April 13, 2009 by

Columbia University’s David Buckner is doing ok after passing out live during Glenn Beck’s show on Fox news.

Watch what happened….

People came to his aid, but is it just me or did they not seem to be in so much of a rush?

Why be surprised by the lack of rush. Fox could care less. It was a publicity stunt to publicize Beck’s new show.

The guy looked ill and was staggering, only an idiot would think this was a publicity stunt. Go watch your tree huggers on CNN

There’s no publicity stunt here; it’s not like the guy screamed in pain and smashed into the floor, he simply just began to faint and laid down to get some oxygen back into his head. He was also still moving about slowly and smoothly on the floor when they noticed.

So why the hate toward Fox and CNN? :p

They came to his aid when they saw something was wrong. Beck slowed his descent to the ground and kept him from hitting his head. Why would Beck stage a publicity stunt? He already has twice the audience of CNN & MSNBC combined.

I’m glad he’s OK. How odd was that? The crew is really conditioned not to come on camera, so I’m sure they were just shocked and didn’t know what to do. What he was saying was really interesting, though.

    Im glad he is OK.

And, Glen Beck has the larger audience because he appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Glen Beck SUCKS, I’M JUST GLAD THIS GUY DIDNT HIT HIS HEAD ON THE FLOOR. REMEMBER, IF SOMEONE LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE ABOUT TO PASSOUT, AND YOU EVEN ASK IT, THEN YOU NEED TO DROP THAT PAPER AND HOLD THE PERSON TO GET THEM TO THE GROUND OR COUCH!!!!

I can’t believe how NO ONE on the Fox set jumped to assist when this guy hit the ground!! There was a sound tech RIGH THERE and she just stepped around and didn’t do anything. What is wrong with these people??

I’m glad that David Buckner is ok, despite any opinion I may have about him.

And I think it’s really despicable for people to use this clip and this situation to hate on Glenn Beck and FOX News. I don’t even understand why this would be significant enough to post on this page at all KNOWING that it would start a war of words. Just END it please. I’m so over it.

I tried to post this a couple of days ago but I don’t think it ever went through…

Actually its a fairly common psychological phenomenon to not rush to someone’s aid when you are in a crowd of people. Its the bystander effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect). Its pluralistic ignorance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluralistic_ignorance). Its diffusion of responsibility (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion_of_responsibility), and its all fairly normal.

At least people stepped in, that doesn’t always happen. And Glenn Beck did a good thing because one of the surefire ways to make sure that you get the help you need is to ask for it. When you ask a specific person for help you are far more likely to get it. Sounds obvious I know, but people don’t always do that and thus don’t always get the help they need.

Thus endeth my social psychology lesson of the day =)
