Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL?

April 29, 2009 by

If you’re looking to find out who won the American Idol season finale tonight- Adam or Kris – please click here: Who Won AMERICAN IDOL Tonight? (May 20, 2009)

PREVIOUS POST

I’m in a little bit of AMERICAN IDOL shock tonight. Not at home but remote blogging tonight’s results so sorry for the hasty updates.

After some blabber (that didn’t include a recap of last night’s performances, unfortunately) Ryan split the remaining five contestants into groups. Danny & Allison on one side of the stage. Kris & Matt on the other, leaving Adam to choose which group he thought was safe. He moved to stand with Allison & Danny. He was wrong…well kind of. Danny & Allison were indeed safe, but Adam wasn’t. WHAT?! Completely stunned.

Yes, tonight’s bottom three are Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Matt Giraud.

I’m banking on Matt going home tonight because if it’s Kris or Adam I might have a little bit of a meltdown.

Jamie Foxx, Natalie Cole and Taylor Hicks are performing tonight. Who cares? Get to the results.

I’ll be back with an update soon. Until then, is anyone else freaking out with me?

UPDATE: Whew…it’s back to the couches for Kris Allen. Guys, if Adam goes home tonight it might be the biggest shocker in IDOL history, no? But if Adam goes home, I think it will be a Kris Allen/Gokey finale. Interesting. Clearly I’m getting a head of myself.

Update: the final results are in and it is Matt Giraud who leaves the competition tonight. An early fave of mine, I’m sad to see him go but it was his time.

Anyone else completely shocked to see both Adam and Kris in the bottom two?  And I’m going to go ahead and say it, but The Gokey’s head just shot through the roof.  Did you see the smug look on his face when they cut to his when it was announced that Adam was in the bottom two?  That boy thinks he has this competition locked up now.  Does he?  Perhaps?  It certainly was the most interesting elimination night for me.

Were you shocked?  Was it expected? Do you think Adam is still the foregone winner of this season?

I’m freaking out because I don’t understand how Danny could be higher than Kris or Adam.

  2. Stephanie on April 29th, 2009 9:41 pm

Yes! I never would have thought Adam would be in the bottom 3…. Maybe all of those drag queen photo’s I’ve seen floating around the internet have had an impact on his fans… haha

It’s could be a Bill O’reilly thing. Can’t spell his name, but didn’t he talk about him on his show and say he shouldn’t be an American Idol because he is gay. His fans must have come out and voted for everybody else. Wonder if there was record voting this week.

It was record voting. Sucks they used the save on Matt and he got sent home the next week 🙁

  6. Bondze on April 29th, 2009 10:06 pm

Adam’s trip to the bottom three guarantees that his fans will NOT take for granted that he’s a sure thing. There will be an Adam voting frenzy the next two weeks!

  7. Tammy Test on April 29th, 2009 10:16 pm

Talk about being in shock! I was freeking out when they put Adam in the bottom three!!!!!! I tell you this if he is not in the top two at the end. I will never watch American idol again .

  8. jello on April 29th, 2009 10:17 pm

    sad.

  9. nonny on April 29th, 2009 10:18 pm

Well when it time it he should had left when he got kicked off the first time. I don’t like that ideal of saveing somebody whn the voters speak they speak.

  10. Carly on April 29th, 2009 10:36 pm

Yeah.. hopefully lambert fans will actually vote next week.. myself included. he’s by far the best left.

  11. Shannon on April 29th, 2009 10:39 pm

YAY!!! matt went home, only two weeks too lote!! they never should have used the save on him…

i FREAKED when they put adam in the bottom 3!! and then the bottom 2….there is no way his votes should have been below kris, nothing against kris, but his performance last night was not up to his usual standard, and Adam’s was amazing!!!

gotta love gokey!!! and im glad they finally got allison out of the bottom 3, but i still can’t believe adam was bottom two…. thankful that matt sucks and shouldn’t have even made it this far cuz otherwise it would have been idol’s worst mistake ever

  12. Shannon on April 29th, 2009 10:52 pm

one more thing…… i loved gokey and adam from the beginning, but this top four is amazing, and i think any combination of these four could make the finale, and id be fine with it…. i have to say though that i think it would be better for kris’ or maybe allison’s career if one of those two won. Adam doesn’t need to win to make an AMAZING album, and i think Danny would do ok without winning too, mainly because im from milwaukee, and its like everyone here is obsessed right now

  13. Meacham on April 29th, 2009 11:00 pm

Sure glad “pretty boy” didn’t win. I wouldn’t spend a dime on his CD. Go Danny GO.

  14. jeff on April 29th, 2009 11:10 pm

i think that the final two will be Adam and Allison they are the only two with an original voice where the rest remind of of the typical Justin Timberlake and no offense to Kris, but he should start singing Christmas jingles… he would be more successful…

  15. Suzanne on April 29th, 2009 11:14 pm

If Adam goes home I will never watch american idol again it is just not possible

OMG!!!!! I NEVER THOUGHT ADAM LAMBERT WOULD EVER BE IN THE BOTTOM 3!!!!!!!!! HE IS WAY TOO GOOD TO BE IN THE BOTTOM 3. IF IT WAS HIM WHO WENT HOME I WOULD NOT WATCH AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. poopywalkietanga on April 30th, 2009 12:50 am

wow !!! poor adam !!!!!! he did amazing !!!!!!!!!!! if he had gone home . . . . i wouldnt be home !! i would drive myself to hollywood or watevr and say he isnt goin home u freaks !!! and they would be all like y ??? and i would say cuz i said so thats y or ima eat ur faces !!! and then they would get scared and simon would call me indulgent and then i would chase him and then they wouldnt make adam go home cuz i would scare them and they would live under my rules haha !!!!! srry. but ya thats the only reason i watch the show is for him!!!

  19. Leslie on April 30th, 2009 1:13 am

I am so glad Adam was in the bottom three. I agree that he was to theatrical last night. It just goes to show he is not all that. He is such a screamer and I believe that Danny should win. Because he is truly a good singer.

  20. doodles on April 30th, 2009 1:23 am

I think Adam Lambert is and could very well be the modern day Elvis even that sweet smirk.

    Final IMHO Adam & Danny

  21. KaylaJane on April 30th, 2009 1:47 am

I just DVRed it and i didn’t get to see it yet, so reading this i was getting upset thinking the worse. There is no way that Adam Lambert would be in the bottom 3 ever, so my heart was ready to break until you said Matt went home! witch i am so happy! But dumb guys did waste their save on him! they should have saved it for just in case something happen to Adam! I will be voting my little heart out next Tuesday that is for sure!

  22. Lisa (aka lmr) on April 30th, 2009 8:39 am

I think this is a phenomenon that happens each season with the frontrunner. Think Daughtry and didn’t Cooksie or Archie land in the bottom towards the end? The callers/texters think everyone else will buoy up the top person. Adam is lucky it happened this week as his fans will doubleback next week. I don’t think (and hope) that it had nothing to do with O’Reilly (the worst person in the world per Keith O 🙂

Matt lasted an adcitional week – he got past the double elim last week folks. He is quite special and I will miss him.

I am frankly more disturbed that my Kris was bottom 3. He is my pick.

  23. strunkette on April 30th, 2009 9:54 am

Gokey!?!?!? Really? That kid is just not good. Yes he had a good week….ONE good week…that does not make an American Idol in my book. Kris and Adam should be the final two hands down. I think if Adam would stop the screeching and holding those notes out for years (yes it’s impressive but we know you can do it) then he’d garner more votes. I’m hoping that all the Matt fans will chose Kris to get their votes and NOT Gokey. As long as they don’t pull the dead wife card(I’m not trying to be insensitive)…if they go back to the hometowns though its all over.

I was sad to see Matt go, too. He was my favorite early on and I continued to vote for him. Now my votes go to Kris!

  24. ulanda on April 30th, 2009 9:56 am

Allison and Adam are soooooo hot. They should be final two. The only CD’s I would consider buying

  25. Amy on April 30th, 2009 10:00 am

I understand why Adam was in the bottom two. I think this was his weakest performance ever. The only things great about it were the staircase walk and the high note and riff and the end. The white suit was all wrong in my opinion. I don’t think Adam should look like he’s hosting the Miss America pageant. He needs a little more edge…some grit. I think he has lost a little of what was appealing about him and that the stylists are trying to fit him into a box. Next week I would like to see something besides a suit and something to be a little more excited about vocally than the long, sustained high note. I really like Adam, but I must not be the only person in America who had this opinion of this week’s performance.

  26. Lisa (aka lmr) on April 30th, 2009 10:25 am

Amy – I agree w/you on the overstyling on Adam this week. Next week is rock so I bet he’ll be back to more original form. Kris is my favorite but I do appreciate Adam’s talent and think he’s a finalist.

  27. Molly on April 30th, 2009 11:32 am

Adam isn’t a favorite of mine (love Kris), but I get it – the guy is clearly talented, an absolute professional, and I was definitely shocked to see him at the bottom. I’m still not sure who’s voting for Gokey week after week.

  28. Mary Twyning on April 30th, 2009 12:31 pm

Do you think that votes by the public count and that your vote should mean something? If so why don’t others respect the majority vote, instead of threatening to quit watching the show, who wins is who wins popular votes win out, my best to the 4 that are left, even those who need an attitude adjustments. Great show great entertainment.

  29. Kathleen on April 30th, 2009 12:43 pm

I’m sure to be in the minority here, but maybe there is a large contigent of voters who are tired of the over the top, too dramatic Adam Lambert. I like him so much better when he tones it down and just sings. The strutting and screaming makes me want to turn off the TV. Which is what he did the other night. I found Danny refreshing and on it for the first time in weeks and I guess other people did too. I don’t think Idol messed with the rankings just for drama – I do really believe that Adam came in 4th last night. Yes, he is super talented and he doesn’t really need to win anymore – he’s got a huge career ahead of him, but sometimes the theatrics are hard to deal with week in and week out.

  30. Christen on April 30th, 2009 2:25 pm

I actually watched Tuesday nights show again this morning because my friend hadn’t seen it and wanted to watch before I erased it off my DVR. I have to say that i was in complete awe last night watching the elimination show thinking Kris and Adam, HOW could this be??? But setting my contestant bias aside I have to say that except for possibly switching out Kris for Allison I think everyone ended up where they should have last night after my rewatch. The 4 left are all great and it really is just going to come down to how their performances go. Watching back it wasn’t Adams best week. Kris went first with amazing performances after him to make his slightly forgettable and Danny & Allison were awesome.

  31. Shilo on April 30th, 2009 3:03 pm

Did Ryan really ever say that Adam was in the “bottom three:? Or did he just pull him over to that side of the stage?

I can’t remember, but I can’t imagine his fan base drying up in one week, he was so far ahead that is just a bit hard to believe.

I don’t follow this much, is the voting based on just one performance, or do voters take into account all the past performances?

  32. Alison on April 30th, 2009 3:54 pm

I actually wanted to see what would happen if Adam went home. I’m not his biggest fan but I know he’s going to win, but if somehow he got sent home, anyone could win and that would make the competition really interesting. I’m rooting for Kris!

  33. margie on April 30th, 2009 4:58 pm

It is WRONG that Adam was in the bottome 3! I didn’t vote, wasn’t home, will be sure to vote next week! BTW, O’Reilly did not disparage Adam. I forget what he said, but I saw him watching and he did say he was talented and whatever he said was very inocuous.

  34. taylor on April 30th, 2009 6:48 pm

    Danny is amazing.
how can ya’ll say he sucks?
he’s done good every week from the
    beginning.
not to mention HE LOST HIS WIFE!
for him to even be able to go on this show
with out have a breakdown, is AMAZING!
and he definately deserves to stay.
unlike adam, who sounds like a girl and
already has a high paying job (hello?! WICKED!)
im sure without american idol, he could make it
big…so its not like he needs this like danny and kris do.
    two AVERAGE EVERYDAY people.

  35. Alyssa on April 30th, 2009 7:15 pm

I honestly cannot stand seeing Adam in this competition any longer. He annoys me to pieces. I really think he just takes things to over the top and he acts like he is already the winner. I was really hoping that he would have been the one sent home last night but unfortunately he wasn’t. If it weren’t for the fans voting for him because he’s cute and young I think he would have been long gone. I think the bottom two for the finale should be either Allison and Danny or Danny and Chris. I really do not enjoy watching Idol when Adam sings. Danny deffinately deserves to win because hes so talented. No matter if Adam loses or wins he’s going to remain famous so they should just get him off the show. Well thats my opinon 🙂

  36. Nayant on May 1st, 2009 8:12 am

Kris and Adam all the way. They both have a performance quality that makes it impossible to turn away when they have the stage. Both sing beautifully: Kris has edge with timbre and Adam with power. Both take huge risks providing us with new and unusual song arrangements. Both are good looking enough to grace the pages of any teen rag and be a true POP IDOL.

Danny and his karaoke ways need to GO! Every time he takes the mike, i sounds like a pale imitation of the original artist. Yes, he does karaoke better than Lil;s but, where is the artistry? He also seem a little too smug. I wonder (it may be mean of me to say) but would he still be around, if the fans all didn’t know the sad story of his wife.

Allison is a good singer, but there is something about her phrasing that always irritates me. It may be that she always changes the vowels sounds: o’s to long a’s and screwing around with standard dipthongs; just plain over singing in the worst way. Yeah Christina Aguilera, etc does it, but she has a beautiful timbre to her voice and she pretty much stays true to how the words are pronounced.

Matt, I am still confused on why the judges used a save on him. He never connected with me and just seem to gravel voice his way through too many songs.

why in the hell did that chis allen the cockroach go on he sux big time
