casey and Sarah.
And the second time, when Ellie came home to Awesome’s pancakes and a (once again) absent father.

  15. Jess on April 11th, 2009 3:07 pm

Oh, I almost forgot my most recent obsession from Chuck:

“Signs” by Bloc Party. Chuck vs. the Lethal Weapon

  16. AstronomySnap on April 11th, 2009 3:19 pm

I made my own soundtrack a few weeks ago and these are on it:

    1. Short skirt, Long Jacket by Cake
    2. Cobrastyle by Teddybears
    3. Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis (Stanford c/ ’03!!!)
    4. No One’s Gonna Love You by Band of Horses
    5. Sugar Assault Me Now by Pop Levi (PINEAPPLE!!!!)
    6. Dropped by Phantom Planet (Sarah and Chuck getting dressed, anyone?)
    7. The Twist by Frightened Rabbit (Don’t kill Chuck, Casey!!!)
    8. Love It All by the Kooks (Damn Bryce why’d you have to be there again?)
    9. Tom Sawyer by Rush
    10. Clap Your Brains Off by ??? (Sarah crawling over Chuck in lingerie. Thats all!)
    11. Wannamama by Pop Levi (Best fight scene ever in a car!)
    12. Africa by Toto (JEFFSTER!!!)
    13. God & Suicide (Sarah loved brushing her teeth with Chuck!!!)
    14. Signs by Bloc Party
    15. Bite Hard by Franz Ferdinand

AND I will be adding Daddys Gone by glasvegas because I cant stop listening to it!!!!

  17. Michele on April 11th, 2009 5:19 pm

    Africa! Africa! Africa!

(OH, and Short Skirt Long Jacket? AWESOME!)

  18. Kaye on April 11th, 2009 9:59 pm

Oooh I love Signs as well, along with Love it All, Fresh Feeling and Bon Iver’s Skinny Love and Blood Bank. Chuck songs are awesome!

  19. palais on April 11th, 2009 10:04 pm

    Africa. Give Jeffster some love.

  20. Karen on April 12th, 2009 1:52 am

I have a 32 track playlist from season one and 35 so far for season two. I carry them in my ipod when I travel, along with the shows ( Have the season pass on itunes), and burn CDs for my car. The music is one of the great aspects of the show. Love too many to name them all, but have bought full CDs by “Your Vegas”, ” Frightened Rabbit”,” Band Of Horses” and “The Shins” because of the show.

  21. jumoeder on April 12th, 2009 5:56 pm

daddy’s gone on the end of versus the dream job. the song perfectly fitted in the scene and i saw that scene now like 25 times, and i’m sure that with another song it wouldn’t have the same feel as it has now.

  22. tom on April 13th, 2009 5:05 pm

No ones gonna love you is my favorite. Great song and great timing.

  23. Chappysmom » Handsome on April 13th, 2009 6:47 pm

[…] Because they have a great soundtrack. (See? Here’s a list of tracks. And here’s a “soundtrack” that the nice people at GMMR put together–you can just click play and let it stream onto your computer.) … Though […]

  24. Joyeful on April 13th, 2009 10:35 pm

Guys…Africa HAS to be on that setlist LOLOL.

I will never hear that song the same way again…

  25. MsFeasance on April 14th, 2009 6:23 pm

No “Luisa’s Bones”? That’s the earworm that really stuck with me from ‘Chuck vs. the Dream Job”.

  26. Vi on April 19th, 2009 2:12 pm

Where are all the 80’s songs on your playlist? Seems empty. Makes me sad.

  27. Wu Kong on April 21st, 2009 2:27 am

I have to add a vote (I know we’re not really voting) for Oasis and “Don’t Look Back in Anger”. Not only was it perfect for the Chuck/Stanford flashback, but it also reminded me that I liked Oasis back in the day.

  28. Riz on April 21st, 2009 2:39 am

On tonights episode of CHUCK, the band Malbec had their song “ANSWERING MACHINE” featured in the show. Youy can download the song for FREE here:

  29. Nat on April 26th, 2009 11:54 pm

    I like that selection !

I’ve been working on an Unofficial Chuck Soundtrack for the past few months, I’m having a hard time keeping it down to just one disk with all their great songs ;D

So far my favourites are Short Skirt/Long Jacket [DUHH !], A Comet Appears, Into Your Dream, and Christmas And Me Are Through !

  30. Nat on April 26th, 2009 11:56 pm

    Oh and OF COURSE . . . TOTO BY AFRICA ! ! !

    W00T !

    I made myself a Jeffster tshirt !

  31. Ashok on April 27th, 2009 9:35 pm

Britney Spears!? Are you serious? I don’t really remember that scene… it was probably used well in it, but that song is definitely not going on any soundtrack I’m making. The rest of the choices are great. I especially liked The Shins.

  32. Sarah on May 3rd, 2009 8:58 pm

Wow, this compilation is AWESOME! Thank you!

Question, though: Does anyone have a list of all the songs used in the series? I was thinking of making my list, but I thought I should ask around first. Thanks!

  33. Paul on May 4th, 2009 2:34 pm

I’m trying to find the name of the song played during the beach wedding on Chuch vs the ring.

  34. MsFeasance on May 6th, 2009 12:06 pm

Paul, that was “Christmas TV” by Slow Club

  35. veronika on May 10th, 2009 8:53 am

Anyone here knows what’s the music playing in ‘Chuck vs the ring’ when he decides to organize a second wedding for Ellie?
It only plays for a short while, and I am unable to find any info about it, even though it sounds really good…
It would be great if you could tell me! Thanks in advance! v.

  36. DeMorgan on May 21st, 2009 5:02 pm

The Touch by Stan Bush originally from Transformers: The Movie soundtrack. It was on the episode when Jeff was trying to beat the Missile Command record.

  37. Team Charah on May 25th, 2009 12:29 am

My friend & I are slowly building up on the Chuck music. We’ve compiled about 30 songs so far from season 1 & 2. I missed Signs (thanks, AstronomySnap). How could I have missed the Chuck’s-not-passive-after-all song?

Yes, wannamama was a great background song to that great fight scene inside the car. very creative! if there’d been enough airtime, they could’ve shown how the entire inside of a car could’ve been turned into deadly weapons. =p

Creature Fear is great because it so nailed what Charah was — “so ready for us” after 33 episodes. Now if only someone could provide the correct lyrics cause I couldn’t comprehend some parts of the song. I’m just sayin’.

My favorite however is 3 rounds & a sound. Blind Pilot probably has the most soothing voice I’ve ever heard.

  38. Team Charah on May 25th, 2009 12:36 am

Hi, Sarah. So far, this seems to be the most complete one I’ve seen on the web and it also indicates which scene the songs were playing to.

    Season 1

    Season 2

  39. BDL on May 31st, 2009 9:48 pm

Hopefully someone knows the music in the background on this scene:

  40. Kaylynn on June 7th, 2009 12:22 pm

Yay, I’ve been looking for something like this. Thank so much. Chuck is the best and while I didn’t get here in time to make with the rules my conscience is clean seeing as I recently hosted a Chuck Season 1 courtesy of blockbuster weekend marathon with a few friends and they are now equally hooked.

  41. Curious on June 7th, 2009 5:43 pm

I’ve been checking out these soundtracks but i can’t seem to find that one song that plays on most of the episodes, during the fight scenes. Usually it’s a guy growling a bit with some music in the back…i’d appreciate it if i could find out what it is!

  42. lindsay on June 9th, 2009 10:43 am

  48. Cinty on July 10th, 2009 4:03 pm

    Save Chuck!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  49. Team Charah on July 13th, 2009 6:42 am

Ola, Cinty! I’m not sure if you can find a complete version of all Chuck songs. You just need the complete song list & try to look for mp3s on the internet to complete your own playlist. if it helps, Creature Fear & Skinny Love are from the same CD “For Emma, Forever Ago”.
Btw, AstronomySnap makes great Charah videos, which you can find on youtube. I’m sure you’ll like em. There are various links in the strahotski discussion site.

Hi im looking for the song which is played at episode 3 season one (Chuck Vs the Tango) where Sarah is at buy more, it starts at 3:00 when morgan is telling Chuck that his “lady” has arrived. It sounds alot like tango music and something Gotan Project would do but i have most of their songs and cant seem to find if it is by them or not, i know that a Gotan project track is used in this season but it is not the same one.
    Help Please

Hey guys, I’m absolutely addicted to Chuck, mostly because of Casey, but the show is like among my top 5 for sure. Anyways, loved the list and the rest of tips, but I didn’t see MR. ROBOTO (by styx) on the list…it’s a classic…cannot forget Ellie and Awesome’s wedding gone bad and that “Indian lesbian” ruining the wedding as Papa Awesome said…priceless!

Showing my musical ignorance. What is the song that plays whenever Chuck goes into “battle mode” especially after he gets the 2.0 upgrade? (It does not have lyrics, but the sound is really “catchy.”)

My husband found a site that compiles a list of every song played during every episode of Chuck –

And how can no one have Creature Fear by Bon Iver on their soundtrack?!? The song playing when Chuck and Sarah are in the hotel after they wake up and start making out (for real) for the first time.
