BONES: The Girl in the Mask - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

BONES: The Girl in the Mask

April 24, 2009 by

Ah, this week’s episode starts OUT with a sweet Booth and Brennan moment! And at the diner, too. Be still my ever-Bones-lovin’ heart. It turns slightly bitter as Booth gets a disturbing call from a good friend in Tokyo. I liked this little insight into Booth’s pre-Bones life, and I really liked Brennan’s response to it. But more on that later!

The Case:

Booth’s friend Ken Nakamura calls him from Japan when his sister, who has been living in DC, stops returning his calls. Booth tells him not to worry, but when he and Brennan investigate, they learn Sachi (not sure how that is spelled), has been murdered. It’s up to the team to find out who did it, and it’s up to Booth and Brennan to also find out where her roommate and friend, Nozomi, is, as well as help Booth’s friend Ken, deal with his loss. Suspects include several grown men who have no good business with these girls at all.

The Squints:

Brennan is shuffling through the squintern’s profiles at the beginning of the episode. Not sure what that means, but you all know I love Nigel-Murray!

  • Dr. Haru Tanaka: A guest with Ken Nakamura. He is like a Japanese Brennan, which was fun to see. The team spends a lot of time trying to determine his gender and also trying to pretend they don’t really care what his gender is. Dr. Tanaka was a fun guest squint.(Played by Ally Maki).
  • Sweets: I like Sweets in the interrogation room, not in the lab. His “Sometimes I hate hard science. I know that seems immature, but that’s just how I feel” was very, very, funny, and I wonder if he’d ever say that to Brennan’s face.
  • Hodgins and Angela: Nothing really new in their relationship, and they both use their talents to help solve the case. Angela finds out the truth about Tanaka, and Hodgins has the line of the night : “ I rarely find motive in bird vomit”. HA!
  • Cam: Okay, was sawing through the skeleton head really necessary? Awful sound, the kind that hurts my teeth! AH!

Booth and Brennan:

I like “good friend” Booth and I REALLY like “intense, get to the bottom of the case, and get in the face of jerk pimp suspects” Booth. I liked the close to the end scene where he consulted with Ken in the interrogation room. And I liked Ken’s conversations with Brennan. I found it interesting that Brennan said she doesn’t have anyone in her life that she talks to on a daily basis, ‘outside of work’. I guess she sees Booth still as a work related relationship, and Angela, I suppose. But she uses the word love as if she believes in it. Maybe not romantic love, but commitment love. She believes that it exists; now she just needs to know that it’s worth the pain that comes along with it. And at the end, I think she wants Booth to convince her that it is. The one part of this episode that felt off to me was when Brennan questioned Booth’s quiet nature. We all know she knows he’s the quiet man, and a good man, so I wasn’t sure why she said that. But I liked that Ken told her next that she was a lucky woman. She plays it off, but it brings me to an important question for you.

It’s an official debate. Who was Dr. Wyatt talking about last week?? Which “one of them is acutely aware of that attraction, struggles with it daily as a matter of fact…”??

Just when I think I know, something else happens. Place your vote below!

I gotta say I wasn’t that impressed with the episode, but, eh, it kept getting intterupted on my end by storm warnings, so it took me out of it constantly.

However, I think Wyatt was talking about Bones. I think Booth realized it long ago, and has made peace with the fact. Bones has only recently realized her attraction, and is still struggling with it because its ‘wrong’ because she doesn’t think Booth feels the same way, etc.
    But god, I love them.

Thanks for the recap. It was a good episode. I agree about liking Booth when he’s pissed off and up in a suspect’s face. (I also liked him shooting that speaker after the dude spit on his badge in Mayhem on a Cross) Of course he’s just hot. i wished he didn’t have to give that guy a deal though – he gave me the heebie jeebies.

As far as which one knows that there is sexual attraction, I’m going with Booth.

I’ve watched the scene in Sweets office (several times) where Sweets says I saw what Dr Wyatt saw. So, here’s my thing, he’s smiling and Brennan is all why are you smiling and Sweets tells her and she’s like huh and Booth is like Come on. Let’s go eat. I’m thinking here that Booth knows what he saw and doesn’t want to talk about it. If Brennan thought he noticed the attraction she would not want to bring it up. I don’t think it’s her that fights the attraction daily.

Also, she tends to open her mouth and say what she’s thinking, so if it was her, I could reasonably see her saying something like “I think about having sex with you but that doesn’t inhibit my ability to function at my job” or somethign to that affect.

I am so excited about the season finale. YAY!!!

I liked this episode and I am not sure why. It was totally gross (the bodies seem to be getting more disgusting each week here lately) and yet the Anime squint was strangely interesting. I think the extra mystery made even Cam more likable.

I think it’s Brennan that Wyatt was talking about. I think she is afraid that whatever feelings she has for Booth are “not real” and she is totally afraid of getting hurt. While she normally just blurts out what she is thinking, I think her interactions with Booth over the past season have taught her to think and understand certain things that she might not have understood or even cared about a year ago. I think she is certainly more atune to peoples emotions than she was in the past. At least her friend’s feelings (maybe not strangers so much)

Sweets felt a little lost in this episode. Something was off there.

I definitely think it’s Booth Wyatt was talking about. When he was on pain killers he started talking about her “smooth skin and silky hair” and then when he was locked in the ship the whole time he was thinking of Bones, the look on his face when she rescued him…definitely Booth 😛
Loved the episode, thoguht i agree with the sawing of the skull: completely unnecessary.

I think Dr. W was talking about Booth. When Sweets ‘noticed’ the attraction, Brennan was simply putting the handkerchief back in Booth’s pocket. He was surprised and all eye-contacty about the intimacy of that action. I also agree that I don’t think Brennan would ‘struggle’ with anything – if she had an issue, she would find a process to figure it out. While I think that Booth is struggling with attraction, I do think that Brennan is dealing with the love/trust issue. I think she has realized the unique place of Booth in her life (Do you think she has ever trusted anyone as much as she trusts him? I don’t.) and is struggling to fit it into her rational paradigm. Because, honestly – love and trust aren’t terribly rational.

i totally understand the booth point of view and it is obvious he is totally into her but maybe more ina protective best friend that turns into love way???
i personally believe wyatt was talking about brennan although all the signs point to booth in my gut i think hes talkin bout brennan she loves him but she dnt think its any big deal cos she doesnt entirely recognise the emotion or maybe she does but is so afraid of what to do and what could happen
so yeah now we’re all confused 😀
